I'm 45 and I can remember money and nice pens going missing. When I was teaching one little sod nicked my purse. My son goes to an international school abroad where one would imagine there is no need to steal as most kids come from fairly comfortable backgrounds, but ds has had coats nicked, a laptop that a boy with SEN relied on for school was nicked, phones/ipods, gym kit all walk, as do the cards the kids have for lunch with money loaded on them and are found empty of money.

Ds doesn't get to take his ipod or anything similar to school as it will walk.

scaryteacher, I remember not 'nice' pens being pinched. The bics you could buy for 4p.
My DD also goes to a nice international school. I've never known such a load of tea leafs. It isn't as if any of the pupils go without. DD has lost two sets of PE kit despite having her name all over them and a coat. It wasn't even a nice coat, it was from C+A.
When I say, lost I do actually mean stolen.

Exactly Kreecher, and I am anal about labelling. Ds's pe shorts have a large label with his name sewn on the outside, and they walked. I was told if I saw a child wearing ds's stuff, I was not allowed to rip the clothes off them query them, but had to approach a a member of staff.

The answer then has to be collectively working towards changing legislation so that schools can expel dishonest and dysfunctional children to ensure that disruption to the education of ordinary children is minimised. I don't hear too many teachers complaining publicly that thieves, miscreants, disrupters and the downright anti-social should be excluded for the good of other children.

My children went to a local cofe primary - the ds then to indy, where he has now been for 8 years and the dd to a selective state school. I am not aware of any items being "lost" or stolen.

Well just to finish the saga off. Final update on llittle thieving angle .
The orignal child who stole it has left the school two weeks early . He has left for good and I seriously feel sorry for his new school .
The second child occasionally speaks to my Ds and for the sake of harmony I have said just be normal about it .
My Ds got his phone replased for his birthday and it is now insured but he has to do chores around the house to pay for this . If he dosnt do chores I will not pay for insurance so he cant take it into school . So BIG lesson learnt and hopefully karma will happen .
