AIBU to be annoyed with Asda Home Delivery

Did a grocery shop online on Sunday for delivery this evening as my car was at the garage and DH is out at his Triathlon Club. Anyway, it's arrived and out of the 10 fresh food items ordered, one is split so can't be used and 6 are dated to be used by 1 March, i.e. tomorrow. How can they expect it to be OK that food only has 1 days grace (less considering the delivery was about 9pm tonight). I know the risk is you don't get a huge amount of leeway with the dates but seriously, one day ???

I think a lot of it has to do with where you live. In portsmouth our tesco deliveries were, well crap(they were the ones who subbed haggis with shortbread). I used Asda a lot. here though, good grief I won't go neat Asda with a bargepole it is shocking - close to use by date food, bruised and bashed food etc.

However I fell out with tesco yesterday when they hadn't subsititued washing powder "no suitable subsittue availiable"
What, no washing powder anyhwere in the whole store? I don't think so.

TaperJeanGirl · 01/03/2011 10:52

I hate Asda, we had a delivery from them last night, we never usually use them but they were the only place we could get a delivery slot for the time needed, anyway, no nappies and no sub? no soap powder and no sub? no baked beans and no sub? manky bananas, wrong cereal sent, 2 different types of soya milk, and some stuff left off altogether, plus they were 40 mins late, we usually use sainsburys and never ever have a problem.

Reading this makes me love Waitrose home delivery even more. Unerringly polite, punctual delivery chaps, wait for you to unpack and check any substitutions, no problem on refunds should you not want anything and IF they've had to put in something near its use-by date they GIVE it to you!! Plus they do price-match on all sorts of things. There are still some things I prefer to nip into somewhere for those as and when required (things like loo paper, nappies, washing powder, shampoo etc...). And their site is easy to use. Oh yes, I bloody love Waitrose Online.

Ive just had my asda delivered 40min late. My shopping was mixed up in the boxes with someone elses so i had to sort it out. He then gave me a case of Strongbow which i hadnt ordered. I got some easter eggs which were on offer and been subbed with ones for same price but smaller? I wanted 2 oatilicious bread, there was non and havent even gave me a white kingsmill as a sub so ive got no bread. There were no food bags available and no kids toothpaste. I dont believe that for one minute, Tesco would have subbed them for an alternative at double the price. Now i am going to have to go out anyways and get food bags and bread for the kids packed lunches. What a joke, im sticking with Tesco Angry

MrsTumbles · 01/03/2011 17:35

To be fair, going to Asda itself is just as bad. I picked up some FRESHLY BAKED teacakes yesterday (28th) only to find out this morning that they had to be eaten by the 27th Angry

fifi25 · 01/03/2011 17:45

I've had my fair share of mouldy stuff delivered by them in the past but after what they did today I'll NEVER use them again:

THEY TOOK A COMPLETELY RANDOM £150.27p (UNRELATED TO ANY ORDER) OUT OF MY BANK ACCOUNT!!

I haven't had a chance to speak to them yet (too exhausted to summon the necessary anger!), but luckily the money was only 'pending' so my bank was able to cancel it and refund it back into my account. Good job I noticed otherwise they would have got away with it!

balia · 01/03/2011 20:02

Hate Asda - used them perhaps 4 times - always had missing items, and I too was a victim to the asda wide nappy shortage, and their packing is awful - twice I had split and spilt stuff all over my shopping. They stroppily refunded the cost of the items that had split, but I still had to wash bagfuls of shopping! They also replace/sub down (instead of up for the same price, like Tesco) so I once got two of their cheapest range 'joints' of pork, which were gross, instead of an ordinary, larger joint.

fifi25 · 01/03/2011 21:16

they were on watchdog for taking random money out of accounts. They were also debiting accounts for too much money. They said it had been sorted, obviously not, im going to check my on line bank since reading this. Im skint so there better had be no mony missing.

My friend cant use Tesco as they dont accept her card either, strange as everywhere else does.

I second this.

They are fabulous. My delivery drivers offer to take my bags to the kitchen too, can't fault them or Waitrose delivery.

fifi25 · 01/03/2011 22:40

zukiecat - email them from home deliveries site, they ring you back straight away, i would ask them why they dont take it, i cant remember what card friend said she has but she transfers the money to daughters account to pay on her card and deliver to mams address as you can have different adresses registered.

RachelHRD · 01/03/2011 22:51

Ocado are good too - as they are warehouse based you rarely get substitutions and they guarantee minimum life dates and have the average in brackets after each item - which is always longer.

Drivers are always polite and helpful and will carry bags into the kitchen for you. They call if they are going to be early or late - invariably early. You can report refund requests online and I have never had one questioned.

Get the occasional damaged item but always refunded without question.

Used to use Sainsburys who I liked but I got fed up with the whole substitution and short life nightmare!

Ormirian · 01/03/2011 22:53

Never had a problem with ours. Drivers really friendly and helpful. Goods as expected. If something is too shortdated they usually tell you on the delivery note so you can give it back or ring later and tell them and they will pay the money back. On one occasion a joint of brisket worth about £7 was replaced with sirloin worth more like £19! They do sometimes run out of things that make me a bit Hmm but not often

I gave up on Tesco after one too many cock-ups and no apology. And Sainsbury were ok but I started with Asda as a cost-cutting measure a few years back and was pleasantly surprised.

Theres another thread on here about Tesco home deliveries selling rancid meat, it must just depend what area your in as to which supermarket gives a better service. Ive only got Tesco or Asda who deliver to me Sad

GotArt · 01/03/2011 23:46

OK.. you are dealing with fucking Wal-Mart... what do you honestly expect.

JenniPenni · 01/03/2011 23:59

Nothing beats Ocado for me... I have used a variety of home delivery grocery shops.

Figgyrolls · 02/03/2011 11:28

I am so checking my account now, used asda once and locally it is shite so won't be using it again but I am damned if those dodgy lot will be taking my money again!
