In thinking this is f*cking cheeky?

So today I received a load of Phoneix Trading crap through the post (catalogue, sample, orer form etc). As I opened it I thought this is odd as I have never signed up to anything or shown any interest in it but my name and address were handwritten on the envelope.

Anyway I read the compliment slip with it asking if I would like to buy anything and it is from one of the Mums from DD's class. She is the class rep so has all our contact details for the class list. And she has used them to spam us all to try and make money.

I am a bit pissed off to be honest.

Is this an OK thing to do or a blatant piss take?

It's a blatant pisstake. She should have asked if anyone was interested and taken names of those who were.

earwicga · 27/01/2011 22:09

She's only trying to make a living, like us all.

Just put it in the bin and move on.

JamieLeeCurtis · 27/01/2011 22:09

I'd be annoyed myself.

pantaloons · 27/01/2011 22:09

I think she is taking the piss, surely she has agreed to some sort of privacy agreement through school? And if not she is still just plain wrong.

Catsmamma · 27/01/2011 22:09

it's totally not right if she has your details in any official capacity

but if you handed them over to make life easier for pta/party invites/sundry school nonsense then it just incredibly rude and ill mannered!

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 27/01/2011 22:10

Well they do say make good use of any contacts you have.

You don't have to buy from her and tbh I don't see it as much different from her posting an avon book through the door.

If you're interested in buying anything you could always suggest some of the procceeds go to school

mumbar · 27/01/2011 22:10

Bit of a piss take, but I wouldn't be too concerned myself unless she has given the company itself the details. Then I'd be pissed off as they may sell it on.......etc.

TheSkiingGardener · 27/01/2011 22:11

Don't think it's technically allowed tbh. But not worth getting your knickers in a twist over. I'd just bin it.

Hassled · 27/01/2011 22:11

It's a blatant piss-take. That's pretty bad.

nikki1978 · 27/01/2011 22:12

It is not in an official capacity no.

I understand that earwicga I just think it is cheeky. I did Pampered Chef for a while but would not have done this - I only sent info to people who I had spoken to that were interested.

she has absolutley no right to do that.

i think i would ask other mums if they too recieved one and take a poll of how people feel about it.

Personally i would want her removed from any position where she could access ersonal information seeing as she has proven that she is not responsible with it

JamieLeeCurtis · 27/01/2011 22:13

Yes, I think what mumbar says concerns me the most - that you are now maybe on a database.

nikki1978 · 27/01/2011 22:13

Anyway I am not getting too het up over it. DD is using it all for her craft stuff (cutting out the pretty pics) so I suppose I should be grateful Grin

This, nothing to get your knickers in a twist about at all, chill out and if you're not interested throw it away

LoveMyGirls · 27/01/2011 22:15

It wouldn't bother me, I think small business' need all the help they can get and it doesn't hurt for you to not be interested and pop it in the bin, if you had been interested and maybe some of the other mums have been then it helps her to earn a living.

Booandpops · 27/01/2011 22:15

It wouldnt bother me. Not worth worrying about.

Beamur · 27/01/2011 22:15

I got some lovely wrapping paper from them at Christmas...

YANBU, that's not on!

nikki1978 · 27/01/2011 22:17

Ooh crap I hope she isn't an MNer! My name on here is not subtle!

KalokiMallow · 27/01/2011 22:18

Surely there's an element of going against Data Protection here? You gave her your details for one purpose without consent to use them for another. Companies get in trouble for that, and if she is selling things as a business then she should be bound by the same rules.

AuntiePickleBottom · 27/01/2011 22:18

i would be fuming tbh i give all my details to the school and expect them to remain confidently.

my son see the child doctor every few weeks and i have to sign everytime.

AuntiePickleBottom · 27/01/2011 22:19

...the school send any info about my son
