To name and shame a shop.....

I was in town yesterday and wondering into a certain shop.

They were selling red shiney sequined high heels in a baby size 7- thats aged 2-3year.
the shoes had high heels and very adult looking, also really cheaply made crap quality, not substantial at all or supportive in the way an adult womans high heels might be.

I had a word with the sales manager and explained it was disgusting, sexualisation of babyhood, the harm it could do to developing feet etc... she said she agreed but if people buy it they will continue to sell it. her next defence was "at least we dont sell thongs for the under 5s like some shops"-what kind of justification is that??

They are flamenco shoes.......heels are integral part of dancing!!!!

I don't get the problem with slightly high-heels, why are you sooo against them knitted???

Some little girls love sparkly glittery things that make a noise when worn, why is that such a bad thing? If it makes them smile and feel nice isn't that a good thing??

KnittedBreast · 14/02/2011 13:56

thank you for your advice fairy cake, i actually already do charity work for good causes.

You seem to be missing my point, dressing up fine, sparkles fine.

Heels of any height at that age range is wrong.

Just my opinion and I have now contacted the company to voice my opinion.

They're not that much different from tap shoes. Anyway I like them. Very Dorothy.

Best not come to our school nursery KB. Some of the things in the dressing up box would have you calling for the smelling salts...

mmmitsdelicious · 14/02/2011 14:05

They are high heels imo.
Just dressing up shoes as other posters have pointed out.

mmmitsdelicious · 14/02/2011 14:06

that should say aren't high heels Blush

What do you expect the company to DO about your email?

SoupDragon · 14/02/2011 14:08

What did you expect the member of staff to do? Gasp in horror and whisk it all off display? It is a large chain, not an independent store and they stock what they are told to stock. they don't care whether you buy a bag from them or not.

GypsyMoth · 14/02/2011 14:10

I think op expected a mumsnet 'campaign' to kick off....

harassedinherpants · 14/02/2011 14:12

My dd (aged 4 and would be princess) would love those!

I wouldn't buy them for her at 4, but maybe in a couple of years. She has Clarks for everyday, but cheaper sparkly ones for party/dressing up shoes.

Fernie3 · 14/02/2011 14:13

They look fine to me, cute in fact. Obviously not meant for day to day wear.

Fernie3 · 14/02/2011 14:14

My daughter was size 7 at 5 not 2-3 so the sizing is fine in my opinion.

saffy85 · 14/02/2011 14:15

I quite like them Blush Pretty sure my DD aged 3 would loooove them but as I don't have £17 to spend on play shoes (wouldn't be the sort of thing she'd wear all the time) I'll have to pass.

I think the sales manager sounded like she was very polite. And she's right- not only are these shoes not wildly inappropriate, it is indeed your choice what you buy and where you shop.

I thought it was going to be some tasteless tat, but these are quite cute actually. Not sure what the OPs problem is with it. I doubt that anyone's going to use it as their regular everyday shoes, just for a special occasion now and then. I really don't get the outrage. Confused

cupofteaplease · 14/02/2011 14:23

My dds are 5 and 3 and they both have a pair of these shoes in silver.

They wear them for dressing up in the house. Tbh, they haven't put them on in ages. I might get them out this afternoon for a good old cipetty clop around the house Grin

DooinMeCleanin · 14/02/2011 14:24

They look very similar to some dressy tap shoes dd1 had to wear for a x-mas show when she was doing dance. She was 4 at the time Shock

dd2 (3) wears them now in the house. They are her favourite shoes. She wears them with her cinderella dress.

YABU and OTT.

vintageteacups · 14/02/2011 14:28

Although I don't agree with heels for small feet, to me, they don't look sexy; more like Dorothy's shoes in the Wizard of Oz.

Just because their clothes are made in India Posieparker doesn't mean they're not ethical. They could be supporting a community making their clothes who might otherwise be in terrible working conditions.

That said, I don't actually know how ethical Monsoon are?

Dinosaurhunter · 14/02/2011 14:51

Omg I recently brought both my nieces a pair of these shoes so they could use them for dressing up !
It never once crossed my mind that they would be unsuitable and both their parents thought they were really cute (the girls are 3 and 4)

Oh just for the record monsoon is completing 100per cent ethical and does a awful lot for charity through the mnsoon trust !!
