I was in a shop recently waiting to be served and the woman at the counter in front of me was blocking the shop assistant's access to behind the counter. She smiled to the shop assistant as she let her past and said "My bad!". I think I visibly cringed.

I hate "hubby". It makes me want to punch people.

I say "good times", but only when it is anything but. As in, "What am I doing? Oh, DS just vomited Tylenol-pink chunks all over the sofa and the dog has diarrhea and DH just said he'll be home late. Good times!"

"My bad" was popularized by Buffy, but it wasn't made up by Joss Whedon or anything; people'd been using it for years. "Suck it up" is from "suck in a big breath and get on with it," basically. I say it, as well as awesome, kid, and most things Americans say :)

But Americans don't say "turn that frown around"!

auntyfash · 30/01/2011 03:58

Not read all of thread cos it's very very long, but I hate Aunty Flo with a vengeance! It's a period for fucks sake!

thelibster · 30/01/2011 04:43

googoomama, ' "Miss, I'm done". No, you're finished.' Sorry, sorry, sorry but... "you have finished (unless you have now ceased to exist).

Guilty of so many of these, especially:

my bad
chillax
good times
epic fail
me likey (but only in silly voice to daughter)

Personally I love to observe language evolving and those who don't are at liberty to tell me to, "get thee hence". Grin

Heroine · 30/01/2011 10:37

well there is a weird one in my area .. people saying 'wah!' for no aparrent reason eg i misheard a bloke in the street and said 'what' he just went 'wah' and i hear it said a lot... it confuses me

Feeb1 · 30/01/2011 10:56

That's just weird!

Love random. Hate words that are combination words like chillax.

Also a general dislike of using text speak for anything other than text or instant messaging.

princessofpersians · 30/01/2011 11:26

...hugs...at the end of a sentence/text etc. Horrible!

northernrock · 30/01/2011 11:42

I sooo would/wouldn't

It's all good

Methinks

Safe

Sick

Back in the Day

Aaaaarrgghh!!

Although I quite like using Man-up (ironically you understand) and Epic fail is nice for it's geeky overtones.

UnquietDad · 30/01/2011 11:58

I have an aversion to "Oh my days" as well. It sounds oddly old-fashioned and prissy.

MyBrilliantCareer · 30/01/2011 14:35

ROFL and judgey pants Wink

UnquietDad · 30/01/2011 14:42

I'm wondering whether to go over to the feminist board and asking if they think "Man up" should be replaced with "Person up".

northernrock · 30/01/2011 19:04

Really UQD? Not Woman-Up?

googoomama · 30/01/2011 20:34

Libster - how embarrassing - wrong auxiliary verb. Ironic, as I absolutely hate "She's went home" and "I've rang him" !

gordyslovesheep · 30/01/2011 20:37

probably been done (too lazy to look)

but grown women refering to their works PC as a 'Puter' in a tiny baby voice - makes me actually want to vomit on my shoes

thefirstMrsDeVere · 30/01/2011 20:45

Re my last post about meaningless drivel.

Just watch QVC or the Ideal Home Channel for five minutes for a prime example of talking bollocks. Honestly the way those people can fill air time with utter rubbish is an art.

I think they use every expression loathed on this thread apart from the street slang. Even that cant be far off.

CheerfulYank · 30/01/2011 21:42

"Nut up or shut up!" I say it to DH sometimes as I know he loathes it, as well as "prolly." Ghastly!

darksideofthemooncup · 30/01/2011 22:46

my mother, who is nearly 70 has started saying 'you're joking me?' when you tell her something she finds hard to believe. I don't know where she has got this from but it sets my teeth on edge every single time. Bless her Grin

Rainbowbubbles · 04/02/2011 09:32

"My other half"....WTF? That one annoyes the shite out of me!
