that way nobody would have an excuse to leave piles of toxic, disgusting dog filth on public streets, beaches and parks

I also like the "dog DNA database" idea

OP posts:

It's not pet owners who are hysterical about their pets. It's people like Longstocking2 and the OP who are hysterical and actually quite bizarre.

I love it when posters just pick a random percentage out of the bag to justify whatever rant they are on!

I hope it's a really big sloppy steaming turd that you fall into, Longstocking2. Grin

Again what sort of hell holes do you people live in? I do not live in the best neighbourhood and I see plenty of dogs about. I cannot even think of one instance where I have seen dog poo in my street. Very rarely see it in the surrounding streets. My DD goes to school and the park and has never been jumped on by an out of control dog.

I have a dog. I clean up. I would pay for a licence. She is worth it. I have a cat who does not get out. Very good pedigree and unusual so would probably get nicked.

Pet ownership gives a lot of joy to the majority of children. Obviously not the children of neurotic harpies. My ASD nephew who is 4 has come on a treat since he got a puppy.

I have never yet met a person I liked who disliked animals. Don't trust them.

Another dog rant - how original

cybbo · 01/02/2011 16:58

IME living near large blocks of flats means loads of dog shit on pavements as they have no gardens for their creatures to crap in

It is horrendous where I live-5 mins form Richmond Park- and folk let their dogs shit in there all over th place

On that noteI think they should be exercised in a separate area in all public spaces

CatIsSleepy · 01/02/2011 16:58

'I agree, I have a v responsible dog owning friend whose dog had a massive runny poo on the walk to school recently, with the best will in the world no one's picking that up.'

hmm longstocking i wonder if she walked it outside our house because the other week it looked like a dog with diarrhoea had been past...poor old dh ended up clearing it up. That was pretty unpleasant.

not sure i would ban dogs on that basis but i do wish more owners would clear up after their dogs-it's pretty bad where I live

MothershipG · 01/02/2011 17:25

roland ^"um, there is no logic in that whatsoever, and certainly not "my logic"

children grow up to be adults and make their own choices, develop themselves independently of their parents and background - how can you say that people produce children who contribute nothing? You can't possibly know what a child's future holds.

A dog, on the other hand, just eats shits and pulls daft faces. No great loss."^

Are you saying we have no influence on how our children grow up? So all this parenting I'm doing is a complete waste of time! Confused

Owners are responsible for their pets, you argued that because some owners are rubbish all dogs should be destroyed. So how is it not following your logic?

Please accept my maiden Biscuit

spiderfrog · 01/02/2011 17:27

If you think we should ban dogs should we also ban cats and birds? they leave shite all over the place and while we are at it maybe we should ban all farm animals and wildlife!

GrimmaTheNome · 01/02/2011 17:41

Bet your referendum wouldn't get a majority though. Even people who don't have a pet have often enjoyed other peoples.

When I take my sausage for a walk, he spreads a little happiness - all sorts of people smile, stop for a chat.

He does not spread poo. He's cleaned up a nasty mess of squashed Twix from near the bus-stop this afternoon.

He deters cats from murdering birds.

He is a Good Boy.

Longstocking2 · 01/02/2011 22:37

Look I KNOW it's unreasonable to ban dogs and cats, I feel unreasonable about it! It's a mumsnet rant! That's partly what this website is for imho. Of course it's ridiculous, we Brits do love animals more than people it's an unassailable fact.

I love dogs, believe it or not, I really love them and cats. I grew up with them. (But we had a lot of outside space so our pets genuinely didn't impinge on other people I cannot resent pets who work or who live in rural areas and don't impinge on other people). But now I'm a grown up I really resent the price the rest of us pay for other people's pets. The cats are horrendous and poo all over our garden no matter what we do in terms of deterrents.

And three close friends of mine have dogs who jump up a lot, my f has dogs who jump up on me and my children. I HATE the jumping up thing but the owners just beam at you as if you find it as adorable as they do. No i don't. The elephant in the room is that the function of pets for too many people is as a baby of some kind, consequently they are indulged rather than trained. They behave poorly because their function is not clear enough to owner of pet. I can't resent a really really well trained dog but they I genuinely don't see that many and believe me I see a LOT of dogs round here. I live in an area near some forest very popular with dog walkers. So the open spaces around it (and the roads leading up to it for many) are considered open plan dog toilet, even the good people don't clear up in the forest and the rest of us sucker-mugs just want our children to be free to run about, climb trees etc. FORGETABAHTIT! unless you're happy to clean up shite every time you go.

So god bless you and your pets, I just wish that fewer people had them because they are costly for the rest of us however much you think they're not. My f has his dogs sleep on his bed.... gross gross gross imo.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 01/02/2011 23:09

Beertricks - your dog looks gorgeous - nearly as lovely as my brown lab! WinkGrin

I would happily support big fines for the owners who don't pick up after their dogs. But I'd like to see equally big fines for anyone who drops litter - I see far more litter than dog poo when I am out with the dog. And it probably costs far more to clear up said litter than to clean up after dogs.

iwastooearlytobeayummymummy · 01/02/2011 23:15

OP you are officially a genius!!!!

I have a dog, I pick up when I see where she has dumped, but sometimes if she is running off the lead in 'dog park' i can never find the stuff, especially in long grass/bushes

YANBU and are worthy of a nobel prize IMO

If only pet insurance would cover it.

lololizzy · 01/02/2011 23:17

cybbo i live near there too. Horrendous.
Last year i'd cleaned/polished my boots and stepped out front door straight into fresh pile of poo Shock
