I can't get away from them! Soooooo many threads on here seem to centre around somebody being offended about something; and it's usually nothing to get bothered about IMO.

Why have we all turned Victorian? What is so shocking about somebody having a heated argument on tv; seeing somebody with not many clothes on (but all the dodgy bits covered); letting our children play dressing up; etc, etc, etc???

I could go on as it seems like every other thread on here in AIBU in particular centres on somebody being 'offended'. And I'm sick of it! Get a life, stop being so fecking Mary Whitehouse-esque, and don't look/do something else if you don't like it! What's happened to freedom of expression??

Aaaahhhh!

YANBU but, be fair, MN is channelling the spirit of Mary Whitehouse and can't help it.

SenoritaViva · 14/02/2011 13:42

What an offensive thread Moo Moo. I am off to complain about it on netmums. Grin

MooMooFarm · 14/02/2011 13:43

The word 'bum' offends me Grin

yanbu. The amount of people who seem to go looking for something to be offended about or insulted by baffles me.
They're also the sort who seem to want to get things banned because it offends them or they disagree with it rather than just avoid whatever it is that gets to them.

VanityRocks · 14/02/2011 13:46

Completely agree OP!Couldn't have said better myself. There are some seriously sad people out there!

I am offended on my cat's behalf that you are likening his bum to a human mouth, on the premise that a lot less excrement comes out of his bum.

ajandjjmum · 14/02/2011 13:47

Not only here - read the newspapers. Seems to me that the world is full of people with very thin skin.

Hammy02 · 14/02/2011 13:48

Totally agree OP. Some people seem to search out being offended. Brand/Ross/Sachsgate, Jason on Dancing on ice, the outfits on X Factor. It's getting boring now.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/02/2011 13:48

I posted the same thing a while ago and was jumped on. The fact that you're getting so much support for your stance offends the shit out of me! :o

expatinscotland · 14/02/2011 13:49

YANBU

AMumInScotland · 14/02/2011 13:50

YANBU - but its been worse than usual lately. I think a lot of people have joined MN thinking that's the point of it, because they've heard of the high-profile campaigns etc. Not like us normal people who were looking for something more general when we arrived.

Odelay · 14/02/2011 13:51

Well I have never been so offended. Hurramph

Yanbu. people seems so incredibly dull recently. Dong they gave real things to occupy them?

LaurieFairyCake · 14/02/2011 13:51

yanbu

people need to get a grip and worry about stuff that's actually important.

maybe they could turn off soap operas or not buy from shops they have a problem with.

I also don't like incessant whinging so I'm going to shut the fuck up now. Grin

KnittedBreast · 14/02/2011 13:51

I dont think people are offended by the gist or the idea behind something, its often the solution thats undesirable. for exmaple in my post i was unhappy with the availability of high heeled shoes for 2-3yr olds, im not offended by childre of that age dressing up-quite the opposit. But why put such a young child in heels? whats wrong with a curtain etc instead.

There are some people that seem to get offended on behalf of others of pissed off at silly things, but these are different to matters where is a good reason behind it, for example the development of a childs foot, or encouraging a very young child to wear something than encourages the youngster to walk/swagger in a way that is directly linked to sexiness ofa grown woman

boolifooli · 14/02/2011 13:53

Here here! Many posters around here are often saying stuff like 'it is the height of rudeness' 'I would never let my dc x/y/z' 'I'm horrified' and from the strength of their disgust you'd assume they'd witnessed a genocide on their way to Waitrose. It usually amounts to something I feel certain isn't worth working up a sweat about let alone bursting a major artery through stress.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 14/02/2011 13:53

Jesus and Mo usually have the answer here.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/02/2011 13:53

And it has been pointed out to you that tap shoes are exactly the same heel as the ones you were whining about.

Tap dancing isn't about 'sexiness' - it's about dancing. And 3 year olds do that.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 14/02/2011 13:55

Ah no. This is a better one.

Nippolopolis · 14/02/2011 13:55

agreed.

some people need a hobby.

MooMooFarm · 14/02/2011 13:55

Oy oy knittedbreast - I started this thread to have a veiled moan about your sort behind your back, not carry on the argument Grin

OP posts:
ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 14/02/2011 13:56

Meh, it's competitive taking offence. A 'Look at this! THIS! Isn't it dreadful! Now, everyone validate me! VALIDATE MEEEEEEE!' type thing.

Vallhala · 14/02/2011 13:56

YANBU. I often want to respond with "Get a bloody grip!" bristle when I read that someone is "offended" or "outraged" when in all normality reality it would be reasonable for them to be at best merely a little irritated. :o

Unwind · 14/02/2011 13:57

I find lots of things offensive

but I don't think I've any particular right not to be offended

GypsyMoth · 14/02/2011 13:57

Yes!!
The name and shame the shop thread is just plain ridiculous!!! Really it is!

Because if we are talking traditional dress up with curtains, then aren't we also talking about tottering around in mums much higher (than Cuban heel) stillettos!?!!
