in thinking calling vagina tearing, "tearing" is ridiculous, when really vaginally ripping would seem more accurate

ripping or being pulled apart would probably seem a more realistic term in some cases

not saying ripping will ever catch on, i sure it won't

but the term tearing, make it sound like a little paper cut.

i had 4th degree "tears" with dd
repair op and all that
and i find alot of peoplesay oh i had a bit of tearing too, when perhaps they don't realise what 4th degreee "tear" is

exoticfruits · 15/02/2011 12:56

I don't see that it matters what you call it.

2rebecca · 15/02/2011 12:59

To me a rip is more intentional ie "someone ripped my blouse" rather than "I tore my blouse"
Nothing wrong with tear in this context.

carriedababi · 15/02/2011 13:05

"perineal rupture"
seems like a good description

oh imagine being a zoo keeper, when a gorilla is having a a baby gorilla

that would be scarey

i do find gorilla quite interesting actually

From my many years of watching animal programmes on TV study, I believe gorillas in zoos give birth at night, by themselves. I don't think the keeper gets a look in, really.

We saw a very, very new baby gorilla at Bristol Zoo a while back. It was extrardinarily cute. Not to mention small (in relation to her mum).

carriedababi · 15/02/2011 13:32

aw was it quite fluffy?

that how i imagine they look.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 15/02/2011 13:37

But good lord I was htinking it was about two years ago that we saw her - but it was in 2005 Shock

oh the gorilla looks very cute!

jeelypiece, its highly unlikey to happen, i think 3rd and 4th degree tears only happen in less than 9% of cases

OP posts:
buttonmooncup · 15/02/2011 13:45

For the first I would say that ripping would be accurate. For the second it was more of an audible splitting Shock Sad Angry

Ariesgirl · 15/02/2011 13:47

I know RMCW! I was just playing stupid.

I find it interesting as well that little tiddler babies can cause as much pain as big ones. My sister had a 6 lb 2 baby last summer and she was in labour for 46 hours - he was back to back and the pain was "fucking awful". She was in shock for a week. And she's no small, delicate type.

naturalbaby · 15/02/2011 13:48

am topping up my pelvic floor excercises now.
i had 3 natural homebirths, did perineal massage and tore with all of them. 8lb babies so not massive. totally freaked myself out waiting for dc3 to arrive by looking up 3rd/4th degree tears to prepare myself. wisely accepted stiches 3rd time round after stupidly refusing them 1st time round.

and how can midwives say you have a graze down there? i was thinking grazed knee on the playground and trying to work out how my slimey baby's head had grazed my insides!

Honeydragon · 15/02/2011 13:50

I had a 8lb wvbac it was lovely, and no tears. Nor do I understand the first poo after birth trauma, it was fine.

Ironically I did end up with a bruised and battered fanjo with ds who was only 6lb after an emergency c section Hmm, that was probably on account of the 3 midwives and 2 consultants who went rummaging around in there whilst debating what to do.

JeelyPiece · 15/02/2011 13:50

Audible splitting Shock

Does SPD lessen the chances of this, do you think, seeing as it means the pelvis is looser than normal?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 15/02/2011 13:54

ds was back-to-back too. I think because of that the wrong bit of his head was pushing down on my cervix, hence it only dilated to 9cm and then went into spasm. He was a shade off of 9lbs so bonny but not ginormous. Anyway, after several hours of that the epidural and finally the CS were bliss Grin

carriedababi · 15/02/2011 13:55

Shock at audible splitting

oh that must have been horrible, poor you

luckily i didn't hear the splitting as i was in the pool

OP posts:
JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 15/02/2011 13:57

Almost certainly, jeely

On the first poo thing - I am quite sure (although I may have still been a bit squiffy after all those opiates) that my first post-birth poo was white. Is that possible?

carriedababi · 15/02/2011 13:59

the first poo is like haviing a mini baby!

lol

Odelay · 15/02/2011 13:59

Tear rip potato potato

And isn't it your perineum that gets damaged usually, rather than your vagina

Oh dear, 'audible splitting' is bringing back memories!

Dd1 was only 7lb btw, with 50th centile head, I think being cut and having something akin to a sink plunger pulling her out of my pachingo may have had something to do with having a 3rd degree tear!

Hk13 · 15/02/2011 15:04

I was cut and tore/ripped/mutilated with ds1 who was 8lb, I'm now 15 wks pg and terrified of it happening again! Although if it happens again maybe this time they will sew it up properly so I won't have any more problems [bitter emoticon] my friend had repair surgery but my gp seems to think there is no problem and to just 'get on with it'. Wonder if he would say that if he was the one having painful sex?!!

carriedababi · 15/02/2011 15:17

hk, i bet your gp wouldn't say get on with it it was him

Thats interesting aries ds1 was only 4lbs 15oz and had a really small head. With
ds2 - I was in labour for 4 days and he was a very chunky 8lbs 4oz with a 38cms head.

Of the 2 births, ds1's was more painful.

Pushing stage for each of mine was quite easy (sorry for those of you who had a bad time) only about 6-8 pushes and out they popped but the recovery with ds2 was MUCH harder and longer.

I would rather have had another baby than go through my first post labour poo after ds2 Sad Was horrific.....I actually made bite marks in the towel rail Blush

I didnt hear myslef tear with ds1 but I felt it....shudder....
