To spend money I don't have on skin treatment

saffyronron · 26/01/2011 21:01

I've spent £450 on botox and collagen boosters and I've no money. I woke up in a sweat last night thinking about the money and my penance for being so bloody vain. I might be having an early mid life crisis. It could make me really happy though (I've not had it yet). Someone please take away my guilt.

Even if you had the money I'd think you were mad. A pre-midlife crisis?

Yes, YABVVVU. If you haven't got the cash then you can't have it. ffs

saffyronron · 26/01/2011 21:07

manic, I know you're right. My conscience is telling me it's so but I did it anyway. I can't sleep now and I'm scared to have the botox. Everyone will know I've had it - how am I going to explain my newly smoothed forehead and constant look of surprise?

I would say dont start it if you can't carry on having it. You will just feel worse about yourself if you can't maintain the treatment.

If you have a "special event" happening and you can spare the money at the time, do it, but knowing you will feel shit when it wears off and you can't then do it again.

Is like travelling first class. The next time you get on a plan and have to turn right instead of left, a little bit of your soul will die Grin

If you've already paid, have the treatment (or is there a cooling off? Why payment before the treatment?) rather than lose the money. And enjoy it while it lasts.

Or sacrifice something else and put the money aside each month so you can have it twice a year.

Failing that, I suggest you find some "inspirational" books that have pictures and general waffle about growing old gracefully or find a celebrity role-model that looks a bit like you but that is looking great DESPITE their age (though its hard to know these days who is having stuff done and what pictures have been airbrushed) - perhaps even better to find someone in real life that looks great for their age with nothing done and just admire them and be inspired by them.

gordyslovesheep · 26/01/2011 21:13

or just look at close up picture of the frozen faced coffin dodgers who HAVE has botox and fillers - you couldn;t pay me to look that plastic!

GandTiceandaslice · 26/01/2011 21:13

If you can't afford something then you can't have it.
Weather that be shoes or botox.
If you decide to go ahead please look at picture of Joan Rivers. Wink

TattyDevine · 26/01/2011 21:14

Dont be scared to get it done. You will not look permenantly surprised, otherwise nobody would have it done. At £450 you should be getting a reasonable job too. People dont tend to notice "newly smoothed forheads". They might think you look fresh or well slept but unless they have had it themselves, they wont be looking out for telltale signs.

I have Botox and my husband doesn't even know I have it done.

PickleSarnie · 26/01/2011 21:15

Doesn't botox block sweat glands? At least it will stop you waking up in a sweat worrying in that case.

TattyDevine · 26/01/2011 21:16

Haha Pickle. The place they inject for wrinkles is not the same place the sweat gets produced, sadly.

gordyslovesheep · 26/01/2011 21:17

jordan without make up - tell me that's worth £450 - honestly!

TattyDevine · 26/01/2011 21:17

She's had more sunbeds than I care to think about though Gordy.

Sassybeast · 26/01/2011 21:19

So if you don't have the money , how are you paying for it ?

Honeybee79 · 26/01/2011 21:20

Agree with TattyDevine - don't go there unless you can afford to continue maintaining it or it will make you miserable.

Personally, it stresses me out to pay for stuff that isn't strictly necessary when I can't afford it, but then I'm anal about money. Cancel, cancel, cancel.

manicbmc · 26/01/2011 21:20

Don't do it woman! Grin

Just look at a pic of Kylie and tell yourself no.

gordyslovesheep · 26/01/2011 21:20

Oh I know tatty but it's the hard lines in her face - all those fillers - awfully aging in an ironic way

I don;t think it's worth getting into debt for at all

saffyronron · 26/01/2011 21:21

Tatty, thanks for your words of support :) I didn't have it done because the nurse wasn't available when I went in for my consultation. I've always thought grow old gracefully but noticed my skin was getting blotchy and sagging a bit and lines getting deeper. I eat reasonably well, exercise and try to be happy with myself but I don't think I'll manage the grow old gracefully bit. Loads of people are getting botox now. I do feel really vain and guilty about it. I could afford to have it a couple of times of year (if I budget well). I definitely don't like feeling so vain and do worry I'll end up with a face that resembles Shock

saffyronron · 26/01/2011 21:24

Don't you think people like Kylie just have too much and that's why they look plastic? Surely if you only have it a couple of times it's ok? I agree with people about the money side of things though. Maybe I should sell all my shoes to pay for it.

OP posts:
gordyslovesheep · 26/01/2011 21:25

Jordan has perm facial damage - that's one of the risks :)

TattyDevine · 26/01/2011 21:26

Definitely not.

Same with any beauty treatment you can't "maintain" but that needs maintenance - highlights, etc...if you can make it part of your regime, fine, but if you can't carry on with it, dont start it.

Jordan does look scary. One thing leads to another too. Plumping up your lips like that means you look funny then without your eyelashes to "balance" them out. Chin fillers need cheeks to balance them. Too much in the forehead gives that vulcan brow thing too which is plain scary on anyone (including the previously lovely Kylie)

Also, it wont stop other ageing things. Wont stop your neck looking chooky. Wont stop your jawline sagging. Wont stop your hair going grey. Wont stop your tits going south.

BUT if you rely too much on Botox and the like you might then find yourself noticing these other points instead, if you see what I mean? So whether you have Botox or not, you need to be "okay" with the idea of ageing regardless.

Its okay to have a bit of a mid-life crisis too, and botox is cheaper than a fast car or a divorce. Even so, dont go into debt for it if you can help it!

saffyronron · 26/01/2011 21:29

Jowls on their way and tits already south! Already got nice big lips so no need for a pout trout. I'll give it a go and hope I don't end up like Jordon.

manicbmc · 26/01/2011 21:30

Not cheaper than a divorce. I will be doing my own next year and it'll cost less than £500. I've saved more than that already by leaving the husband Grin

TattyDevine · 26/01/2011 21:33

You wont end up looking as bad as Jordan. It costs a lot more than £450 to look that cheap.

mamatomany · 26/01/2011 21:34

Enjoy, I keep trying to pluck the courage up to have it done.
Can I ask though if your husband doesn't even know you've had it done is it not that effective then ? I was hoping to come out looking 25 again.

saffyronron · 26/01/2011 21:35

You are going to look like Joan Rivers. What's wrong with growing old gracefully.

I have had bags since I was 24. My answer to that is to wear glasses and not contact lenses.

I have threadveins on my cheeks hate them, but make up covers them.

I have a naturally creasing forehead but it is expressive, I wouldn't be me without the imperfections, besides Im good looking enough to wear it.

Do you think your need to have these things done is more deep seated than just vanity?
