reading so many threads and see so many one line very rude answers ... why as adults cant we have a debate and get our opinions out there without name calling swearingand down right rude? is it because your brave behind a pc screen or are you like that in RL? honestly some replies are awful.

It's what intellectually-deficient people do when they can't foram a cogent argument.

Shame but better they have an outlet here than out hitting someone in RL.

ZZZenAgain · 22/01/2011 12:37

I find most posters polite enough for me really

Yes. Of course that's why.

Keep telling yourself that.

I suspect that if one person says 'oh do fuck off' they may be incapable of contracting a sensible argument.

When about a dozen people say ' oh do fuck off you 'twat''' the sensible person should consider the possibility that they are indeed a twat and ergo, should fuck off

Constructing.

Auto correct is really annoying. I keep posting ferlinghetti .Confused

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 22/01/2011 13:19

In teh aforementioned thread I was indeed incapable of constructing a coherent argument.

Becuase someone wanted the boys dead!

I don't think you can extrapolate capability from that example; at best attachment level only

Tee2072 · 22/01/2011 13:30

I am a very intelligent, well spoken and outspoken person. (Also modest.)

I have never posted anything to anyone on MN that I wouldn't say to their face.

The only time I don't tell the truth of something, is when my mouth isn't open. Which means you aren't worth my time or energy to reply to.

If you can't handle the truth, stay off the internet.

babypickles · 22/01/2011 13:39

BTW sometimes there is a definate requirement to tell someone to fuck right off. sometime there are just no other words that will do.

If its in context its fine IMO.

KalokiMallow · 22/01/2011 13:52

"Some posters (not suggesting op btw) believe that you can be completely vile but as long as you avoid profanity then you have the moral high ground.
I think that is total rubbish"

I've seen that a lot on here recently. :( And yes, I will respond with "fuck off" because with people like that there is no point in saying anything more.

pascoe28 · 23/01/2011 08:30

I agree "fuck off" does have a certain delicious directness about it. But its use should be minimal - "less is more" etc - and quite a few posters (mostly left-wing) use it waaaayyyy too often, in my view...because they refuse to debate certain subjects due to their being off-limits, for them.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 23/01/2011 10:04

You cannot force anyone to debate a topic and if they can't it probably means they have some personal attachment that scares them- so my example of eugenics, maybe axing TC's will cause them to be homeless, they or their loved ones are facing redundancy....

debate os for those who choose to get involved and a suportive forum needs to be aware that real people have real lives and all that entails.
