road by parking outside my own house.
New neighbour insists on parking his van half on half off the footpath outside his house on double yellow lines his house is across and one house down from me, my side of the road no lines, also he has an empty drive.
I have just arrived home to find him parked again, I am to bloody tired to find somewhere else to park, unload DC and shopping and walk home that I have parked outside my own drive [3 cars in drive] but this means that the front of my car is almost parallel with his van bumper, bikes, motor bike, smart car and pedestrians will fit but not anything else.
DP and Dad are saying I should move my car.
Tell me they are wrong and I am not a grump cow being unreasonable,
{I have keys ready and DC keeping an eye out to check if I need to shift the car for someone}

I am off to put the stations number on speed dial on my mobile while waiting
They are not answering and I am in a major bitchy mode, tired cranky and in need of food
they had better answer soon Angry

No you are being reasonable Stew, we are on an incline I want to leave off his brakes and watch the van roll down the hill.
I seriously need to get this murderous irrational and unreasonable PMT under control Blush
Anyway my car is moved to 2 roads away and a dark lonely yucky car park Sad

two wrongs dont make a right blah blah ... but i would feel exactly same as you. not only is he parked on double yellow lines but i hate people parking half on kerb and restricting (or completely blocking if no dropped kerbs)safe passageway for wheelchair users
i have been know to knock on doors and point this out!!

Tiredmumno1 · 21/01/2011 19:58

Sky breaking news - homebase has run outta pot plants due to a spate of murderous car fumes

Grin

Quick someone tell van mans wife Grin

canyou · 21/01/2011 20:02

Lol Tiredmummno1 DP was very serious when he reported back the excuse for the parking situation, All those poor plants cut down in their prime by car fumes, it has of course nothing to do with the -6 temps we have at the moment.

OP posts:
Tiredmumno1 · 21/01/2011 20:07

That has to be the daftest reason ever

Some people are right wallies

londonmackem · 21/01/2011 20:10

Just ring your local council they will send out an out of hours traffic warden and he will get a ticket and hopefully not do it again.
You need to move your car though as two wrongs don't make a right!

canyou · 21/01/2011 20:13

It is ok london my car has been moved and DP eventually got through to police so they know, we will wait to see if they ever show.

OP posts:
Plumm · 21/01/2011 20:15

He shouldn't be parking on double lines - report him.

Tiredmumno1 · 21/01/2011 20:17

Let us know what happens

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 21/01/2011 22:34

Because it will kill the pot plants??

Move the fuckers! It's a driveway not a sodding garden centre! But yes, having the local on speed dial and calling every single time should make his tell his wife to move the damn plants!

Oh and DP - use your elbows in the morning - make this his problem as well - you're far more likely to get him calling the station to report it if it's impacting on him directly Grin

PMT? Are you sure it's not Inlaws-living-us-tension?

Myleetlepony · 21/01/2011 22:45

Just be ready. When you get home tomorrow his van will be parked outside your house, as long as he doesn't block your drive he'd be fine.

canyou · 21/01/2011 23:58

Myleetlepony, he can't park in front of my house with out causing an obstruction as I have a treble gate so it is the whole width of the garden Grin but his next door neighbour [directly across from us uses half the space and half of my next door neighbours, all very complicated but we are all considerate when parking]
Lol Chipping it might be Parents and Mother in law Tension, oh well as TTC is off the cards for a while [his Mum and my Dad in the house is affecting DPHmm ] I might ask for the pill again. Oh I will just take the duvet with me when I get upWink
The van is still there, it is must be a cold busy night. And Dad has just said that even without my car there a fire tender would not get down the road so my plan is to ask my Brothers friend who is one of our retained [part time firemen] to spin down and check the road next time they are training, It is a council matter then and might wake us all up a bit,[PS fire tenders do drive up roads some times to check access when there are parking issues, I only found that out tonight]

TheSkiingGardener · 22/01/2011 00:22

I think the fire engine route is definitely the way to go. We live on a narrow road and inconsiderate parking is a nightmare. Fortunately there is a retired fireman here, who goes ballistic if he sees a fire engine can't get round and calls his old station. A fire engine causing a rumpus gets cars moved pretty quick.

Good luck.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 22/01/2011 00:40

why shouldn't OP have four cars? Confused

nannyl · 22/01/2011 09:23

YABU

your selfish actions could stop an ambulence / fire-engine reaching their destination and as a result one of your neighbours could die...

OK the van shouldnt park on double yellow lines but thats for a traffic warden to enforce, NOT YOU

Any person with a disabled badge can legally park there anyway, as can anyone loading / un-loading....

Move your car, or buy a house with a bigger drive if thats what you need.

babypickles · 22/01/2011 09:26

Move your car and then let his tyres down?? wink

GwendolineMaryLacey · 22/01/2011 09:56

PMSL @ buy a bigger house. aha! The easy answer to so many problems!

PatPending · 22/01/2011 09:58

I think I've heard it all now ........... car fumes killing pot plants! Well I never!

Seriously though, it doesn't sound pleasant having to park in some creepy dark car park.
I wouldn't feel very safe doing that either ..... not with my overactive imagination.

The fire engine idea sounds great by the way .... wish they'd do that up our local high street which has some truly ridiculous "traffic calming" islands all over the place. Fine in theory, but when you add in selfish parking by idiots selfish people it can become very tricky.

canyou · 22/01/2011 10:20

Herbietea Grin Good plan but we are not on the UK and Mil bought the car herself [with a grant] it is insured pretty much as yours or mine would be so if something happened then insurance premium will go up, also it is -6 here so I would prefer her not to negotiate the ice and frost, here disability badge owners are pretty much bound by the same parking laws as everyone else so she would get a fine or towed for parking on the yellow lines.
Nannyl even with my car gone only the emergency service ie the police and not the essential service ie the ambulance or fire brigade can get down as all cars park on one side and as they are parked above and below my house with his car on double yellow lines on the wrong side there is still not the manoeuvring space but yes 2 wrongs don't make a right. I did move my car after unloading, having a row with DP and speaking to the van owner and police, to a car park which is a 10 min walk away at 4,30 am and pay cash as it is a pay and display car park.
I don't need to move house as 1] it is a temporary situation and 2] 3 cars are parked in the drive 1 car across the drop kerb where no one else can park anyway,
Babypickles hopefully he will not be there when I get home at 5 tonight and I can park when he does come back and park, the firemen are training after 7 so they will drive down the road to check will the engine fit if he is there Grin

OP posts:
canyou · 22/01/2011 10:33

Gwen a bigger house would mean more room for mess for me to tidy up so no a house move be on the cards also would probably not give me more parking space if people are so inconsiderate to park on yellow lines so you are right it would create more problems then solve them Grin
Pat diesel fumes are very bad for plants I checked online last night Blush but at least I know why all my plants died Grin.
I think that is my coffee break over Sad I had better go and do some work again and justify paying me for another few hrs Wink

OP posts:
ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 22/01/2011 15:57

Canyou - I have no doubt that car fumes aren't great for some plants - however a) We have parking out here (public parking) and all manner of plants survive it, including roses & b) she could just move the plants - it's not like a bloody brick wall is it - daft cow.

saintknickerless · 22/01/2011 16:07

If your neighbour is parking illegally you need to sort that out separately. The answer isn't to block the road so emergency vehicles can't get through. YABVU
