Run a couple of small businesses, and rent out some properties. After tax income of between £400k and 800k depending on what sort of year it's been.

Built it up from the age of 18 though and worked damn hard when my friends were out on the lash saying "oh dont stay in and work come ooouuuuttt and get drunk" look who's smiling now. They're all happy for me though of course but a lot of people say "oooh you're so lucky." its NOT LUCK. its fecking hard work!

Although its "never enough" we can't complain but aware could lose it all tomoro if economy drops etc etc etc.

darleneconnor · 20/02/2011 13:43

Oh and my mortgage was only £440 so I had lots of spare cash.

happiestblonde · 20/02/2011 13:44

nice work tuggy

sillymummy72 · 20/02/2011 13:46

You are right chillichill -it does make a difference where you live ( as i if we lived in London we wouldn't be able to afford a shoebox)

We live in Scotland - I work in sales and DH is a lawyer (he would be paid more if he wasfull time but he only works the equivalent of 4 days a week so he can do the school runs etc)

We would love to earn more but do ok - we are seeing most of our friends bypass us now on the earning stakes but that's mainly the ones without DC's - if Dh worked full tie and I could travel more with my job out income would probably go up by about £30 -40k.

Dolcegusto · 20/02/2011 13:47

Job no.1 pays £9 per hour, 16-20 hours per week,
job no.2 pays £10 per hour, 12 hours per week.

bibbitybobbityhat · 20/02/2011 13:53

So - people on this enormous website which covers all demographics earn between £6.43 an hour and £800,000 a year.

Fascinating Hmm not.

noodle69 · 20/02/2011 13:54

I earn less than that bibbity lol

carriedababi · 20/02/2011 13:55

i only get paid in kisses and cuddlesGrin

gettingtogrips · 20/02/2011 13:56

3 years after qualifying as a doctor I get £14,500. That's for 20 hours a week with no anti-social hours.

Mrmagnoliasmissingboot · 20/02/2011 13:59

Sorry. - just meant it's not just luck. As i was going to say 'i'm lucky to have this job'. Wasn't comparing to other people's level of work.

NinkyNonker · 20/02/2011 14:15

Me too Bibbity... I earn nada!

minxofmancunia · 20/02/2011 14:34

I'm a band 7 nurse qualified 12 years, I earn £25k for 26 hours a week. Would be £37k if i was full time. I have 3 degrees and numerous other bit and pieces. I work bloody hard, I don't get paid enough, I deal with risk every day it's shit.

The NHS does well out of us part timers generally, we do a full weeks work into less than 5 days and get paid considerably less. We are always at work late, we never get to take lime in lieu.

Northernlurker · 20/02/2011 14:36

What we all earn is interesting enough - what's really fascinating is the difference between your wage and that of your dh/dp. I am theorising that most people will work less hours and earn less. In my case I work 3 hours less than dh and earn £35 000 less. That's what having three kids and being at home for each of them in their first year will do for you.

Northernlurker · 20/02/2011 14:37

Oh and Minx I agree - I am 3.5 hours short of full time but I do the whole of my job iyswim.

berryshake · 20/02/2011 14:38

£5.98/hr up to 16/hr a week at the local cinema while at university.

psiloveyou · 20/02/2011 14:39

£52,700 per annum but I am on call 24/7 365 days of the year so if I worked it out hourly it's probably not a lot.

DH earns 28,000 for 48 hour week.

noodle69 · 20/02/2011 14:40

Northern Lurker - I earn 50p less an hour than DH. I dont know any DHS that earn much more than their wives/girlfriends.

minxofmancunia · 20/02/2011 14:42

Dh earns about £65k, on paper he works 37.5 hours a week but in reality he works less hours than I do, regularly going to the gym in working hours, finishing early, works from home 3 day a week and has long breaks where he can chill out between jobs. If he has to work past 5pm or work without a break he's a complete stresshead I'm v Hmm tbh. He's a telecommunications engineer.

I get frustrated that he has no ambition and doesn't push himself forward for better roles. Probably because he'll have to work more I expect. It does cause lot of resentment tbh but I shouldn't complain. It means we can live in this house and have a car each.

ManateeEquineOhara · 20/02/2011 14:44

Well done Tuggy, that is inspiring, wish I could go back to 18 and work harder.

I work 18.25 hours a week for seven and a half thousand a year. And I currently have to pay out just over a thousand a year for my masters.

I am poor. The masters bloody better be a worthwhile investment!

cheesesarnie · 20/02/2011 14:45

i work 20 hours a week for £120.have just applied for a new job though so fingers crossed!

JaneS · 20/02/2011 14:45

I get 12,800 pa. But I don't have to pay tax.

I was quite proud when I got paid for teaching (30 quid a week) as it took me to earning slightly more than DH, so we got to go to the bank and call me the 'main earner'. Very ego-boosting! Grin

magicmummy1 · 20/02/2011 14:48

I work 37 hours per week, and earn around £52,000. We're not in London or the South East, so this enables us to live pretty comfortably.

DH earns much less than me, and works slightly fewer hours.

I earned much less in a previous job, but worked every bit as hard as I do now, possibly harder. But I loved every minute of it.

Salary is definitely no measure of a)job satisfaction and b)how hard you have to work!

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 20/02/2011 14:49

I earn 55 per week for a high pressure demanding job most people would refuse to do.

This includes night shifts, and weekends. No days off

ednurse · 20/02/2011 14:49

FT carer in private hospital £14pa plus private healthcare

Milngavie · 20/02/2011 14:59

I work 3 days as an admin and earn just under £7k a year.

Hoping to go FT if I manage to get a new job.
