With water there more expensive than petrol and popcorn £1 per kernel?

And #judgey it's often the families who can I'll afford it right at the front of the q.

I think popcorn's OK but don't like sitting next to smelly food, like hotdogs or nachos.

And no rustling either.

NettoSuperstar · 25/02/2011 15:38

See, this is why I watched Tangled at home.
I had a Latte, made by my own fair hand, and some Marmalade cake, again, made by me.
It cost the price of the ingredients.

The film was shite, the food and drink, were not.

Diablo82 · 25/02/2011 15:38

What is your issue with people buying food at the cinema - is it the cost or the fact that they are eating during the film?

YouGoGlennCoco · 25/02/2011 15:40

Both. I like to so read my disapproval

NettoSuperstar · 25/02/2011 15:40

Oh YouGo, I am common, I take pride in itGrin

Still though, that popcorn is stale, the drinks are cheapo postmix and even if I were a millionaire, I'd not pay for them.
I'd just take my own snacks in a much more expensive bag. Grin

YouGoGlennCoco · 25/02/2011 15:42

Spread. Not so read

Would love to be able to afford the cinema snacks but would have to remortgage!! Took dcs to see tangled and was 20 quid for fecking tickets!!. We take popcorn, apple juice and a bag of sweets to share in with us.
Where are these cinemas that ask to check your bags?!! Simply refuse-they have no right!!.

gillybean2 · 25/02/2011 15:47

Our local cinema must be a bargain then. £1 for a bag of popcorn and 60p for any drink (be it a can of coke or a carton of juice). Only £3 a seat too.

YouGoGlennCoco · 25/02/2011 15:48

Is it in The North?

lololizzy · 25/02/2011 15:49

i always used to buy from cinema as was far too busy hopeless to ever be organised to bring anything in...if i know in advance, i'll now grab some pic n mix from Wilcos. As for ice cream..that's a bit harder to sneak in!
When i saw The King's Speech recently , had an hr's queue then the film was on 45 mins late (manager actually came out to front of screen and apologised!) so Ben & Jerry smuggling would've been one big sloppy mess..
Having said that, i used to do secret shops at this same cinema, get FREE Haagen Daaz AND get paid for eating it! Smile that was always my best secret shop.

lololizzy · 25/02/2011 15:50

wow gillybean2 that's amazing! My local is £9.50 and it's not like west end or anything! Just a reg complex. Would go weekly maybe nightly at your prices!

Swedes1 · 25/02/2011 15:51

The Luton cinema searches people's bags. I can never decide if this is shocking or hilarious. Luckily I have a Barbour with a poacher's pocket.

C0FFEE · 25/02/2011 15:52

I always buy my sweets at the nearby Asda but if we go after school we get a hot dog, Cola and popcorn for less then £5 each!

Will never buy an ice cream at the movies, far to expensive.

Pagwatch · 25/02/2011 15:53

Well yes net to. All good ( except the watching tangled at home bit as it has not yet been released), I would agree.

But the dcs will not. And dear old ds2 knows the release date and details of every film he wants to see. He helpfully puts them on the calendar for me..

But tangled was a relative joy. I had to sit through TMNT with him. We were the only people there! and I had bought shit seats so that we would be in a quiet area (asd related) and he couldn't cope with moving to more comfy seats !

I tried to work out how many minstrels I would need to eat to kill myself.

Grin
ShatnersBassoon · 25/02/2011 15:54

A poacher's pocket would be handy, but you'd stick out like a sore thumb in a Barbour in these parts. We have to make do with the Chatham pocket (I wouldn't recommend a clandestine Magnum if using this method of smuggling, by the way).

BigChiefOrganiser · 25/02/2011 15:54

On girls nights, a friend has brought us Martinis in water bottles. She also turned up pregnant, imagine our suprise when she wasn't at the end of the film (popcorn shoved in coat). It's CA$13/ticket here and we'd spend more on the food. I now make up popcorn and take it in my oversized bag, along with a drink and sweets (DS1 can't watch a movie without the popcorn). DH however looks at me like this Hmm when I suggest he does the same. Does he not REALISE the savings to be had?!

DelicateFluffyBunny · 25/02/2011 15:55

I have a CEA card so my DH gets in free with me - so can afford the popcorn etc. Grin

YouGoGlennCoco · 25/02/2011 15:56

Roar at poachers pocket. I'd like to know their legal right to friskmyou for ferrets.

OP posts:
gillybean2 · 25/02/2011 15:56

No I'm not in 'The North'. It is however a small independant cinema, but does have 2 screens, but neither is 3D.

The films don't always come as quickly as to big cinemas. This week we have Tangled, Yogi Bear and Gulliver's Travels, but not Gnome & Juliet for instance. But it will probably come in a couple of weeks. (Plenty of other films showing this week too but as I only go with ds I have too ignore anying not U rated).

redrollers · 25/02/2011 15:56

who are you calling common?!!

YouGoGlennCoco · 25/02/2011 15:56

I hide mine in my pouch of Douglas. Onky a brave man would go there.

OP posts:
Punkatheart · 25/02/2011 16:03

Can a cinema stop you taking in your own food? Legally, I can't see how they can....

Swedes1 · 25/02/2011 16:04

Shatner - LOL at Chatham Pocket.

coraltoes · 25/02/2011 16:04

The Everyman in Hampstead serves wine, nibbles and you watch films from a sofa with an inbuilt wine cooler. now THAT is a good cinema!

Diablo82 · 25/02/2011 16:05

Might be a tag awkward removing said snacks from your pouch of douglas ..... as least without laparoscopy.
