road by parking outside my own house.
New neighbour insists on parking his van half on half off the footpath outside his house on double yellow lines his house is across and one house down from me, my side of the road no lines, also he has an empty drive.
I have just arrived home to find him parked again, I am to bloody tired to find somewhere else to park, unload DC and shopping and walk home that I have parked outside my own drive [3 cars in drive] but this means that the front of my car is almost parallel with his van bumper, bikes, motor bike, smart car and pedestrians will fit but not anything else.
DP and Dad are saying I should move my car.
Tell me they are wrong and I am not a grump cow being unreasonable,
{I have keys ready and DC keeping an eye out to check if I need to shift the car for someone}

he's wrong yes,but he was there first, and you should only park without causing an obstruction

go knock on his door and tell him he needs to move as police wouldnt know who was first if its reported....or ring and report?

sorry, while I understand your feelings it is unreasonable to cause this kind of problem for others who have no connection with it. Why don't you go and politely have a chat with the van owner? Also, can you not reverse a few feet so at least cars can get through? You'll only end up with a dented wing or damaged mirror anyway. I have spent nearly 4 hours on the M25 today in two separate traffic jams caused by accidents followed by 1/2 hr of town driving made longer by innumerous idiots driving / parking badly. Please don't deliberately do it.

canyou · 21/01/2011 19:02

3 cars are all belong to people in the house and I park across the gate then, I have told DP to go tell neighbour to shift his van as he is on double yellow lines.
Nope not even another car will get up or down tbh. I would park else where but that would mean a 5 min walk at 4.30 am as I am at work tomorrow at 5 am.
Shit I should really move it in case he is gone out/ drinking Sad Angry

go knock now then...then you can relax!

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 21/01/2011 19:06

Well - whilst I can see your point and understand your frustration (completely and totally!!!) you have also parked illegally and two wrongs don't make a right.

You have options -

Park elsewhere
Go and talk to him (depends if he's big & scary looking!!)
Ring local (and I stress LOCAL) police station (move your own car first)
Move your own car and leave a note of his telling him if you see it parked there again you will be calling the police as it's parked illegally - however, if he starts parking where you have just parked there isn't anything you can do about it.

canyou · 21/01/2011 19:07

Waiting, DP is gone out to tell them move it/put it in drive otherwise I will need to go up to next road to park ring police to report a van on double yellow lines
Imarriedafrog I would not leave it like that overnight or if I was not able to keep an eye out.
just tired cranky and pissed off Blush and want to park the car with out walking miles.

Why can't he park his van on his drive?!! That's what they are for, after all.

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 21/01/2011 19:10

x-posted, sorry.

If DH will go and talk to him I'd go with that option. He has a clear driveway, it would be interesting to see why he hasn't parked on there, unless like yours, their driveway will be full of other vehicles later on. Which is no excuse for parking illegally but makes it a bit more understandable.

canyou · 21/01/2011 19:15

Kitty the car fumes would kill his wife's potted plants if he parks in the drive so it stays empty even their DC are not allowed to play in their own garden.
Chipping rule in my house is first 3 home park in the drive, last person home across the drive, all keys left hanging in the kitchen and first person out the next morning check and move cars if necessary.
He will not move so Dp is moving mine and has promised to walk me to car in the morning [I will wait and see not sure that will actually happen]

YABU. You're stopping emergency vehicles.
You shouldn't have 4 cars.

Lindax · 21/01/2011 19:19

if van doesnt move are the other 3 cars in the drive your family?

it you have the shopping, dc, and early rise could someone else park 5 mins away so you can park in drive and dont need to walk at 4:30am?

canyou · 21/01/2011 19:22

Imarriedafrog, the others are company cars x2 and a disability car so the consensus is my banger car should be parked away from the security of the house as it would be from their point of view the best one to be damaged/robbed from the creepy car park Hmm
I wish DP had not gone over and just rang the local station again to report it.
I am a right bitch tonight Blush

Dosen't double yellow lines mean definately no parking? I would report him seeing as he dosen't want to move it when politely asked!

Or have i read that wrong??

fuzzypicklehead · 21/01/2011 19:25

Move, but report him now and every time you see him do it. Soon his pot plants will seem less important than the fines he has to pay.

Leave it and go to bed........and why should she not have 4 cars??

canyou · 21/01/2011 19:28

Idobelieve in my rules of the road book it meant no parking but the neighbour is reading from a different one I think.
BodyofEeyore DP and Dad have work cars and mother in law has a disability car and I have no transport links to work so we all need cars My Mum has left her car and my Dad's vintage car at their house which is being gutted after being flooded recently so it could have been 5 cars

stewmaker · 21/01/2011 19:33

report him, definitely

GreenEyesandHam · 21/01/2011 19:35

If I asked nicely and he didn't move it, I'd have rung and reported it there and then (or at least pretended to, no doubt I'd have been put on hold for five mins, which kind of spoils the overall 'fuck you' effect)

stewmaker · 21/01/2011 19:37

if he has double yellows they are there for a reason ie the road is not wide enough to park both sides on.

Other thing you can do is to make sure you park on the road outside your house once he has gone to work. That way HE is causing an obstruction.

Sorry, in a right grump Smile

stewmaker · 21/01/2011 19:37

...when he comes back obviously
