Family make-ups are changing. Why is it the family prize in competitions is always for a family of four - what about the many, many families of five plus? It's discrimination that we can't enter!

And entry to theme parks, attractions, pools, soft play etc - the family tickets are nearly always for a family of four. Again, many families are bigger than that. It's starting to get on my nerves!

Obviously I know they're both Edinburgh (but they were ones I happened up last summer). I've seen others around too

Family of 4 (2+2 or 1+3)
Family of 5 (2+3 or 1+4)
Family of 6 (2+4 or 1+5)

Being a "family of 2" (DP and I), we get to invite our nephews or our friends' kids with us when we get one of these vouchers. No one really asks for marriage or paternity proof, and it's a great way of getting to be the cool uncle/auntie .

As many posters mentioned, they have to set the limit at something. With birth rates at their lowest, 2 parents and 2 children should be pretty standard, IMHO.

Off the top of my head, the Dewa Roman museum in chester was 2+3 family ticket. There is a Traquair Festival in teh Borders that is 2+3 for a family ticket.

It is not specifically 'family'. I have 1 dc and my friend 2dc. We often get a family of 5 ticket or family + 1ch and its always cheaper. There are places that do combination 1ad, 3ch etc. Often these tickets charge the equivelent of 4 ch entry so is cheaper.

YANBU. How many people are part of one of these exact units? Single people, those with a different number of children than 2, childless couples, people whose children have left home but are not yet retired.... not sure why a "family of 4" should get priority or special discounts over everyone else really.

You think you've got it hard! At least you can buy the 2+2 and then top it up with what you need but try being a single parent with an only child. Everything is full price, and as others have pointed out no child prices for holidays, it's 2 adults for everything.

or you can just skip the hotels and go for B&B. Often cheaper and usually much more accommodating - have never had one ever that hasn't agreed to 2 of mine topping and tailing, or having them sharing with us......one even offered to put a mattress down on the floor (there really REALLY wasn't space for a bed).
