Why do you all have to call your family dear/darling? It makes you all sound bonkers and if you have to keep telling everyone they are dear or darling it implies there is some doubt?

mutznutz · 03/02/2011 11:26

I've travelled far enough Baroque I've had internet access for around 20 years and have still only come across it on MN.

marmynags · 03/02/2011 11:27

you can't use some and then be irritated by others

says who

cantspel · 03/02/2011 11:30

They use some on the martin lewis site but only really on the family type boards. The more topic based and the Arms dont tend to use them.

diddl · 03/02/2011 11:50

I don´t use it as it´s too twee for me.

So YANBU!

Niecie · 03/02/2011 12:06

The first time my husband saw himself referred to as DH he thought it meant dick head. DH as an acronym holds a very dear place in my heart since then. :o

To me DD was a direct debit, DS was a hand held games console.

Pesha · 03/02/2011 13:49

First time my DP saw DP he thought I was writing about double penetration!!

Shows his experience of the internet!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 03/02/2011 13:53

hehe - not quite the same - but when I was about 11/12 my brother saw me stick 2 fingers up f*off style.

He decided to tell on me, and told/showed my mum what I'd done.

She said "but there's nothing wrong with that dear - it's the Victory sign"

I still remember walking off smirking to myself sticking 2 fingers up at my brother right there next to my mum Blush (it was several years before she meant what it actually meant Grin)

Lamorna · 03/02/2011 14:07

I don't like it at all, but if you post you have to follow the conventions.

I do and have done for around 20 years Madam (feels ancient now) but still, I've only ever come across it here.

nickelthenaughtybutnicefairy · 03/02/2011 14:14

yes, my mum loves the Victory sign, too.

and it does mean victory in that instance, too!
Grin

TallulahdoesthehulainHawaii · 03/02/2011 14:32

I keep using the abbreviations in real life.

It's become a really bad habit and the look on people's faces says it all.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 03/02/2011 15:43

mutznutz - we must have been using very different places on the internet then Grin - as we had dial-up in 1993 (we were the Envy of all my school mates..........though the lack of TV kind of spoilt the effect Hmm) at home and I've seen them around all over the place.

Herminator · 17/07/2014 19:50

Well, the thing is, TPs should be allowed to express their thoughts too. Did I say TPs? I meant Total Plebs.

magpiegin · 17/07/2014 19:57

Annoys me too. Does it really take that long to type husband or son? I have only seen it on here and twitter. People get annoyed on her about text speak but abbreviating other things is ok?

sherazade · 17/07/2014 20:04

It's quicker to type and I rather like it but sometimes seems oddly oxymoronic when you read posts like 'my dh is an absolute bastard / I can no longer bear my dm and want her out of my life/ my dsis has ruined my life'. etc etc

60sname · 17/07/2014 20:11

I'm sure even the OP has adapted in the 3.5 years since the thread was posted Grin

QisforQcumber · 17/07/2014 20:16

I do it because everyone else does it. Damn, never considered myself conformist. Hmm

QisforQcumber · 17/07/2014 20:18

Zombie thread? Must learn to read the post dates!
