They keep "estimating" my bills to the extent where the manager of customer services rang me and said, cancel your direct debit as we're clearly a bunch of monkeys. I did. That was in Aug 2010, I received a bill in January for £450 I paid that, then received a bill for £100 in Feb (the first week) I rang to query it and the guy asked me for my meter readings (AGAIN) I gave them and he said "Oh it's wrong, you only owe £20". So I paid that. I got a bill today for £70 so I rang up to query it. THere has never been an agent knock on my door to retrieve the meter readings, I just give them over the phone. THis stupid woman today said;

"Well someone came in August, twice in fact and gave us the readings"

Me: "Sorry they couldn't have I have been in".

Her: "Perhaps you've forgotten, August was such a long time ago".

Me: "No, no I'm 24 I can remember 7 months ago perfectly well and no one came, least of all twice in the space of a week".

Her: "are you calling me a liar?"

Me: "yes".

Her: "Well you're wrong, our system is never wrong".

Me: "Your system was wrong 2 weeks ago when I tried to pay more than was owed, can I speak to your supervisor?"

Her: "Whatever..." BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

Mad is not the word.

Eon are completely incompetent. Despite numerous phone calls etc, they are still hassling us (threatening bailiffs now!!)for the outstanding electricity bill of the previous owner of our property.

We moved in five years ago!!!!!

Vallhala · 25/02/2011 18:42

Odd you should be told by Eon that you have had your meter read when you know that not to be true. They said the same to a friend who owns a rescue containing 60 or more dogs. They'd been accepting his readings for years and he'd been paying bills based on what Eon charged him as a result.

Then all of a sudden he got a bill for thousands. Shock

He's not a daft man and knows how to read a bloody meter so he called them to ask WTF was going on. Eon told him that his meter had been read several times by their staff over the past few quarters. They insisted this was so and said that the meter must have been read in his absence from the property.

apart from the fact that there is ALWAYS someone on the property, 24/7 and has been for YEARS, he still wants to know how the feck the meter reader managed to get in, read a meter and get out without being eaten noticed by 60 to 80 dogs! :o

Conclusion - Eon are liars and twats.

He's lucky - as a rescue he got the matter reported in the local press and shamed Eon into investigating the situation. I hope that the bad press here gets you the same result.

LadyOfTheManor · 25/02/2011 18:48

Vallhalla- I can't believe that! How very dare they! I just hated the presumption by a jumped up call centre body telling me men had been in my house with or without my knowledge.

I think I may just leave them, but I'm not sure who to go to next, Swalec are also a waste of space.

Eon grossly overcharged my gas use for the whole of 2010 as they calculated my gas consumption on cubic feet when my meter is metric (result is of being charged x3 over what I used!!!!). When I called them they told me they would investigate.... They did not and just ended up telling me that I was a heavy user (£3k for a 3 bed terraced house....). I had to figure out the problem myself. Gently explain it to them and only then did they do smtg about it. They were not rude though only shockingly useless. The bill came 2 days before Christmas too... That made it extra special.

SardineQueen · 25/02/2011 19:58

Jojo I'm not sure that cubic feet to cubic metres is 3x, surely it would be more like 27x? Are you sure they've got it right this time?

Catnao · 25/02/2011 20:14

Changed from Eon which is now a swear word in our house to Scottish and Southern electric - very happy with them and excellent customer service. Would recommend.

JojoLapin · 25/02/2011 20:21

It is now correct. I really find their postings on this forum absolutely pathetic. They should focus a bit more on better handling the complaints they get through traditional routes as they certainly are not doing a good job with them.

SardineQueen · 25/02/2011 20:51

I'm with Ovo on their green tariff if anyone is interested, customer service excellent so far, not sure how they compete on price at the mo.

LadyOfTheManor · 25/02/2011 21:37

EDF is apparently cheaper-they've just quoted me online, anyone had any experience with them?

Acanthus · 26/02/2011 15:59

Yes we like ocadoAnnie

PaperView · 26/02/2011 17:11

There's an Ocado Annie?!

She wouldn't get this response because JL/Waitrose/Ocado actually give a shit about their customers.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 26/02/2011 17:19

I just switched from them when they put my DD up by £40 a month. When I checked my account I was over £150 in credit. This was end of January and their reasoning was that my account needed to have a zero balance in March (i.e. not in debt).

She said I was the one being illogical when I pointed out that if they wanted £120 in January, £120 in February and I was already £150 ish overpaid then I would have had to spend nearly £200 a month in gas and electric when our usage clearly showed we were spending around £65 a month.

I kept telling her I wanted to change and she just kept repeating this over and over.

I hung up and swapped online!

LadyOfTheManor · 26/02/2011 17:38

Peppa who did you switch to? I'm trying to switch online...! If they even contemplate the thought of charging me a cancellation fee I will personally go to their offices and give them a piece of my mind.

PersonalClown · 26/02/2011 17:41

I'm with EDF and I love them. Never a problem.

Even when I get those 'We need to up your Direct Debit' letters. A quick call and it's reset to something more suitable.
Freephone numbers and online support.

LadyOfTheManor · 26/02/2011 17:53

Yeah EDF quoted me fairly cheap...but Scottish power outdid them;

Scottish power:
Online Energy Saver 13 Dual Fuel
Gas unit rates: 6.003p per kWh 2.84p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.a
Electricity unit rates: 17.926p per kWh 10.915p per kWh above 900 kWh p.a

My current EON:
Gas unit rates: 7.26p per kWh 3.158p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.a
Electricity unit rates: 25.557p per kWh 11.582p per kWh above 900 kWh p.a

  • These rates include VAT- the rates on your bill may exclude VAT

Npower - they were one of the cheapest and I got £80 through topcashback so that made them cheaper overall for the year if that makes sense. I change fairly regularly.
