To name and shame a shop.....

I was in town yesterday and wondering into a certain shop.

They were selling red shiney sequined high heels in a baby size 7- thats aged 2-3year.
the shoes had high heels and very adult looking, also really cheaply made crap quality, not substantial at all or supportive in the way an adult womans high heels might be.

I had a word with the sales manager and explained it was disgusting, sexualisation of babyhood, the harm it could do to developing feet etc... she said she agreed but if people buy it they will continue to sell it. her next defence was "at least we dont sell thongs for the under 5s like some shops"-what kind of justification is that??

Was it a shop that has signed up to the MN Let Girls Be Girls campaign?
Either way, yes, you should name and shame.

KnittedBreast · 14/02/2011 12:18

i would never buy it! im just saddened that this is what retailers have dropped to.

I'm quite suprised it's Accessorise - they are part of Monsoon and I thought that Monsoon were quite 'ethical'. Shame, I like some Accessorise stuff and now I'll have to boycott it.

wigglesrock · 14/02/2011 12:27

I've seen them, they're dress up shoes, like Wizard of Oz ruby slippers.

zingzillachinchilla · 14/02/2011 12:29

I guess it's the flamenco ones? Pretty harmless I'd have thought. Heel is quite high so they might find it tricky to walk in but agree with wigglesrock - they look like dressing up shoes. I wouldn't call them unethical, personally.

FabbyChic · 14/02/2011 12:30

Jeez thought you meant high heels, they have a block heel that is 2" high.

Jins · 14/02/2011 12:31

They aren't as bad as I was expecting.

They aren't really adult looking shoes, at least I don't know any adults who wear things like that Confused

sparkle12mar08 · 14/02/2011 12:32

They're hardly 'high heels' and would probably look very cute on a 7-8 year old. But yes, inappropriate for a 2-3 year old I agree.

Personally I hate seeing little girls, and little boys dressed like adults. On saturday I saw some little girls aged about 5-7 yrs dressed all in black with boots, leggings, hairdone up earings, trendy tops and sparkly bits. I so dislike seeing children made to look tartie. They are only children and should be in nice Clarks\Startrite shoes with buckles and proper classical clothes. Cant bear black on little boys either. Black bomber jackets and hair all spikey and jelled....yuk !
As for babies in high heeled shoes. . . . are you joking ???????????? BAH !

My daughter (6) has the pink ones. I bought them for her for a christmas present as dress-up shoes. SHe loves dressing up and loves the noise high-heels make on the wooden floors. I wouldn't let her wear them for everyday going out to the park etc wear, but i don't seem the harm in dressing up shoes.

I always wanted Dorothys red ruby slippers when i was little Grin.

I would have to say though they are well made and that is why they are expensive so i am sure Accessorise made them for everyday shoes.

I've seen them. I brought a pair in gold to go with a princess dress up costume her mum made her for world book day at school.

They are not really high heels just a block heeled sparkly shoes

Eglu · 14/02/2011 12:37

They aren't really high. I still think they are inappropriate whether they are dressing up shoes or not, but not as horrendous as I thought.

Monsoon ethical? Really? Have you noticed that their clothes are made in India?

red shoes here Now DD (4) has heels, disney things, purely dress up and not 'fancy/dressy shoes' and there is a difference.

The other day I saw a mother and dd dressed similar, the dd was about five. She had knee high heeled boots, tight mini skirt, crop top and denim jacket. The mother was about 45 and so way too old and flabby for the look and the little girl looked like a mini hooker.

ShatnersBassoon · 14/02/2011 12:39

They're children's clip-clop shoes, I was expecting to see clear heels or something.
