and that " oh i love my old t shirt" is no reason to wear one that FAILS TO ABSORB and therefore makes you drip everywhere

this is mainly men.

Can we have an acceptable gym outfit thread? From those who frequent such sweaty places, to inform those considering going and correcting any common errors

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:16

errr so I notice when I am not scooting past to go to the coffee lounge (it has a costa and all said associated pastries in it)

LessNarkyPuffin · 14/02/2011 16:17

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww at communal jacuzzi.

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:17

I do wear NAICE tops to go to coffee lounge

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:20

Less its all communal except changing area.
There was a man having a shave once in the sauna - had a little pot of water etc.

I was tempted to shave the ole fanjo line - hmmmmm

sungirltan · 14/02/2011 16:20

what is wicking? link!!!

dh wears old army scraggy kit to the gym because wright lifting is a serious, serious business. so there.

i wear some nike dri fit and some primark vests because it works for me.

i cannot, cannot understand people who can work out wearing thick jersey track pants and or velour. i would bloody DIE running/sweating in that get up.

whilst we're here the trendy boys in my gym often wear woolly hats. explain?

LessNarkyPuffin · 14/02/2011 16:22

I don't mean gender I mean people. How many people a day go through it?

All the dead skin cells and fecal matter and bacteria.

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:23

We asda jersey am afraid - it gets sweaty and burns more cals - I like to spend money on other clothes that I socialise in with friends atc.

Occasionally, very occasionally get some branded stuff from TKmax.

DH has a huge gym bag and I have to rut his stuff out else he doesnt put it in wash Shock & Blush

cornsilk · 14/02/2011 16:23

all men in gym jacuzzis are pervs. Fact.

LessNarkyPuffin · 14/02/2011 16:24

Germy pervs.

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:25

LOL oh I see Less so this would be the same people that use the communal swimming pool that we swim in

LessNarkyPuffin · 14/02/2011 16:26

Ah, but when you're swimming you're too busy to think about it Grin

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:29

Yes but I will remember your 'break down' of my communal water next time I dont go swimming LOL Grin

Germy pervs LOL

And worse the shower is next the jacuzzi and if you want to rinse off pool water before going into sauna or steam room they can watch you - but sorry cod there is no wicking just watching yuk

cornsilk · 14/02/2011 16:30

Germy pervs and usually fat as well

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:33

hmm if my body hair keeps up I could join them under cover - I am fat enough well wearly, with no make up and a wicker top on I could infiltrate and squirt them with something

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/02/2011 16:34

No. Yanbu. Sweaty gits.

I used to go circuit training, where there were 4 or 5 activities you did in a round. So when the music changed you would have to go and do squat thrusts on a mat which a fat man with skin taggy armpits had just been drip sweating all over WITHOUT A TOWEL.

And then THEN at the end you would have to partner up with someone and grab each others forearms and jig your arms back and forth at high speed. Urgh at someone elses sweaty arms and cringe at my own sweatiness.

I don't go circuit training anymore.

sungirltan · 14/02/2011 16:34

it doesn't burn more calories it just makes you dehydrated. boxers sweat it out in jersey ONLY before the weigh in. then they down litres of water.

Lucyintheskywithdiazepam · 14/02/2011 16:35

Wicking fabric creeps me out. Can't stand the feel of it touching me. Not a fan of the phrase 'makes my teeth itch' but it does. DP wears it for the gym and I have to pick them up with a hand gloved with a normal cotton t-shirt when doing the laundry. Normal trackies and a t-shirt for me in the gym, but then, being a girlie, I don't sweat like a priest in a playground drip, I glow in a demure and ladylike fashion Wink

While we're on the subject of gym etiquette...when there are 2 fully functioning jacuzzis and I'm in one of them and the other is unoccupied...use that one! Do not get on the one I'm in and then practically sit on my lap; especially if you're about 104 with hair sprouting out of places that should never have hair

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/02/2011 16:36

I can't go in jacuzzis. I just think of all the faecal matter floating around me.

I used to belong to a very smart expensive gym. It just meant that the clientele were older and fatter.

PercyPigPie · 14/02/2011 16:39

dinky skinky I so agree with you. I was on a cross trainer the other day next to someone who stank. It wasn't just sweat - it was how I can only image a man's nether regions would smell if they hadn't bothered to wash them for quite a while. I nearly retched, but being British, I didn't move machines because I thought he would think I was rude Blush[mug].

Lucyintheskywithdiazepam · 14/02/2011 16:39

Aaah, that's where I'm going wrong, GOML...it's a v. posh and expensive gym.

It's the esser of the evils, though...my other option isn't any more attractive. It's frequented by the sort of people that think you're a snob if your tattoos are all spelt correctly...

namechange100 · 14/02/2011 16:41

SUN cheaper than a wrap treatment then!

LUCY I cant stand this type of behaviour on public transport and when people have all the coffee lounge and stand next to my table to have their conversation about how one house in their fecking street wont sell for access road to a property developer

sungirltan · 14/02/2011 16:41

livingwell was full of older and fatter but a naice place nonetheless.

fitnessfirst was chav.

hotel gym i used to go to was full of old geezers doing circuit training - brill! (and no perving)

i am at thegymgroup now. mostly patronised by students. it has a view of mcdonalds :-(

i do baby swimming at a very naice tennis and raquet club. it is hunk filled! soon as i go back to work i am forcing dh to join there with me. forcing!!

sungirltan · 14/02/2011 16:45

namechange - yah indeed but it wont make you lose weight in the long term

ivykaty44 · 14/02/2011 16:46

some men go to the gym and work out, then they pack there gym kit into there bag - they pop it into the car and they DONT WASH THERE KIT.
THEN THEY RETURN TO THE GYM AND START OVER

with the old smelly kit...

then the old smelly kit gets warm and stinks, everyone in a half mile radious gets wiffed out

its disgusting
