I think it's conditioning.

Grin Seriously.

Film + popcorn + bucket of coke = Cinema

I think people think that it has to be done that way. Grin When you go to the cinema you HAVE to snack all the way through the film, it's part of the cinema experience.

baaaaaaaaaaaaa...

The Gallery at the Odeon is rather good - leather seats, free refreshments including tea/coffee etc and snacks. But it is £17 a ticket Shock

nancydrewfoundaclue · 25/02/2011 16:09

Went to cinema last noght and they had a "couples deal": 2x soft drinks and a medium pop corn £9.99 Shock

I had a meal and a drink in the pub before I arrived for less than that.

Did spend £5 on pick and mix though Blush

I don't visit Mumsnet often these days but today I've learnt a lot. Grin

Showcase in Cabot Cicrus lets you swan in with a Cosmopolitan in hand, and they do waiter service food and drinks, served to you whilst sat in lazyboy seats.

It's great.

I always buy a coke and sweets when go to pleb cinemas. It doesn't cost that much, I can't be arsed with smuggling in sweets shoved up me jumper.

cryhavoc · 25/02/2011 16:31

When I go I have to have a bucket of pick and mix. I love it, and it is a rare, rare treat.

However, when the child learns that there is such a thing as a cinema, I will be operating a strict smuggling fruit and water policy.

(unless the OP is actually manning a BBQ at the back whilst sipping a g&t. In that case I like my steaks rare.)

NettoSuperstar · 25/02/2011 16:37

I go to the cinema in Clydebank.
I don't think there is such thing as a martini in the town at all, and the Maccas never have fruit bags.
DD just has to slum it with friesGrin

Rebeccaruby · 25/02/2011 16:38

I can't believe there are cinemas where they search your bags?! Actually, I have just googled this, and I believe most searches happen with just released blockbusters like James Bond films, and they are searching for camcorders. I've never seen this happen. Btw, got distracted by a Canadian story where a family were searched for this reason, and things were taken out of bags. They had a teenage daughter, and she was treated to her contraceptive pills being waved around in front of the unsuspecting parents Blush.

When we go to rugby at Twickenham there is always a bag search, but that is for anti-terrorist reasons. Not sure what the legal position would be, presumably it would be the same for cinemas.

Of course you take your DCs to the cheapest place that does pick and mix, let them choose, and take it out of your bag once the lights go down. Sweets are part of the treat of the cinema! Would never pay for sweets there as they are extortionate!

ifancyashandy · 25/02/2011 16:41

Sweetie, follow my example - I watch movies at BAFTA.

Well, if it's good enough for Speilberg....

And we always watch the credits through to the end!

You have to be invited Grin.

C0FFEE · 25/02/2011 16:57

No Punkatheart, they can not stop you taking your own food into the cinema but they can stop you fro going in.

Acanthus · 25/02/2011 16:59

They're not searching my bloody bag

mummery · 25/02/2011 17:32

When I go with DS I take in a picnic from M&S.

When I go on my own I get myself one of those 6,000 calorie Ben & Jerry's ice creams that cost five quid each.

We both love the cinema and want to maximise the fun (we eat v. quietly btw no noisy items like crisps tut tut).

In my teens used to sneak in a bottle of red with my pal Wine (except in a plastic cup)
