Trivial question but Im running late!
Kids have sandwiches etc for their tea at nusery, so I give them a good cooked dinner before they go.
Does beans on toast with side of broccoli, followed by fruit, jelly and natural yougurt count?
I dont have time to cook anything else but feel gulity!

poached egg and beans on toast is a weekly meal in this house... :)

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2011 13:53

i know someone who lives on those things, habs. she is thin, but puffy somehow. and now i know why...

Tortington · 22/02/2011 13:56

since i've been lcing, i hve noticed that sugr is in most things - almost everything, and what it isn't in, sweetener takes it's place

Habbibu · 22/02/2011 14:05

It's got to be expensive too, surely?

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2011 14:20

i don't think money's a problem, tbh. her dh away a lot and this is what she eats.

Habbibu · 22/02/2011 14:24

That's quite miserable. I'd hate it.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2011 14:28

it would be unthinkable for me. too greedy, for starters.

StarExpat · 22/02/2011 14:55

Habbibu/Aitch - what is the "nasty stuff" you're talking about?

Diet Coke? Sorry Blush maybe I'm not following this properly!

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2011 15:00

oh no (althouhg dc was mentioned) just processed food, but all the low fat versions.

the presenter ate them every day for a month, a perfectly balanced diet but all low fat and prep-prepared.

quite apart from the fact that it looked and according to her tasted pretty revolting, she also had constipation, was ravenous all the time and put on three pounds. Grin

toeragsnotriches · 22/02/2011 15:19

Carbs - check
Protein - check (I think?!)
Veg - check

What's not to like?

StarExpat · 22/02/2011 15:55

Oh it's because I had not seen the show Grin

I agree those things do look vile. I have a family member who fills her cupboards with everything "low fat" or "fat free" but it's all processed crap and they are all still overweight. They need a proper understanding of nutrition and food not just buying stuff that is labeled as low/no fat.

But still think beans on toast is ok. And DS (2y 4mo) will eat it, so that's a bonus! I chopped up cooked carrot and put it in with the beans and he never noticed Blush. I know I'll now get told off for ruining a good meal.

joric · 22/02/2011 17:04

mmmm....we are now having cheesy beans on toast for tea!

scaryteacher · 22/02/2011 18:27

Can't bear beans, had you said cheese on toast topped with hoops or spaghetti in tomato sauce (maybe with an egg on top) I could have joined in!

TrappedinSuburbia · 22/02/2011 18:34

If they eat the broccoli alongside it then let them, doesn't matter if everyone else thinks its horrible, if they like it and its good for them then good for you (broccoli is a staple in this house!)

I wonder how many people are now having beans for tea thanks to this thread Grin

Ormirian · 22/02/2011 18:38

Of course. Perfectly acceptable. I think the brocolli is trying too hard though Wink Make it wm bread and some marmite on the toast and it's manna from heaven!

Ormirian · 22/02/2011 18:39

Arse!

Now I want some

joric · 22/02/2011 18:40

oooh hoops - yum!...have got friends who would pass out at the very thought. Pesto pasta for them every time...which wins more healthy stars do you think?

Ormirian · 22/02/2011 18:41

Nope! Sorry for spag hoops on toast is not good! Carbs and carbs and no protein?

joric · 22/02/2011 18:43

broccoli and egg on the side ?!!

joric · 22/02/2011 18:44

Don't forget one of 5 a day in tomato sauce! (JOKE)

MegBusset · 22/02/2011 18:56

It is a running joke in our house that even the biggest, unhealthiest meal can be redeemed by a bit of broccoli on the side.

Ormirian · 22/02/2011 19:02

Ahhh meg! I remember the days when I would serve the DC pizza with brocolli. I think I used to fret a bit more about such things in those days.....
