to think cheese and onion should be green

Cheese and onion crisps should be green and salt and vinegar blue. Mc coys ( king of crisps so not to be messed with ) have got it right, but DH seems to think Walkers are right with their blue for cheese and onion weirdness and green salt and vinegar.

YANBU. Most crisp manufacturers do it your way round, which makes sense.

The next thing you know, Walkers will be selling semi-skimmed milk with a blue top and full fat milk with a green top, just to be different. And annoying.

Blatherskite · 12/02/2011 16:38

Cheese and Onion should be green because that's what colour even the smell of them makes me. Yuk!

And McCoys should make (Blue) Salt and Vinegar crisps like they used to - with so much flavouring on, they made you wince. I'm always disappointed when I buy them these days.

Meglet · 12/02/2011 16:41

YANBU.

A couple of months ago I had a multi-pack of Walkers and pulled out the blue packet for my work lunch and popped it in my bag. I was gutted when I realised it was C&O and not S&V Sad.

NacMacFeegle · 12/02/2011 17:05

YA SO NBU, it is just RUDE. Tayto have it right with yellow cheese and onion, blue salt and vinegar. And the best ones, purple pickled onion, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 12/02/2011 17:08

piratecat speaks the truth. Walkers turned the crisp world on its head with their green S&V. S&V should be banned anyway

SardineQueen · 12/02/2011 17:10

YANBU at all.

I am so glad that you have started a thread about this outrageous scandal.

buttercupsareyellow · 12/02/2011 17:12

Totally agree, I always think this every time I crack open a bag of cheese and onion!

LadyThumb · 12/02/2011 17:31

It is because the original company - who had it the right way round - got the 'copyright' and then banned the others from using 'their' colours !

Soups · 12/02/2011 17:41

YANBU salt and vinegar should be blue.

Notfabatforty · 12/02/2011 17:42

I have thought since I was about ten years old.

nufsed · 12/02/2011 17:43

YANBU. It's just wrong.

Yodaontv - Golden Wonder are still about, we sell their sausage & tomato, they're very popular.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/02/2011 17:50

yanbu. I demand a mumsnet campaign NOW!

Foxinsocks · 12/02/2011 17:54

Dh is wrong and you are right

This is exactly the sort of dilemma that perplexes me daily

Georgimama · 12/02/2011 17:57

YANBU. It is wrong. In fact salt and vinegar used to be my favourite crisp flavour, but after accidentally picking up C&O so often my tastes have shifted.

(has sudden longing for salt and vinegar crisps)

moogster1a · 12/02/2011 18:13

thank you for the support everyone. Should we email Walkers and ask for an explanation for this travesty? Surely a few hundred posts from mnetters should make them see the error of their ways

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/02/2011 18:16

YANBU.

This has bugged me my whole life

PigeonPair · 12/02/2011 18:20

I seem to remember that, ages ago, Walkers used to have Cheese & Onion in Green packets and Salt and Vinegar in Blue Packets. Might have a look on internet to see....

bulby · 12/02/2011 18:23

Yanbu but seabrooks c&o are defo the best

undercovamutha · 12/02/2011 18:25

YANBU - and I get quite cross about it!

gapbear · 12/02/2011 18:26

Oh no...

YABU

Cos you don't get green cheese, do you? But you do get blue cheese.

Also, I only eat Walkers these days. (Nothing beat the Happy Shopper S&V, despite being in blue packets - they proper made your mouth turn inside out)

dearprudence · 12/02/2011 18:28

Walkers are arrogant fuckers with their blue cheese and onion. Of course they're wrong.

I'm used to it with normal crisps, but they caught me out with a packet of French Fries last week and it was very distressing.

SecretNutellaFix · 12/02/2011 18:29

Golden Wonder were the brand that had cheese and onion on green packs. That was the brand we had growing up. Walkers have really only become popular in the past 15 years or so, at least in my memory. They used to be very expensive compared to other brands.

MangoTango · 12/02/2011 18:30

YADNBU. Of course cheese and onion should be green like Golden Wonder were in the 70s. Walkers are wrong!

dearprudence · 12/02/2011 18:31

Is anyone else's mouth watering with all this talk of strong salt and vinegar crisps?

Saltire · 12/02/2011 18:34

Yes and Ready Salted should be Red and Prawn Cocktail pink

Does anyone else remember Tudor crisps?
