Am I being naive? Why would you post something and then change your mind?

It's called WINE Grin!

germum · 23/01/2011 17:40

oh yes - i remember it well BC.

Seriously though - you can get caught up in debate and give away too much personal information, or say something ill-considered or inflammatory which you then regret afterwards. MN don't generally delete posts without a valid reason.

germum · 23/01/2011 17:43

oh ok - i think i understand. But some of them are withdrawn witout any signs of an underlying debate and at 10am ( hope no one is pissed then! Grin)

I always assume it's because they've said something too personal or identifying, and then they regret it.

You could, I suppose, go onto a popular thread post nonsense every 6 posts or so and then get them removed. It could add a certain air of mystery... people who get to the thread later would be left wondering what on earth you said. Grin

I have withdrawn posts when I've realised I've given to much personal info about someone else,

I have withdrawn posts when I've given too much information about myself

oxocube · 23/01/2011 17:54

When you realise too late that you have replied to someone you know in real life.

Fifidedeal · 23/01/2011 17:54

What is a troll?

sfxmum · 23/01/2011 17:56

I have asked for a couple to be withdrawn when I have used someone's real name, it can happen

SimplyTes · 23/01/2011 17:57

I have withdrawn a post - I has just learnt of DH infidelity and OW has history with one of my family members - I completely and utterly lost the plot and gave details which would have hurt other family if they had put 2 and 2 together - it wouldn't have been difficult Sad

I withdrew all my posts on a thread once in a fit of pique. I can't believe MNHQ even let me. They must have cried laughing at what a precious twat I was being.

Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 17:59

I have never withdrawn a post yet

AnnieLobeseder · 23/01/2011 18:00

I've withdrawn two posts, once when I outed someone's namechange - I was too impressed with my own detective work to consider she'd namechanged for a reason Blush and once when I tried to sell something on the wrong board.

donkeyderby · 23/01/2011 18:02

I wanted to withdraw a post I thread I started today because it was upsetting me. Stupid posting in AIBU and expecting people to hold back on forthright opinions!

germum · 23/01/2011 20:03

I didn't realise people gave so much personal information away that may lead to them being recognised. It's interesting really how the internet has changed the way people talk or write because they are anonymous.

I had a post removed the other day because I'd name changed, forgot that I'd name changed for the thread and went back to post on it later from "threads I'm on" and then realised too late.

pooka · 23/01/2011 20:18

I was dying to know what happened to a thread I commented on the week before last - but without a pc last weekend. Logged on as soon as I could but all traces gone.

I was genuinely concerned about the health issue involved (man with constant erection for days. OP was a bit joking about it and then got rather huffy when everyone was saying could have serious repercussions).

Do wonder whether a reason was given in that instance for why the entire thread was pulled - am assuming was on the request of the OP. But I don't know whhhyyyy.
