AIBU?

to think that people who let their dogs shit on pavements should be placed in stocks

After having to hop, skip and jump the dog shit on my way to the local shops this morning (while pushing a pushchair) I don't think a fine is enough of a deterrent. Might placing the owners who don't clean up after their dogs in stocks and allowing the rest of us to throw rotten tomatoes (or dog shit) at them be more effective?

I am seriously considering stapling up signs in our local park saying if my child steps in one more dog shit, I will lay rat poison under every shrub and kill every fucking dog in the neighbourhood.

I can't see why a dog licence shouldn't cost 1k/year, to fund inspectors and street cleaning.

I'm forever ranting about it as well - the people who look all around to see if anyone is watching before grudgingly going across to pick up if they spot me.

I watched someone do this from my upstairs window a few months back. He didn't think anyone was looking, so walked away. He got a bit of a shock when I opened the window and shouted that I'd seen him, and was he aware that his dog had just shat on a playing field regularly used by children. He went and picked it up then Grin

And if I find the person who has recently started abandoning little green bags all round the area, I shall be having words too Angry

I thought of this thread today as was driving past some shops, stopped at the traffic light and saw a chav let their dog do a massive crap right in the middle of the pavement outside the shop they had just come out of..my mum was ranting from the back seat and we wanted to shout from the window but we were too many lanes away from the pavement and lights then went green

I was so angry! And yes...I will stick my neck out here and say it does seem to be the chavs that let their dogs shit everywhere - as far as I can see!

This is something that has been making me angry on the school run a lot recently, it seems to be getting worse in our village. I cannot believe how many times I have to say 'mind the poo' in a ten minute walk.

It's clearly something a lot of us feel strongly about. I have definitely got to the point of deciding to take action. As someone else has suggested on here, surely there is something that can be done? I was thinking that there should be some passive but effective forms of protest.

I remember a thread on here a couple of years ago when people talked about what they did to try and counteract it. Someone suggested spraying the poo in fluorescent paint (which I think washed away in rain?), or I seem to remember someone else said they put little flags in it (maybe not such a great idea if toddlers try to pick them up, ack). Whilst this does seem a bit revolting, I suppose it has the twofold purpose of 1. pointing out to people where it is so that they can avoid it and 2. perhaps drawing attention to it and shaming people into clearing it up in future (yeah right).

Has anyone got any experience of effectively combatting the people who allow their dogs' shit to remain on pavements? I think we'd all be v interested to hear it. I am seriously considering taking action, so if anyone else has any bright ideas, perhaps we all could!

Well I had the idea of a YouTube name and shame campaign where if possible, we film the dirty feckers at it and then post on a YouTube wall of shame or similar....but we would prob get sued!

Chances of catching their faces pretty slim as well!

I like the idea but not sure I'd sit through a film of randoms in the hope of seeing someone I recognised - photos stuck to local lampposts would probably be more effective (and less easy to trace Wink)

I used to have to dodge horse poo every day on my way to the shops. I really don't understand why it's ok to let your horse leave a massive pile of shit on the path (which is not a bridleway, just a path) and leave it there for everyone else to deal with.

YADBU - the stocks are too good for them. Had to stop Dc2 from running through a HUGE crap today - it's disgusting.

A friend in the city lives in a highrise and there's a man who ALWAYS lets his dog pee in the lift - it's absolutely horrific as it washes around as the lift goes up and down IYSWIM and stinks as it's a complete male.

Stocks are far too good for lazy, anti-social shits like this. I should be able to go and take a crap in their house and see how they like dodging it!

That's a good point Dita...I mean watching dogs shit is not a good past time, although I am sure there are people out there that would have a fetish for it

I quite like the idea of shame posters cos they would be more likely to see them as they would be in the area they walk their dog and others would recognise them...

Mind you, I never see who is letting their dogs crap on the school run pathways...Hmm

In some parts of the USA you have to teach your dog to toilet on newspaper, so the pavements don't even get smeared, and you can get really large fines, plus ostracised if you don't comply...

Oh bb99 that's a good idea about the newspaper.

Our dog has a tendency to diarrhoea and countless times we've tried to scrape liquid poo from the pavement. Think I'll try the newspaper idea.

OP YANBU

I really hope you're not. Firstly, what if another animal or even a child gets to it first, secondly you could get in a lot of trouble, thirdly you have other options - how about spending the money on a camera instead of rat poison?
And fourthly, just no, no, no.

Yanbu.

I have been known to forget poo bags on occasion. There starts the fun of trying to pick it up with leaves/standing next to it looking plaintive until a dog owner I see in the distance is close enough for me to ask for a spare poo bag.

Thing is, you can't stop an animal from having a dump, but all dog owners should always carry poop bags with them at all times. FFS, your dog has an arsehole, so it stands to reason that they might just go for a fudge brownie, when you take it our for a walk. Being prepared is the way forward.

Oh, and I'd gladly have my taxes raised an extra 5-10p to have a DNA database to catch the owners who don't pick up after their dogs and give them a nasty big fine. That could go back into paying for and maintaining the database.

Besides, in Tesco, you can get 300 nappy bags for 35-40p a pack. So for less than a quid, you'll not run out in a hurry, and any dog owners have no excuse for not buying any.

I always do my utmost to pick up after my dogs and always have a big bottle of water to wash away any runny poop that's left after I scoop the majority of diarrhoea (very rare occasion) up in a bag. One thing I've found is that giving dry food instead of wet food makes the poop more solid and easier to pick all/most of it up.

White dog poo is down to the amount of bone in the dogs diet - 30 years ago lots of dogs ate bones regularly - white dog poo - then people stopped giving dogs bones, no white dog poo, then people started feeding multicoloured grain filled sugar filled cheap crap to dogs (wagg, bakers, frolic, asda hero etc)... and that gives you ORANGE dog poo that is resistant to rain, wind, snow, ice, nuclear bombs, etc...

I have five dogs, they eat a raw diet and eat raw bones and produce.. white dog poo - it goes white after about 4 hours and turns to dust after about 12. I never leave poo on public footpaths, pavements etc (I do sometimes leave it deep in the undergrowth and nettles in places its not feasible to pick up from, or stick and flick as per some woodland walk guidance).

I would hang draw and quarter people who leave shit in the street, the same as those who spit, leave nappies, leave broken glass, vomit, or any other heinous thing I havent yet thought of.

I use a wheelchair so take the horror of poo on pushchair wheels and times that by a million trillion - thats someone elses poo (dog, child, adult, fox, whatever, I dont care) or SPIT... on my HANDS.. my FUCKING HANDS...

I am very ragey when I see people leaving any offensive material on the pavement. Very ragey indeed!

Hi all

If you live in Islington, there is a marvellous app called Clean Islington which you can use to report stuff like dog shit, fly tipping etc and the council come out and clear it up. I use it about five times a day.

I'm hoping that, should enough shit get reported in certain areas, a SWAT team will jump out at the buggers who let their dogs shit outside my children's nursery and prosecute them.
