to feel a little stung that FIL gave this to DH for his birthday?

FIL gave DH the "Adrian Mole: The Prostrate Years" by Sue Townsend for his 40th. I feel a bit stung by it, like he's making some sort of comment on our lives... plus there's the whole bit about the protagonist's ex-girlfriend, and we recently had a go-round about DH being in contact with one of his... that's probably why it bothers me. But still, don't you think it's a bit insulting (both to DH and to me)? Or am I being crazy?

What bubblewrapped said. I loved the books as a kid and always get given the new ones.

Carrots, am uncorking as I type.
Hecate, last year he gave me a second-hand, porcelain ashtray. DH and I do not and have never smoked! For Christmas, he gave DS (age 4) a ziplock bag of dates. Really, all true.

YABU DD2 bought it for DH at Christmas. No office was meant or taken.

Soups · 29/01/2011 22:55

But I'm sure you're very nice and having a minor crazy moment Smile. Much better to have a moment here and get it out the way.

sue52 · 29/01/2011 22:56

Oops offense not office.

Well there you go then, after the bag of dates & 2nd hand ashtray for non-smokers, the Adrian Mole book is a great improvement, don't you think?

spidookly · 30/01/2011 07:31

What do you think he was implying by the second hand ashtray? :o

Was DD OK about the dates? That's quite a message!

YABU. They are great books. I read the first ones when I was a teen and now that Adrian is 40, I am reading them as a 40 year old. You would be very hard pushed to read a double meaning into this. You are being way over sensitive. Its just a very good read. Maybe FIL remembers your DH liking the earlier books in the series.

My mum once bought me 'Forget you had a daughter' fab book but i dont think she thought it through.

Or maybe she did!

Dont worry Daisy, you read a little bit too much into it, but its very innocent!

YABU. I gave this book to dh for his last birthday. I plan on reading it myself.
