In thinking this is f*cking cheeky?

So today I received a load of Phoneix Trading crap through the post (catalogue, sample, orer form etc). As I opened it I thought this is odd as I have never signed up to anything or shown any interest in it but my name and address were handwritten on the envelope.

Anyway I read the compliment slip with it asking if I would like to buy anything and it is from one of the Mums from DD's class. She is the class rep so has all our contact details for the class list. And she has used them to spam us all to try and make money.

I am a bit pissed off to be honest.

Is this an OK thing to do or a blatant piss take?

Wouldn't bother me personally.

And if its anything like our school I wouldn't be too quick to remover her as class rep or you'll have a nightmare trying to find some-one else to do the thankless task.

Another mum set up a macmillan coffee morning at her place that the school advertised. It ended up being a phoenix trading event. I was pissed off, but she was a sweetheart and probably hadn't thought the whole thing through fully. The school was discreetly notified, and that was the last we heard of it. Don't be angry at the poor mums who have bought into the idea without thinking it through properly. Be angry at Phoenix Trading, which seems to do everything it can to encourage its distributors to act this way.

Check her trader's profile on the Phoenix website... I know someone who does Phoenix and regularly holds coffee/cards mornings with the mums from schools - however the school fund is one of her nominated charities and so some of her proceeds go back to the school. If this was the case then at least there's a sensible explanation as to why she'd think it would be reasonable to send her catalogues the way she did. Having said that the lady I know doesn't mailshot people unsolicited but uses word of mouth/chats to other mums at the school gates etc instead.

Not really sure, this wouldn't bother me at all. I think you are over reacting to be honest. If you make a big deal over it by moaning to the other mums I think YABU. If you just hand her the catalogue back and say that you are not really interested and please do not post anymore YANBU. Can't really believe you care enough about this to post. Do you dislike the woman that much?

It's dodgy she has your details.

Legally, you are not even supposed to have the names of the other kids in your DCs class as a list (even for xmas cards/parties)

Data Protection Act and all that.

It's a flipping cheek.

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 14/02/2011 10:58

I honestly can't believe how much people over think things.

Spinkly - it is not dodgy. Lots of schools have 'Class Reps' who have a list of all the parents names & details - you can opt out if you want to.

She's just trying to make some money, like a lot of other people out there - what she has done is no different than the Pizza Man sticking a leaflet through your door - the only slight difference is that it was personally addressed - so what?

pinkmoomin · 14/02/2011 11:13

I agree with 2babyblues. This wouldn't bother me in the least, and I'm just astounded at some of the over reactions. I certainly wouldn't report her, and you never know you might need a favour from her one day.
