Ok so here is my defence..

i have recently come out of hospital where i basically didnt eat anything as i didnt like any of the food and i am mega fussy. Iv been feeling like shit and this morning have failed to get out of bed due to the medication i am taking making me feel awful with headache/fever etc etc..

So... My DP decided to take DD for a walk into town to get a joint of meat for dinner and to meet a friend he asks if i would like anything so i say hmm yes...

A cheese and bacon turnover and a belgian bun from (dare i say???) Greggs. this is an old favorite of mine and happens on VERY VERY rare occasions, when it happens i take it very seriously (eat slowly etc to savoiur the goodness bad greasy devil food)

So off he goes, he has just returned.. With only the belgian bun. when questioned he says they had no cheese and bacon turnovers...

OH MY GOD...he says he didnt think i would want an alternative.. Baring in mind he knows that Greggs is soooo rare and how seriously i take it?

so AIBU to feel abit peeved that he returned with nothing greasy?

Go on flame me i can take it.

Could he not have rang you and asked what else you wanted?

ZillionChocolate · 13/02/2011 13:52

He could have phoned to offer you alternatives if he was incapable of taking the initiative!

Snorbs · 13/02/2011 13:52

Damn these bastard men and their oh-so-convenient inability to read minds... Wink

whyme2 · 13/02/2011 13:53

Well I can understand your DP not getting you a substitute because when you really fancy something in particular nothing else really hits the spot.
And anyway it is hardly his fault that Greggs didn't bake enough this morning.

Get well soon.

It should read AIBU that Greggs didn't cater for you.

BootyMum · 13/02/2011 13:53

YANBU.

He should have rung you and asked what else you would have liked!

How disappointing for you. Your OH needs to make more of an effort!

MCos · 13/02/2011 13:54

Well, you say that you are very fussy eater. So I can imagine he thought he would be wasting his time!

Tricky one. He obviously knows you wouldn't really have wanted an alternative, but i can agree it would have been nice to be asked.

houseworkwhore · 13/02/2011 13:58

I was expecting a flaming!

I shall show him the verdict later!

TheMonster · 13/02/2011 13:58

I bet if he had returned with an alternative you would have told him to not have bothered Grin

squeakytoy · 13/02/2011 14:05

I would damn well send him back out immediately!!! lol!

JingleMum · 13/02/2011 14:14

YANBU!

you must be so disappointed Sad

he should have purchased a couple of alternatives to offer you when he returned home. men Hmm

i want a greggs now.

chillichill · 13/02/2011 14:16

ridiculous. even if you did not want the alternative he could have eaten it. almost as bad as my dh who, on my first morning home after giving birth to dd went to cafe to get me a Bacon and egg roll as I was starving and really craved one. he got a call on the way home and stayed outside to.talk rather than bring up my roll so by the time I got it it was cold and soggy. I was so mad I threw it at him. not my finest moment but I had just given birth 36 hours before.

yogididabooboo · 13/02/2011 14:18

divorce the bastard now.

JingleMum · 13/02/2011 14:19

chillichill - i'd have done more than threw it at him!

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 13/02/2011 14:22

So one Greggs was out of stock?

There are 1400 Greggs outlets in the UK

He should have called and gone through what they had on the shelves. You just wanted a treat out of hospital.

I bet he scarfed it on the way home. Smell his lips!

Earlybird · 13/02/2011 14:23

Well, I am going to disagree with the majority and say I think you are being slightly unreasonable.

My case, your honour:

  • you have been in hospital, so he has been worried about you and presumably working/caring for your dd and doing all household chores on his own for a period of time
  • you are home from hospital, but still incapacitated so he spent the afternoon taking your dd out (so you could rest in peace), shopping for the evening meal (which presumably he will cook), and buying you a special food request (though, admittedly it would have been nice to call you to see if you wanted a substitute....but maybe he was letting you rest/sleep in peace?).

I think he sounds a gem, and you should appreciate him for the effort he has made/is making, instead of whinging about the one thing he didn't quite accomplish to your liking....through no fault of his own, i might add.

Hope you're feeling better soon, btw.

MorticiaAddams · 13/02/2011 14:24

He should have phoned.

Hospital food tastes like shite, even the sandwiches are horrible.

houseworkwhore · 13/02/2011 14:25

OKAY People new information has come to light.....

HE HAD A STEAK BAKE!!!

I got NOTHING NADDA!! and he had a steak bake

NOW IM PISSED OFF

OP posts:
TheMonster · 13/02/2011 14:26

Now I can understand your anger. Men!

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 13/02/2011 14:30

Ooohh what was the fool thinking, admitting he had a steak bake??

He should have bought you an alternative - I'm sure if you didn't want it he would have managed to eat it!

Still... I'm guessing it's not a mistake he'll make again Grin

Hope you are feeling better soon!

TheKingsPeach · 13/02/2011 15:47

I bet he has eaten his steak bake, got the taste of evil food and not been able to stop himself eating your cheese and bacon turnover as well.

He only admitted to the steak bake in case you found crumbs on his clothing.

He is a cad of the highest order.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 13/02/2011 15:49

My husband does this. If they don't have what I asked for, he will bring nothing. Because they did not have the specified item.

So now I tell him clearly that if they don't have it, bring X, if they don't have X, bring Y and if they don't have that, find a suitable alternative.

It amazes me that you have to spell this out to an adult, but there you go.
