I am sat at my desk which is in the front window of my house. Have been sat here doing work for over an hour, in silence. Left my room to get a drink fifteen minutes ago, and there is a bloody 'sorry you were out' card on the doormat!!
The post person did not knock on the door! I would have heard! Apparently i can travel twenty miles to pick it up (dont drive) or pay for the pleasure of having it delivered to my local post office! (dont trust them redelivering if they dont know how to knock!)
sigh
Its probably not that huge a deal, but bloody inconvenient!

You should be able to have it redelivered I use the redelivery all the time.
here

2littlegreenmonkeys · 24/02/2011 12:50

Oh and YANBU. On Saturday DH & I took the DD's out and left a note on our door for any parcels to be taken to my neighbor, who was in all day. We came home to a 'sorry you were out card' I was not happy but had the parcels (2 of them) redelivered they came on Tuesday.

LadyOfTheManor · 24/02/2011 12:50

Yeah they don't knock because they are a bunch of lazy jobsworths. I hate the PO and all its workers.

FutureNannyOgg · 24/02/2011 12:58

Our local posties do that, luckily I have recently had a decent one, but previously, both myself and a work colleague have "caught" the postman putting the card through, opened the door and asked for the parcel, only to be told the parcel is at the sorting office because they didn't bother to bring it out with them. My colleague lives 50 yards from the sorting office Hmm

xstitch · 24/02/2011 13:04

e-mail them and complain. However don't hold your breath for a reply. I complained about something on 11/2 and I am impatiently waiting for a response.

BreconBeBuggered · 24/02/2011 13:07

I've actually watched the card coming through the letterbox and sent DS1 out after the postman only to have him swear he delivered it yesterday. Not sure whether that makes me angrier than having packages left outside the door without so much as a knock, even when I'm in.

bupcakesandcunting · 24/02/2011 13:07

Mine does the opposite, he bangs my door so hard I stand by my bed waiting for the Gestapo to come in asking for my papers.

bupcakesandcunting · 24/02/2011 13:08

Oh and they ALL LIE.

Royal Mail are on my "to die" list...

Onlyaphase · 24/02/2011 13:12

They aren't all bad you know!

Since I moved to my little village 3 years ago, every parcel has been delivered by one of our lovely postmen. They open the door and pop the parcels on the stairs, give the dogs a biscuit and go on their way around the village. No complaints from me or the dogs.

I don't actually know where the sorting office is - in 3 years I've probably received 3 parcels a week on average, never had to go and pick up even one of them.

pinkstinks · 24/02/2011 13:15

FutureNannyOgg ( love the name btw!)Cant believe they didnt even bring the parcel out with them! How lazy!
xstitch The website redirected me to a survey and I was very blunt! I will be complaining in person when I pick it up (earliest is saturday ffs)

I think its just the lying that is the worst, he did not bloody knock!!! And i have to pay £1.50 to get it delivered to the post office up the road as theres no way I can get to the depot!

bupcakesandcunting · 24/02/2011 13:17

OnlyAPhase do you live in The Archers? Grin

TerrorFirmer · 24/02/2011 13:19

mine don't bother to bring it out with them OR leave a red note. I recently reported a parcel as unreceived to a seller on ebay, only for her to report that it had been returned to her as 'not called for'. I had never had the note!

luckily she was as narked off with RM as me and sent me a photo of the package so I can go and cause a stink.

2littlegreenmonkeys · 24/02/2011 13:23

Why not arrange to have it redelivered to your house it is free. I posted a link for the RM redelivery page at the top of the thread.

pinkstinks · 24/02/2011 13:24

onlyaphase Im jealous of you! I know there are some lovely postpeople out there, its just a lot of my recent experiences with parcels have been annoying.
At least you can arrange for local collection now i suppose, and the opening hours of the depot are slightly better these days, they used to be 7am til 1pm or something, excellent for all us full timers Confused

Our local postie is a nice guy and never pulls stunts like that. However I've had a delivery guy put a card in while I was actually next to the door waiting for my parcel. I wrenched the door open and called out but he was already getting in his car and pretended not to hear and drove off Angry. He seemed in a huge hurry, so I think he was just dropping off 'while you were out' cards and running off.

pinkstinks · 24/02/2011 13:26

2littlegreenmonkeys Thankyou for your link, but as I said in OP, I know for a fact that they didnt knock today, I dont trust them to redeliver, also you have to wait 48 hours, so I spose I am paying to guarantee I get it at the P.O :)

AllOverIt · 24/02/2011 13:29

I also hate RM. We don't have post for days on end, then will get a huge pile on a Sunday afternoon. I kid you not. The postie obviously leaves it for ages and then goes round in his car on a Sunday afternoon. I tested our post by posting something first class and it took 5 days to arrive.

No wonder it's going under.

My lovely FIL was a postie for years, and so I don't hate posties (apart from mine), just the company and the LIES!

2littlegreenmonkeys · 24/02/2011 13:29

Yes I see what you mean. It is annoying when they do that, our postie is usually really good as well, he must have been having an off day on Saturday lol.

Guacamole · 24/02/2011 13:35

My post lady is lovely, she looks through the glass now to check for DS as on a previous occasion he was sat right against the door when she put the post through and it landed on DS giving him a bit of a surprise. She knocks lightly in case he is still asleep. And always leaves parcels with our neighbours if we are not in.

Pixieonthemoor · 24/02/2011 14:03

This happened to me the other day so I took myself off to the PO to pick up the parcel I had apparently been 'out' for and......they have lost it!!! ARRRGH!! Useless shower....

thumbwitch · 24/02/2011 14:06

YANBU - this happens so often it's a bloody joke. Absolutely infuriating when it does. My Dad goes ballistic - phones and complains every time but it makes no odds (in fact, probably makes it worse!)

Outrageous that they walk all the way up to the door and then CBA to knock/ring!

Toygirl · 24/02/2011 14:07

I hate Royal Mail and always groan when I see that my Amazon order is getting delivered by them. Always late and our postman needs early retirement. He is always posting other people's letters through my door and I have a few people turn up with my post that he has wrongly delivered.

shewasashowgirl · 24/02/2011 14:36

YASNBU

Firstly, I get at least one letter wrongly delivered to me every week. These include other peoples bank statements etc. Obviously I am honest and re post or hand deliver when possible. It makes me wonder how many of my personal letters have gone missing in someone elses junk mail bag though.

Secondly, I have spent the last month trying to get a registered letter re delivered and have waited in for 2 days on promised re delivery days so far. I called customer complaints again yesterday only to be told that it was waiting at the post office collection depot. They have assured me I will get a call to say when it has been delivered back to the sorting office who will rearrange delivery.

I am not holding my breath!!

vj32 · 24/02/2011 15:05

We have really good Royal Mail people where I am - so I guess it varies by area. They are so much better than the evil courier companies. (With the exception of one who delivers clothes for Debenhams/Arcadia who is lovely)

And do not ever order anything valuable that will be delivered by the Home Delivery Network - they just left a parcel worth about £300 where anyone could have taken it.

I went nuts at a courier the other day as having driven 10 miles to collect my parcel, taking the card, driving license and utility bill to prove it was me, he then wanted my car registration number. HOW MUCH ID DO THEY NEED?

xstitch · 24/02/2011 20:56

I can't actually remember how I found the e-mail address but it was hard work. Whatever you do don't try and complain by phone. You end up trying to press selections and can't really find one that actually matches your complaint. I have decided they have until the 11th March to reply to me and I will write to them. I predict I will be writing. I have complained in the past and they took 4 months to reply Angry
