To want that Disney pop up off mumsnet?

MilaMae · 16/02/2011 11:50

It just popped up in my face. The fridge magnet thing upset me a tad.

We're all struggling at the moment, worried about jobs etc. I've got about as much chance of winning the lottery as taking my dc to Disney. My kids continuously nag about it,I continuously say dream on.

I don't feel I have to take them,I just want to. There are enough marketing pressures re kids I come on here to converse with mums not to be made to feel sad.

I think it's a bit insensitive at the moment at a time when many of us shouldn't/can't dream of spending £2K on a dream holiday.

I thought Mumsnet was better than that,a little disappointed.

Who said anything about crying Hmm?

Mlindt I do that which is why they're fab about things like this-honestly they make me soooooo proud and exactly why I'd love to do the fridge magnet thing.

There you go even an old cynic like me has been hooked in.

DuplicitousBitch · 16/02/2011 12:18

gwynandbearit mentioned crying

MmeLindt · 16/02/2011 12:18

Do something else with them and do a fridge magnet invite. (As long as they will be able to recognise it as not-Disney).

MilaMae · 16/02/2011 12:19

I doubt Ceebeebies will run a clever, extremely expensive and aggressive campaign to get you to buy a holiday in Sharm, guessing not a lot of people have Sharm on their to do list at the moment anyhow.

BoobyMcLeaky · 16/02/2011 12:21

Can't you just turn the pop-ups off? I haven't seen the pop-up because I DH turned them off with the internet security thingy.

MilaMae · 16/02/2011 12:22

Didn't know that Booby, they make me feel car sick, will do that.

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 16/02/2011 12:23

If you use Firefox you can download a pop up blocker.

MilaMae · 16/02/2011 12:24

Will do that-tis obviously just me.

Ah well any of you sucked into booking a Disney hol just don't come crying to me Smile

BendyBob · 16/02/2011 12:25

YABridiculouslyU.

Someone linked to a bag on here yesterday that I'd love and don't have a hope of getting. It's life

BoobyMcLeaky · 16/02/2011 12:26

Mila I love Disney Blush. We're saving to take DD there when she's bigger. I'll be honest, it's us that we're going for Grin.

MilaMae · 16/02/2011 12:27

Don't tell me that Booby

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 16/02/2011 12:28

I do have to admit that we took the DC to Disneyland last year, fully expecting to hate it. We were doing it for the DC.

We all loved it.

Sorry.

MilaMae · 16/02/2011 12:30

Oh god I'm now going to have to hide this thread, all you diehard Disney fans are going to pile on here aren't you- I'm helping Disney

OP posts:
BoobyMcLeaky · 16/02/2011 12:31

Haha, nothing beats getting a cuddle from Mickey Mouse Wink

MilaMae · 16/02/2011 12:32

Mark Warner is probably more expensive than Disneyland, but no one has mentioned an objection to them, they've been advertising for years.

Anyway, if you think the Disney brand is "highly questionable" and it's "an overpriced holiday" then why are you crying because you can't go?

GwynAndBearIt · 16/02/2011 12:35

Can I add that the reason I react to the add is clearly now quite different from MilaMae's.

No, I'm not about to start campaigning to get it removed, it's not that big a deal to me.

However, yes, when I see those children being given the news they are going to Disney it does make me sad that I can't give that to my children, and yes I know there are other things I could do for them that would make them happy but I would love to be able to take them to Disney while they are at the age to fully enjoy the magic of it all.

And not being able to makes me want to cry, being ridiculed for saying that I feel that way is unnecessarily fucking rude.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/02/2011 12:36

Mme, I'm with you. I hate seeing that Sainsbos one when I can't buy the goods necessary for their feed 350 for 20 quid.
OP, get over yourself. if you can't afford it you can't afford it. We won't be going and DD has accepted it.

MilaMae · 16/02/2011 12:42

Gwy there is a bit of your reason involved too,I don't want to go but I know the kids would and I'd wierdly like to do it before they're too old.My 3 are practically the same age. The fact I'd probably do it if loaded is slightly scary.

Kreecher the dc have accepted it,not sure your aggression is needed.

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 16/02/2011 12:43

Gwyn
Don't be upset, neither at the ad nor at the comments on this thread.

Children survive without Disney trips. We did it on the cheap last year and they have been asking to go again bit there is no way we will do so.

There us so much more to being a good parent than Disneyland

PS
MilaMae - Disney just called to thank you for the excellent advertising ploy.

doubleease · 16/02/2011 12:48

You need to get Ad block plus. And it's freeee!

I never see adverts but that MN Webchat thing has been on Will Young for as long as I can remember and that's starting to annoy me. Grin

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/02/2011 13:14

Sorry if you think I'm being agressive, as I said somewhere else, the shit has hit the fan with the over emotionals and the police have been.
They are still ranting though and lots of tears, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Lots two flying cats too.

georgeorwell · 16/02/2011 13:16

i agree with OP wrt walt disney being dodgy anyway on a par with nestle. my ds won't be watching disney rubbish or receiving any disney products let alone going to bloody disneyland.

old walt was an anti semite and anti unions and an all round nasty bloke and disney is guilty of creating and perpetuating crude gender stereotypes............

that's what i think don't get all haughty on my arse now.

HelenMumsnet · 16/02/2011 13:17

Hello. Just to let you know: that ad shouldn't be a rollover. We'll fix it as soon as we can.
