YANBU - Surely the fact they are getting a cake is enough? And from my experience the cakes from Iceland can be quite tasty!

Is it iced? You could have fun decorating it yourselves to ease the guilt if you need to.

issey6cats · 28/02/2011 14:48

Most children can't appreciate the subtleties of a fine sponge anyway and are satisfied with tasteless pap from iceland.

I'd buy myself a fabulous cupcake though (to be eaten when children aren't around so no sharing necessary), their birthday is an anniversary for you too.

MrsKwazii · 28/02/2011 14:51

Do they like cake? It mostly ends up going off and no-one ever really likes it that much. Or is it the 'Mums going to Iceland' inference, like you're Coleen Nolan or somefink? Grin

Are you Coleen Nolan? Shock

Depends on your children's taste buds, I suppose

LisMcA · 28/02/2011 14:52

If it's their 18th get them booze instead! (I do not suggest binge drinking)

As long as it is a cake, you stick some candles in it for the all important photo, I don't see a problem!

Tortington · 28/02/2011 14:56

yes yes taking them to the pub on friday all expenses paid

ok then, i will leave my guilt ty all so much

i did buy candle numbers, balloons banners etc

Are you going to have a cocktail? With a straw brolly in it? Grin

Carvel ice cream cake is the only way to go whatever the occasion, weddings, funerals, birthdays.

silverten · 28/02/2011 15:32

Define 'proper birthday cake'.

I need to know- I fear the Thought Police might come and get me if I get it wrong.

HenriettaFarthingay · 28/02/2011 15:38

I've got four children, and made every birthday cake they ever had. They're now grown up and have five children between them. I'm now expected to make the grandkids' cakes. On the plus side, my youngest does the decorating of them now, much better than I ever did, while I just do the baking.

Go to Tesco, buy the twins their cake, and get a nice bottle of wine for yourself.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 28/02/2011 15:42

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I love the iceland £1 chocolate gataeu.

I'm sure the dcs would too if they ever got near one Blush

Lovecat · 28/02/2011 15:44

Totally go for the Iceland cake (I'm assuming you mean a Gateaux type thing if it's Iceland?) if that's what they'll like. And I say that as a cake-maker myself - it's just too much hassle at this short notice!

Newgolddream · 28/02/2011 15:44

Whats a "proper birthday cake" - as opposed to a fake one I suppose Grin

zukiecat - I was going to get the photo cake from Asda but I wasnt sure if they do them anymore so I found a company online that prints photos onto edible paper, and Im making my own sponge cake for my DS who turns 18 in 2 weeks. For maximum embarassment I have chosen a baby picture of his lol.

Lovecat · 28/02/2011 15:45

x-post - yeah, go for the gateaux!

Tortington · 28/02/2011 15:46

it was £3 either i was ripped or its super large
