Is it a bit rich to judge someone over their washing up when you have a dishwasher?

MIL is coming over later to baby sit while DP, FIL and I look at cars. I do tidy up, as much as I can with a 2 month old son who is so cute I cant tear myself away!

DP said to me before he left, wash up. (Which I always do anyway!) Hes text me since, please wash up, mum will notice.*

*notice = turn her nose up

Shes got a dishwasher?! I resent that hes reminded me twice when I do it anyway and that she'll 'notice' when she doesnt actually do anything but load a machine!

yanbu
i have always left the breakfast and lunch dishes until dinnertime
when i had a dishwasher, i still left them 'til dinnertime, as i'm sure your mil does, but no-one could see.

no dishwasher currently, so they sit on the side.
i now appear more slatternly, but my housework habits are unchanged Confused.

jenroy29 · 02/02/2011 11:14

I think that putting your dirty dishes in the dishwasher then leaving them there until you have a full load is a bit wierd.

renlovesyou · 02/02/2011 11:15

My mum comes over and washes up for me Grin

Why can she not do the same?! Or am I really opushing my luck?

I never understand why people can't keep their place clean and tidy just because they have a baby.

They do sleep, they do park it and do nothing most of the time at two months old.

LaWeaselMys · 02/02/2011 11:18

Really? Why? Keeps the surfaces clear to use.

I agree, anyway.

renlovesyou · 02/02/2011 11:18

Fabby... thats just it. It IS clean and tidy! But his fam judge everything by the washing up.

The toilet could be filling over with crap, but as long as the dishes are done, its fine!

Depends what kind of baby you have fabby, my house was really clean at that age but if you have a limpet it's not the same at all.

AlicesWonderland · 02/02/2011 11:20

surely you are saving money and water by waiting till lunch time and doing them all in one go? Wink

And also gas if you have a boiler that would be used to heat the boiler up....seems to me you're just eco friendly

FortunateHamster · 02/02/2011 11:21

Fabby are you judging everyone by the babies you know? Because mine has always been a terrible daytime sleeper and it is near impossible to keep on top of the house during the day around him.

OP, YANBU

meantosay · 02/02/2011 11:22

Why is it weird Jenroy? It would be hugely wasteful to put on the dishwasher with just a few cups and forks in it.

YANBU, we don't have a dishwasher and my kitchen always looks a mess. Leave it, maybe she will take the hint and do it for you Grin

bubblewrapped · 02/02/2011 11:27

In winter I dont mind a few dirty pots stacked in the kitchen.. I certainly dont rush to wash up as soon as we have finished a meal.. but in the summer it has to be done straight away as I really cant stand attracting flies into the house.

And I certainly wouldnt use the dishwasher unless it was full, as that is just a waste of electricity.

renlovesyou · 02/02/2011 11:28

His family are horrible when it comes to this stuff. His sister came over once and said when are you going to tidy up. I said when you get some effing manners. And that was only because there was washing up on the drainer...

I always wash up as soon as we've finished eating. The only exception may be breakfast, as I don't eat it, so I leave the kids to get on with it while I get ready for work. Then we rush out to school run/work and sometimes I don't have time. But I always do them first thing when we get home in the evening. And I'd definitely do them if someone was coming over while I was out.

I would resent being told to do them by a whiny partner who's scared of what his mummy will think.

clevercloggs · 02/02/2011 11:36

you see if this was me, i would ignore it and leave the washing up, and keep on ignoring it until they got fed up with commenting

renlovesyou · 02/02/2011 11:40

I want to break free by Queen came on at this very moment.

I'm always amused by people who get judgemental about washing up when their own dirty stuff is stacked in a dishwasher. It all amounts to the same thing - washing up yet to be done and quite possibly, theirs has been festering away for much longer!

I do, as it happens, do my washing up as I go along but then I don't have a 2 month old baby.

ChaoticAngelofAnarchy · 02/02/2011 11:55

"They do sleep, they do park it and do nothing most of the time at two months old."

I wish someone had told my DS that Grin

Unless a house was truly dirty I wouldn't dream of having judgey thoughts and I'd never actually say anything outloud even if I didn't

We rarely wash up immediately after a meal as when you only get 3 hours at home between getting home and going to bed, who wants to spend them at the sink doing chores?

Laquitar · 02/02/2011 12:08

I used to hate washing up, i'd rather clean the toilet and the whole house than washing the dishes. I dont know why, maybe the standing up in the same place.

OP, buy a dishwasher, its life saving Grin

Your dh is a bit odd to panick about his mother 'noticing' the dishes.

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 02/02/2011 12:08

Someone has to say it....

Why couldn't he wash up before he left if it's so important for him to impress his Mama??

5DollarShake · 02/02/2011 12:13

Yeah, what happened to his perfectly good pair of hands? Hmm

Gawd, this is where the OP's going to say he lost them both in an accident....
