We've known each other 4yrs.

I like some of them more than others. I like their kids and the fact that all our kids play happily together.

When we're together though I find them (the parents) materialistic, competitive, boring, cliquey..

Today the way they were talking about how much other peoples loft extensions must cost, the amount someone else's car must have cost, much they were spending on holidays abroad, and they were openly quizzing me about how much mortgage me and DH will be approved for (trying to buy a house). This made me quite cross.

All this talk about money and competitiveness makes me WANT TO PUKE.

I felt depressed after I saw them today. Mostly because they've become my main friends since having DC.

I reckon I need new friends. Or am I BU?

"a bunch of leftie kaftan wearing bean eaters who thought they knew more than the professionals"

Much as I know where you are coming from, if it wasn't for organisations like the NCT, we'd still be giving birth lying on our backs with our legs in stirrups, pushing our babies uphill.

It was the NCT who said "show us the evidence that this is in the mother and the babies best interests medically".

Etc.

I went to NCt for ante-natal - not for social jockeying Hmm Luckily our group were lovely and I'm friends with all of them. But then I have the nicest buggy/house and child Grin

"... in reality we have nuances, likes, dislikes.being mums isn't in itself a unifying experience. we aren't homogeneous mass just because we became mums.the big con is the marketing, merchandising and push that as mummies we are all one"

I wish I'd seen that post seven years ago, scottishmummy

It's ok, I'm studying, will get a new career, DP keeping wolf from door etc.

NCT is so hit and miss, I think it's a great idea to volunteer for something different and meet new people, good for your mental health.

chins up and best wishes to you normanT

And I have some fascinating women, some working, some at home, funny, intelligent and who have no idea and don't care how much their neighbour's BMW cost.

dont cling on just because they are mums. isn't a given you all need to remain associated because of nct and babies.not all women get on.no big deal, find folk you gel with

My NCT group is great- Don't know how I would have survived the first year without them! Def. wouldn't have stuck at the breastfeeding without them all doing it with me!
