To think that a few of the self professed gorgeous people on here would benefit from switching to Ch 4 right now?

And have a look at the documentary about the ugly face of beauty?

Enorma - noooo - the 'unpopular opinions threads' - think the first one has been pulled but the same thoughts were expressed in the second.

I'm off,
I'm sure the "visitors" who started most of the rucks recently would only be delighted to watch another thread implode.

Sorry your pissed about this though Sassy.

So sassy x posts, can completely see why you've brought this up.

bupcakesandcunting · 09/02/2011 20:47

"Beauty and the 'Beast'...nice."

Yeah, I thought that was a bit fucking off too.

FWIW, to me, ugly is someone like Katie Price, that has distorted their natural looks so much that they've started to look grotesque. Facial disfigurement doesn't make you ugly, it just doesn't.

ENormaSnob · 09/02/2011 20:48

I didn't read that thread sassy.

I was thinking of the other in chat which is why I thought your title was harsh. My mistake.

Sassybeast · 09/02/2011 20:50

Balloonballs - all that stuff came hot on the heels of a thread about kids with glasses and how some people felt that glasses meant their child wouldn't be as 'pretty' ot 'attractive' I WAS riled by that thread Wink I dunno - it depresses me that so much value is placed on physical attaractivness and it makes me feel very protective of DD. It's easy to teach her friends about it - it's harder to challenge the prejudices they soak up from parents and other people.

I don't think I'm ugly and spend time making the best of what I've got.I don't use fake tan, extensions or falsenails. I just like make-up and keep fit. It doesn't make me a horrible or uncaring person. There are loads of people much better looking than I could ever hope to be and some who are seen by society to be unattractive.
I wouldn't judge anyone on their looks. The kind of people I want to be friends with are nice/funny/thoughtful... how good looking they are doesn't even come into it.

ENormaSnob · 09/02/2011 20:51

The title of that programme is horrible.

I only watched the first few minutes.

balloonballs · 09/02/2011 20:55

Sass, I don't know what to say to you, it's beyond depressing that people think that way.

Don't let the bastards get you down!Grin

Sassybeast · 09/02/2011 21:00

Balloon - Generally I dont - I think the level of hysteria (as I perceive it) about beauty or lack of over the last few days has magnified the issue for me. DD isn't bothered at the minute - she'll occasionally comment that someone has said something - I just worry that it will become more of an issue as she and her peers become more body/beauty aware. She's unawre of the looks but I notice them all - and the occasional whisper. If I was as arsey IRL as I am online I'd feel able to challenge folk directly I suppose!

they keep talking about 'the beast' as being the desire to look good that takes over people's lives, as contrasted with the beauty that anyone (including people with facial disfigurements) can have.
(but I am sure they were quite well aware that people would think that the opposite was meant....)

balloonballs · 09/02/2011 21:21

At the risk of sounding like a net mums reject ......
All you can do is trust yourself to instil the self confidence that these comments and whispers are water of a ducks back. All of this I'm sure your doing.

But honestly, when it comes to on here, just don't let the feckers get to you.

NinkyNonker · 09/02/2011 21:22

That's what I was thinking (didn't watch the programme cause the title hacked me off so I am a little ignorant), facial disfigurement isn't ugly surely? DH doesn't really watch TV and was on the internet when the ad came on, even he looked up in shock at the title.

hairylights · 09/02/2011 21:25

The blonde woman is ugly om the outside and uglier on the inside.
