to object to Prom night for Year 6'ers

DD and DS, 8 and 6, attend a large primary school in a nearby town. Yesterday, when picking them up, I heard a large groups of Mum's on the yard discussing the possibility of having a 'Prom' night for leavers in July. I heard limo's and ball dressed getting a mention. I really don't want this for my kids - they grow up far too quickly already. DH suggests (since I raged so much about it last night lol) that I go and see the Head to discuss it. AIBU?

YANBU.A party is fine, a ball with limos is ridiculous. They have 'debs dances' in Ireland for people leaving school (17-18 yr olds) and they have got soooo out of hand with kids spending hundreds of euro on dresses and getting beauty treatments and tans and hiring stretch limos and having big parties in their house before the leave to show everyone their dress. It's crazy.

nothing ascetic about a leaver's disco. Still lots of fun, dressing up in party clothes, dancing (have you seen 10/11 year olds dancing? LOL), hanging out with your mates....

Just don't want an Americanised Prom with a Prom dress and a Limo. It's the tacky crap that is associated with it. For 11 year olds.

And people mock My Bog Fat Gipsy Wedding!

I quite like prom for years 11 and above. DD's school doesn't have a culture of going over the top with limos etc and they all looked lovely (ok some girls a bit orange but thankfully mine have embraced the 'natural is good' ethos!)

Big improvement from my secondary school days when we had a leavers' mass! We did get to choose the readings and the hymns but I know what I would have preferred.

Oh yuck, YANBU.

A disco would be standard, picnic fun, waterfight FAB!
