..in view of some of the comments made by the man-at-the-helm recently? Inciting religious hatred, infringing upon the rights of the disabled, expecting people to contribute enthusiastically to Big Society. Wtf?

OP posts:
LadyThumb · 08/02/2011 10:59

When did he incite religious hatred? My son is disabled, and his rights have not been infringed.

Once upon a time we had a Big Society - where people looked out for their neighbours, and their children, and we actually had a 'society' that cared for others. We don't now!

Portofino · 08/02/2011 11:00

What LadyThumb said.

StarlightPrincess · 08/02/2011 11:00

How is he inciting religious hatred? By making a speech about an issue that people are concerned about?

Chil1234 · 08/02/2011 11:04

YABU. If anything, I'm more happy that we all finally woke up and realised what a lying bunch of incompetent weasels had been running the country into the ground and had the good sense to get rid of them.

KnittedBreast · 08/02/2011 11:13

what speech is this about racial hatred? do you have a link at all?

I hate the tories too, if they were running another country wed all be watching going "how awful"

Chil1234 · 08/02/2011 11:16

The OP is referring to the PM's speech last weekend about state multiculturalism having failed and about how we have to stop being so tolerant about extremist views for fear of causing cultural offence

Callisto · 08/02/2011 11:17

Racial hatred? Because he (quite rightly) said that multi-culturalism isn't working? Get a grip.

frgr · 08/02/2011 11:17

LadyThumb, I suggest you read this thread, it might knock those rosy tinted specs off you for a minute or two.

marmy55 · 08/02/2011 11:26

i think he is doing a good but difficult job, and tackling things that were brushed under Gordon's carpet for oh so long

LadyThumb · 08/02/2011 11:26

I read it.........and?

solo · 08/02/2011 11:31

I hate them all Angry

ambarth · 08/02/2011 11:35

YANBU. They really have gone on the ideological rampage haven't they?

scottishmummy · 08/02/2011 11:38

cameron didnt incite religious hatred.you dont like his comments?well that doesnt equate to incite religious hatred

FerociousBeast · 08/02/2011 11:38

YANBU

KnittedBreast · 08/02/2011 11:38

how is cameron doing a good job?

Is this anything to do with the asian males and white teenage girls thing?

or is he arguing that a lack of integration leads to terrorism within the uk?

or am i missing the point?

what is he suggesting if multiculturalism isnt working?

Chil1234 · 08/02/2011 11:43

@Knittedbreast... it was a speech made at the weekend addressing two issues. Multiculturalism failing (or how we acheive better integration if you prefer) and the problem with turning a blind eye to extreme behaviour that we wouldn't normally tolerate because we don't want to be seen as racist.

Whether the coalition are doing a good job more generally or not we can judge in a year or two's time.

rosieposey · 08/02/2011 11:43

YADNBU!

BaggedandTagged · 08/02/2011 11:46

"Is this anything to do with the asian males and white teenage girls thing?"

That was Jack Straw wasn't it?

marmy55 · 08/02/2011 11:46

other world leaders have expressed exactly the same view, i dont recall them being labelled as inciting racial hatred.

queribus · 08/02/2011 11:47

Look on the bright side - at least he hasn't taken us into another war yet ...

BaggedandTagged · 08/02/2011 11:53

The major elephant in the room is that it's very hard to defend liberal values using liberal values if liberalism is, by definition, a "live and let live/ anything goes" approach.

It hands it to the extremists/ radicals on a plate if liberals are not prepared to come out and say "this behaviour is not part of our cultural legacy and we are not going to accept it" in defense of said liberal values for fear of being perceived as racist.

It's an age old problem- how to defend moderate politics/ liberal social values from erosion by more radical views without resorting to the tactics of those trying to do the eroding.

the ongoing debate re Burkas is a good example of the conundrum.

frgr · 08/02/2011 11:56

LadyThumb, you don't think looking back admiringly to eras where women's labour was either unpaid (caring for ill, disabled or elderly relatives, looking after others kids after school, etc) or poorly paid (and in many cases still is) isn't the very definition of having rosy tinted specs on?

This so-called caring society people look back on still had a cost, albeit not one to society in general, but to specific generations of women. But let's not pretend that it was free.

coccyx · 08/02/2011 11:57

He is doing a great job, having to make unpopular decisions to get us out of the Labour mess.

Greythorne · 08/02/2011 11:58

baggedandtagged
Quite.

LadyThumb · 08/02/2011 12:20

fgr - I didn't think we were talking about feminism and equality!
