To be unable to make a fecking cake in this stupid rubber cupcake mould thing?

SeeJaneKick · 25/02/2011 21:13

well am I? I got one of those oversized cupcake cake mould things...they feel like rubber but they're not....well the box said to use 2 pckets of cake mix per section...there are 2 sections...the top and the bottom.

I hate packet cake mix so made my own mix using 2 eggs...when cooked the cake sections were only half filled....so today tried with 2 packets of gross cake mix just to see...nah...crap again...only half of each side of the mould is full.

What am I meant to DO! What? What?

I know this belongs in cooking but whatever. I am bitter about my inability to make a massive fecking cupcake.

I want one. I want to decorate it.

Angry

question should be "AIBU to ask you all to advise me re this massive shitty cupcake mould"

Lakeland's version says it takes a 6 egg mix

llareggub · 26/02/2011 00:11

I usually weigh the eggs and then use the same weight butter, sugar and flour. It is an easy way to fill bigger moulds.

Disclaimer: I've only done this for normal size FAIRY cakes and not giant cupcakes.

Cakeybaker · 26/02/2011 00:29

I make lots of giant cupcakes, and I'm sorry to tell you the silicone moulds are a bit rubbish :( They tend to stretch and don't cook evenly. You can get a metal one and they're really good, they cook evenly on both sides and the cake shape is always good. You get a recipe with it, but I use a 5-egg mix (10oz each flour, sugar and butter). Don't make a chocolate one. Just don't. (lol) Have fun.

I have never done a "boak" face ..... I secretly envy people who do cakes. Envy

I hate baking 'cos I have no patience.

And no "sweet tooth" - I love savoury stuff ..... mmmm.

I've got a silicon baking tray that supposedly makes heart shaped muffins. Looks good when cooking but so far can't get the muffin' muffins out in one piece. I've tried greasing/not greasing, out when warm and out when cold. Always end up with bits of sponge all over the place and bottom section of muffin still in the tray.

PS How the heck do you wash them cos feel very greasy when put through dishwasher.

SeeJaneKick · 26/02/2011 01:34

Ah. Well you wouldn't envy myefforts Salmon! I chucked tonight's in the bin hence this post!

I use a it of bio laundry powder rcycledteen, well rinsed after.

what about using what you already made (if its still around) but fill the space between.them with something, like a Victoria spongy giant cupcake thing?

Imnotaslimjim · 26/02/2011 08:47

Hope it works for you Jane.

Cakeybaker I've got a choc recipe too if you'd like it that works everytime for me. Its a bit long winded but is lush and well worth it!

Recycledteen, I don't have a dishwasher but I've found very hot water and lots of bubbles gets it clean. And it feeling greasy is fine, it helps it not stick next time

recycledteen · 26/02/2011 19:22

Thanks for the tips, SeeJane and Imnot. :) :)

TotorosOcarina · 26/02/2011 19:26

Not paying either price though Grin

worriermum · 26/02/2011 21:34

Sorry, what ARE you all on about? WTF is a giant cupcake mould? Is it different from a normal deep cake tin intended to make a single cake with nothing sandwiched in teh middle?

And please, are all the quantities given (eg 2 eggs for 21 cm's) intended for sandwich cakes, or for one tin with release-able sides?

Just marking my place as I've bought one of these moulds to make dd1 a birthday cake! Eagerly awaiting report back from SeeJaneKick Smile

blueshoes · 26/02/2011 22:17

Silicon moulds suck. They don't hold the shape well and are a devil to wash.

SeeJaneKick · 26/02/2011 22:22

Well blueshoes I have silicon moulds in loaf shapes and in round shapes and they've been fine...used a few times and they've not lost shape. Prhaps it's t do with storage?

I wash mine by hand with a bit of biological clothng detergent...
I just put the 2nd half of the cake in and the 1st bit which had been in 15 mins on it's own looks to be slowly rising.

kate...this is a prctice run for DDs 3rdBirthday next week....if it fails then I'm making a Hello Kitty one a it's just a round cake with a bit of trimming and a LOT of piped white icing...the ones I have seen online look great though.

MikeStand · 26/02/2011 22:22

I hate silicon moulds. It always seems to stick and it could just be in my head but the cakes always have a whiff of condom about them. A faint background rubbery note.

SeeJaneKick · 26/02/2011 22:33

It's in your head Mike! I've never smelt it anyway and I only ever use silicon.
