to want to press charges against my thieving cleaner

She's taken our wedding rings, pearl necklace, diamond earrings, 2 ipods, camera, £50 worth of cash, possibly more. She just confessed to (most of it) handed back my engagement ring and given recipts for some other items that are currently in the porn shop. Looks like she has been taking bits slowly over the last few weeks, I am pretty sure most of it (including wedding rings) we wont get back.

I live in Costa Rica by the way. DH doesnt want to press charges because she "might get 15 years"

whilst I dont want to live with sending someone to prison on my conscience, I feel so angry and dont want to let her off scott free, especially as this is not the first time a cleaner has robbed me. (last time I did nothing) Grrrrrr, give me back my stuff!!!

Poor you! I would try and press charges. I wouldn't make her clean for nothing because I wouldn't want anything to do with her, let alone have her in my house, after that.

Also, who's to say she would follow through with her part of the bargain anyway - she's a thief after all! Also, to steal wedding rings is the lowest of the low - she knows that. She obviously had every intention of robbing you before she set foot inside your house which is why she gave you false details.

Like a pp said. I wouldn't go to the police as your cleaner is obviously desperate to risk 15 years in prison. If it was the UK I would definitely go to the police.
From now on I would either manage without a cleaner or keep my valuables under lock and key (and take the key with me).

Mummya I am so Angry at her! Not unreasonable at all, you should be able to leave your things around your home without fear of it bring taken by the cleaner. I do hope you get your wedding rings back at least x

I'd definitely press charges. Otherwise she will do the same to the next unsuspecting person.
Also your insurance will only pay up if you have a police report....
