AIBU?

to think that people who let their dogs shit on pavements should be placed in stocks

After having to hop, skip and jump the dog shit on my way to the local shops this morning (while pushing a pushchair) I don't think a fine is enough of a deterrent. Might placing the owners who don't clean up after their dogs in stocks and allowing the rest of us to throw rotten tomatoes (or dog shit) at them be more effective?

Someone I know told me someone she knows did pick up some dog sit and smear it on the back of a bloke in the park who had refused to pick up his dog's shit (and sworn) when asked politely.

Have to agree damned anti social and I speak as a dog owner. Our village has free dog poo bags but cant say its made a damned bit of difference, especially to the mutt who craps outside my lounge window/half way up my drive Angry

Yanbu. I say that as the owner of 2 dogs.

YANBU. I speak as the owner of a dog and two small children. It's not difficult to pick it up. Don't understand why people pick it up and then hang it on a bush like some kind of decoration.

a fine isn't enough of a deterrent - no one believes they will get fined because the likelihood is they won't. a rogues gallery in the local paper might be more effective.

I want to say hurrah to JLC's shit-wiper but what she did prob counts as assault.

I know, Hero. Everyone I have told has said
Oh my god!!!, then Brilliant!, then - how did he (it was a man) not get away without being beaten up? But he didn't - the man was too shocked

I find the chief perpetrators of this in our area are elderly people who let their dog out in the street after dark and dont go out themselves.

They dont have to face the mess all over the path in the morning when DCs are going to school. It only takes 2 - 3 owners doing this in a street and the place is covered.

It enrages me.

Dog plop is disgusting.

The other day I got some plop on the front wheel of the buggy, so went onto the grass to try and get it off and then found to my disgust and horror BOTH the back wheels had been covered also with different dumps.

How can these owners be so inconsiderate? Suppose one of our children was to fall face first into this filth - there's a trip up to the hospital straight away!!! Angry

Agree with poster about putting owners in the stocks, but may I suggest we don't use rotten toms, eggs, etc but fresh or old feaces - that might make them be more responsible in the future.

i agree with you.
i have a dog and i buy a box of scented nappy bags (100 for £1) and use them it is cheaper than buying "proper dog poop bags".
people who dont clean up after their dogs should not own 1, if you didn't change and clean your baby when he/she had a shit you would be done for neglect the same should go for dog owners aswell.
it only takes a few seconds to clean up after your dog but it takes ages to clean a carpet Wink

Chances are some mumsnetters are guilty of not picking up their dog's shit.

I am sick of the sound of my own voice bellowing "Watch the poo!"

I am in favour of rubbing owners noses in poo and if that doesn't work - a lifetime ban.

YANBU. It was like a bloody obsticle course on the way to school last week. We have lots of 'no fouling' signs up around our village but it still makes no difference Angry

Yes beenbeta, I remonstrated with an elderly woman yesterday because she didn't clean up after her dog. I felt a little bit guilty because she was old, but I reckon that letting your dog shit outside someone's gate was as antisocial 20 years ago as it is now.

I am a dog owner too and it is the bain of our lives!! A dog gets rid of cats shitting in your garden btw Wink We have a little green near us and have now reguarly seen someone letting their 3 legged greyhound out on it's own to do it's business then hop home. next time I am going to follow it home to find out then report them as I am sick to death of it! I had thought about collecting it's pooh up and following the dog and leaving it all on their doorstep, with a note returning their left behind item.

It is dirty and lazy and in the words of DS naughty and yak

We have a few people round here who just turf their dogs out to walk themselves Hmm

I have a friend who carries out surrepticious survaillance - she runs a youth scheme and the local residence let their dogs free on the pitch the children use for football/baseball/other games. The youth workers help - they take photos on their phones of people standing on the field as if the other end of the lead (attached to fouling dog)has nothing to do with the bit they have in their hand!

When DS was still in his pram I used to just hose it down after every trip as the stuff was just impossible to avoid. Maybe we should just let our kids shit wherever the urge takes them...

YANBU it's vile, irresponsible and disgusting. If people who own dogs can't be bothered then DON'T HAVE A DOG.....as you can see I can't stand it. Now I have seen that some people think it's ok to throw their little plastic bags of dog shit on the side of the road. Obviously they think they have done their job by just picking it up. Too much to ask to put it in the bin. My parents live in France and it's 100 times worse there....

I think it's fucking disgusting and actually makes me hate dogs even though I know they're not all bad.

I also HATE it when people let their dogs run up to your kids and say "they're just saying hello!" like it's an acceptable thing to do. My kids are on the short side and a bloody great dog bearing down on DD1 scares her to death. Amazingly it's quite often people who are out with their own kids and the dog, can't believe some people can be so irresponsible.

YANBU. I am fuming today as some disgusting person has let their dog do a trail of poo in the strip of grass that everyone living in the street has to walk across to get to their parked cars. Absolutely no excuse and I have no sympathy for elderly owners who are too infirm to pick up after their own dog either.

My dog will not shit in his own garden, only outside, I however take bags and always pick up his shit.

YANBU

I am profoundly deaf and I lipread - my eyes are my ears and although the chances of dog shit being infected with the blindness causing bug (can't remember its name now!) is very small, it still fills me with dread when cleaning it off shoes etc

The school run is an assualt course of dodging dog shit and one time, DS stepped in it with both shoes - I spent 30mins crouched over the toilet scrubbing it out with toothbrush and bleach

Its farking vile and I wish something could be done to stop it!

YANBU. I don't understand how spitting is as bad though. I'd far rather tread in spit than shit Confused

When we drove down to see DMIL for Christmas, it was dark and about -10 when we arrived. As we were unloading the car, there was a dog whimpering and whining on someone's doorstep for about ten minutes. I knocked on the door, rang the bell and eventually phoned the number on his collar to let the owner know that her dog really wanted to come in. At the time I was just fucked off that someone had left their dog outside in frickin' subzero temperatures, but presumably she'd just chucked him out for a shit because it was too cold for her to be arsed to walk him properly Angry

But presumably some people think it's reasonable -- so where are they ?

I do like the idea of snipers with a DNA database.

Stocks, with faeces thrown at them for 1st offence perhaps.
