I was talking to an old collegue the other day about food shopping and if hes noticed a price rise in his shopping bill.

He lives with his wife and their 3 year old son, i was shocked when he said his shopping bill is £100 a week every week! thats not including the occassional expensive week you know with washing powder or whatever.

My parents with no children (living at home) spends 150 a week-on what? seriously? dips? bloody expensive dips!

My shopping costs about 50 but often 30 a week for 2 adults and 2 children under 5. I have noticed my bill going up a bit, dont know if my son is eating more or vat rise.

do you shop weekly? whos bu, my collegue or me? where do you fit?

OMG, I think I'm spending far too much Blush
I spend approx £200 per week (for DH, baby DS and me). That includes everything - nappies, cleaning stuff, toiletries, approx £40 on wine. I think a lot of the money goes on meat though - I won't buy meat if it isn't free range - same for eggs, milk, etc. I try to buy organic stuff where I can. I also buy stuff like pine nuts - they're only a few pounds each, but if you have a few packets of that sort of thing in your shopping each week then it does add up. Sometimes I put in eg scented candles, which I suppose are unnecessary (but I do like them...)

We don't throw out much food (most of what gets binned is what DS has dropped on the floor - he is being weaned atm) so at least I suppose we aren't being wasteful with food.

I spend £60 - £70 a week in Tesco, for me and 2 dc, includes nappies for two children and all food for the entire week and toiletries, etc. We're vegetarian and none of us eat outside the house at all, so that covers breakfast and two cooked meals a day. Don't buy much alcohol, cook from scratch but buy a ready meal for the night I shop if there's a nice one on the discount shelf for under a pound.

I try to budget as much as possible, would love to be able to go to Lidl as well but don't have time, only have time for one quick run round Tesco a week. I do buy a few treats and bready stuff like muffins but want to lose weight and cut out the junk which I know will also reduce my shopping bill.

DH and I often daydream about when the day comes that we can wander around Waitrose selecting dainty morsels, luxury dips and tasty nibbles without worrying about the bill Grin

Currently we spend about £135 per week for 6 of us (including 2 hungry teens and various friends who visit throught the week). That does lunches for everyone throughout the week as well, as well as cat food, washing powder, mositurisers etc. I cook mostly from scratch although we do have the odd egg, chips and beans night and a takeaway on a Saturday Smile

I've tried buying meat from sainsbury's rather than Ocado but its shocking quality - i've tried everything from the cheap stuff to the organic - I'm not sure what they do to the organic chicken to be so chewy. However, Ocado quality of meat going down while prices going up. Butcher probably even more expensive than Ocado to be honest but will give him a go more often now.

I don't live near an Aldi anymore which is a shame as their cured meats were very cheap and just as good as Waitrose.

For two adults and 3 children 5 and under, we are around £150 per week. That doesn't include the washing powder, nappies etc. which we tend to buy at costco once a month at a spend of around £200 each time.
My own parents are around £250 per week, just for the two of them and one of my teenage brothers! Mum loves having people in though and we have a big family so she tends to buy for everyone and their dog's taste, just in case!
