To think I this is NOT starving my child?

ThreIsNoSpoon · 13/02/2011 11:59

A friend popped over earlier and saw my 9 mth old eating lunch and we got to talking about weaning and so forth.

She then asked what dc had had to eat today, what was for dinner and said that it wasnt enough and I was 'starving the poor child'!

Todays menu has been:

Breakfast - pot of yoghurt mixed with oats and a slice of toast with butter

Lunch - half a hummus and cheese sandwich and third of a can of sliced peaches

Dinner - will be roast beef with roast vegetables. Banana for pudding.

Snacks over the day may include cheese, bread sticks, maybe a biscuit. Also 5 or 6 feeds across the day before going down to sleep.

This is a typical days menu.

Now AIBU in thinking this is an ok diet for a 9 month old or do I need to be completely re-educated as I am starving my child??

she's being silly, ignore her.

MotherofHobbit · 13/02/2011 12:01

Hmm sounds about the same amount I feed my 8mo and perfectly normal.

jaggythistle · 13/02/2011 12:01

sounds like a pretty good diet to me! so YANBU.

:)

bamboobutton · 13/02/2011 12:01

compared to how much 8mo eats yours is positivly stuffed!

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 13/02/2011 12:02

Yes you are starving your child.

Pfft... that much food and 5/6 feeds the only risk is that they might POP Grin

Tell your friend she knows not of what she speaks.

bamboobutton · 13/02/2011 12:02

'my 8mo eats'

Tee2072 · 13/02/2011 12:02

'Food is fun until age 1'

You're feeding her fine. What does your friend think, that if your baby was hungry you wouldn't know?!?! Hungry babies are very very vocal babies in my experience!

Bloodymary · 13/02/2011 12:03

That is a good healthy diet OP.
You are the Mother, so you would know if she was hungry.
She is interfering.

Olessaty · 13/02/2011 12:05

Goodness me, that's a lovely full healthy diet. Your friend is being silly.

VanityRocks · 13/02/2011 12:05

Is your friend fat?

ThreIsNoSpoon · 13/02/2011 12:06

Ha! Thank you!! That is what I said. I think I may have been quite vocal as she left in a huff. TBH I think she is projecting her childrens issues with food onto my child, which is just plain weird!!

OP posts:
Cosmosis · 13/02/2011 12:08

what on earth is she feeding hers if she thinks that's starvation?

duchesse · 13/02/2011 12:08

Good grief, that's more than my 17 mo eats. Probably more than she'll eat by the time she's 4 at this rate! At 9 mo she ate nothing! Your friend is being silly.

ThreIsNoSpoon · 13/02/2011 12:09

She isnt fat, but her children are on the heavier side. They scoff anything and everything, and beg and beg (and get given!) junk food from fast food outlets every day. Nothing wrong with fast food as such, but I do believe in the everything in moderation method of eating!! I just think that se is so insecure about her own childrens eating that she projects on to friends children, saying they arent eating enough, trying to force them to eat more, so her children seem more 'normal' iyswim?

And no, I dont think dc is hungry! Very happy and laid back child!

It all sounds lovely. I'm sure there are a lot of mums with babies on here who are jealous of your little one's ability to eat so well.
Your friend is insecure about her own children's feeding habits I think. That's her issue. Remember, food and sleeping are big issues with most new parents and differing views on said issues can cause problems IME with mum friendships. Just ignore her :)

gruber · 13/02/2011 12:19

Perfect diet for 9mo in my opinion. I'd be very happy if a 9pm I looked after (I'm a nanny) ate that AND still had 5/6 feeds. Don't worry, you are right and she is wrong.

Longtalljosie · 13/02/2011 12:22

See your post from 12.09. There's your answer. It's about her issues.

LilyBolero · 13/02/2011 12:30

Sounds absolutely fine.
My 9mo has;
breakfast - 1 Oatibix with a banana
lunch - pot of steamed vegetables - whatever I've cooked - yesterday was spinach/peas/apple, today will be carrot/sweet potato/parsnip with baby rice and milk
tea - another pot of veggies, again with rice, or cereal if he'd prefer.
snacks - rice cakes, plus anything he wants to 'try' - often he'll eat a piece of broccoli/carrot/green bean as finger food.
lots of b/milk

I need to start giving him some meat I think, and eggs to up the protein. I'm keeping him off wheat for the moment as he gets v sicky when he has wheat.

squeakytoy · 13/02/2011 12:35

That sounds plenty... and it also sounds as if her kids are well on the way to obesity and health problems..

Sounds like more than my 3 year olds eats!

Lovely diet

GabySolis · 13/02/2011 13:22

Sounds a perfectly normal diet for a 9 month old to me, and a healthy one at that.
Ignore her, she doesn't know what she's on about.

booandbump · 13/02/2011 13:24

Sounds fine to me, I'd ignore her. It's none of her business.

TheOldestCat · 13/02/2011 20:50

I'd be thrilled if my nearly-one-year-old ate anything near that lot (baby-led weaning has not worked well for us).

Ignore and carry on!

BuzzLiteBeer · 13/02/2011 20:53

as if all babies are the same! I have 3, one would have eaten the other ones body weight at that age, on that lived basically on air, and one in between. And they are all perfectly healthy.

So, in essence, fuck her. Grin--------------
