To dislike the term "fell pregnant"?

You didn't. Unless you actually tripped and accidentally slipped onto a cock that you couldn't possibly have known was in the room. You are the Virgin Mary, it should not have been a surprise, you had sex, yu did not "fall pregnant".

That is all. I thangyow.

About to drop seems apt, though. Considering how my pelvic floor felt in the latter stages...

FabbyChic · 21/02/2011 18:47

Does it really matter that you don't like the term? Who actually cares whether you like it or not. It is a saying it is not going to bite you and leave a bruise. Jeez you would think some people would have better things to do than post about something so pathetic on the internet, eeeew I dont like it.

Tough.

Galdem · 21/02/2011 18:48

I have an acquaintance who says she 'got caught pregnant'. Always makes me think of 'got caught short' and I imagine her standing in the middle of the street, crossing her knees to stop herself from going.

Galdem · 21/02/2011 18:50

DTD is awful. It's the equivalent of Aunty Flo for period. Grimbo.

Sleepingonthebus · 21/02/2011 18:50

My mum used to say "when you're better" when I was pregnant, meaning after I'd given birth.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 21/02/2011 18:55

"When youre better" would have been quite apt for my pregnancy!

MogadoredMemoo · 21/02/2011 18:57

Before I knew I was pregnant with DD I actually fell arse over tit in the street. Scrapped all the skin from my knees, So I fell and I was pregnant! Grin

CaveMum · 21/02/2011 19:00

Working in horseracing there is a lot of "in foal" used around here Grin

Personally I dislike the term "accident" being applied to pregnancy. Again, you had sex you must have realised this was a possible outcome. If you don't want to be pregnant use some contraception. It aint rocket science.

But that might partly be down to the fact that I'm STILL not pregnant 9 months after starting ttc Sad

Katiepoes · 21/02/2011 19:02

I think it's a useful phrase. It tends to come along with 'we're' pregnant, and act as a signal for me to avoid the twats that use it as they are bound to be exactly the type that wind me up.

I bet women who say 'fell pregnant' refer to their 'hubbies' and drink 'champers' and think ice cream is 'naughty'. They think being 'sassy' is a good thing and were 'singletons' before meeting 'hubby'. Bah.

KittaKatta · 21/02/2011 19:21

"I was injected with baby custard through a pink oboe"

GrinGrinGrin

BitOfFun · 21/02/2011 19:22

I was just goading you with 'doing the nasty' Grin

Oh, and Fabbychic, shall I search all your posts and rank them for relevance and entertainment value? Grin Thought not...

NEWSFLASH: People talk shite on Mumsnet. It happens.

YankNCock · 21/02/2011 19:34

'caught pregnant' gives me this cartoon in my head with the egg holding a fly-fishing rod, trying to catch sperm.

Just thought I'd share.

I'll leave now.

yabu

A1980 · 21/02/2011 22:59

YANBU it's absolutely pathetic.

You fall in or fell in love for example as you don't have a choice who you fall in love with, it just happens. But how the hell do you fall pregnant?!

I much prefer simply got pregnant or became pregnant. Makes much more sense.

kaid100 · 21/02/2011 23:06

How about just "is pregnant" instead of "fell pregnant"? No need to mention sex necessarily, after all there are other ways to get pregnant.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 21/02/2011 23:50

I hate the phrase too. And I hate the word 'pregnant' tbh - there's just something a bit perjorative and sordid about it. What's wrong with 'having a baby'

ExeterisEasy · 21/02/2011 23:53

i hate it. there is no excuse in this day and age for "falling pregnant" unless you wanted, or chose to. as OP said, you dont trip and fall on it.

Catnao · 22/02/2011 00:17

Wish I could bloody well get pregnant, or fall pregnant, or become great with child at the moment. Sad

not1not2 · 22/02/2011 00:19

I hate it too but IMHE it's mainly used by people whose life style is funded by benefits (dons hard hat and runs for the hills Grin)

not1not2 · 22/02/2011 00:21

we're pregnant = vomit

not1not2 · 22/02/2011 00:21

PMSL at the person with 5 kids who hates the word pregnant Grin

I agree though I don't really like the word

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/02/2011 00:22

I "fell pregnant" twice, and both times I was on the pill. So I was using contraception.

oddly enough I have not used any since having DS2 3yrs ago and have not got pregnant!

susanbanthony · 22/02/2011 00:23

Due to falling pregnant I had an epidural and got out of bed and fell over. Not my finest moment.
