decided to ttc

just phoned gp to try and get swine flu jab.

they won't give it to me until im pg

so i have to wait until theres a baby inside then have the jab.

don't really fancy being injected withthat once theres a baby inside

what do you think?

what should i do next?

should i try to go to the health authortity or whatever they are called, who do you go to if you don't agree with your gp?

You could pay for it privately in a chemist.

When stocks are low, you can't really blame them for giving it to someone who is not yet in a risk group.

alicet · 21/01/2011 16:51

It is celarly safe in pregancny or it wouldn't be offered. You may take months if not years to conceive. YABU

TakeItOnTheChins · 21/01/2011 16:51

YABU IMO.

If they injected all the TTC women they'd have even less vaccine!

GypsyMoth · 21/01/2011 16:51

yabu!!!

BooBooGlass · 21/01/2011 16:52

Agree with curlymama, and there is no guarantee you will get pg anyway, not to be harsh. They can't offer it to people who may end up pg in the near future, or people ttc, there is a limit on how many they have and you are not at risk.

compo · 21/01/2011 16:52

Yabu
stop worrying!

mutznutz · 21/01/2011 16:52

Get it in a chemist. They cant dish it out to everyone who claims to be trying for a baby.

alicet · 21/01/2011 16:53

Oh and I was going to get it at work this week (too disorganised to get it before - I work in a hospital) and was advised by a GP friend that given that it takes 10 days to be effective and it is on the decline now such that not thought to be a major public health concern within the next couple fo weeks that it wouldn't really be worth it anyway

HedgeSparrow · 21/01/2011 16:54

They do only have enough for at risk groups though.

Anyone could say they were "about" to ttc so they have to control it somehow!

It is perfectly safe though, hence giving it to pregnant women in the first place.

As Curly says you could pay for it in a chemist - think it is about £20 so worth the peace of mind if you are worried.

nannyl · 21/01/2011 16:54

YANBU

i know EXACTLY how you feel

i went to my GP with the same request BEFORE i planned to get pg. (Oct 2010)
was told, sorry NOT elgibale (free on NHS) until pg.... but CAN pay about a tenner and get it in a big pharmacy

explained to dr that in my teens id suffered with asthma (which wasnt on notes as changed drs twice since)...
GP then (after appt) found my original notes (as opposed to the stuff that they selected that they thought was relevant) and realised as id had asthma i WAS eligable

DR wrote to me and i had it free on NHS

Am now pg and am just so relived i havent had the jab while pg... cause no matter what they say i dont trust having it while pg either!

thefurryone · 21/01/2011 16:54

YABU you may not get pregnant until after the flu season ends, if everyone who was just thinking about getting pregnant had it then there probably wouldn't be enough left for those who actually are pregnant. Besides it is perfectly safe to have the jab once you are pregnant.

As curlymama said if you feel that strongly about it pay to get it at the chemist.

carriedababi · 21/01/2011 16:56

oh yes i don't mind paying at all.

i'll ring my local one right now

tuggy · 21/01/2011 16:58

YABVU! and also YAB very PFB

PheasantPlucker · 21/01/2011 17:00

YABU.
You are not pregnant. You are therefore not in the 'risk' category for a free jab.

carriedababi · 21/01/2011 17:01

they don't do it...

i'll try boots in town now

OP posts:
saffy85 · 21/01/2011 17:02

YABU incase you hadn't noticed there's a shortage of vaccine. They wont give it to anyone who isn't "at risk", not even under 5's, why on earth do you think you should get it because you might or might not get pregnant at some point in the near future? Confused if it means that much to you go to Boots and pay a tenner or whatever.

I got mine the other week (now 19 weeks PG) no harm done to me or baby. unfortunately for me I came down with Swine flu 3 days later (the jab doesn't become effective for up to 2 weeks after you have it). So it did fuck all anyway!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/01/2011 17:04

I'm about to ring up and cancel mine which was booked for next Friday. I was pg, now I'm not pg and therefore no longer qualify. Maybe I should keep my gob shut and get the vaccine just in case eh? I'm bond to get pg again at some point.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/01/2011 17:04

bound

LilRedWG · 21/01/2011 17:07

YABU to expect the NHS to provide it free. I know of at least one MNer who can't get it from the GP for their asthmatic child as the health authority has run out.

Gwendoline - sorry to hear of your loss. :(

carriedababi · 21/01/2011 17:11

i've already said i don't mind paying, just need to find somewhere to go get it

gwendoline, sorry to hear that

so at what point in pg are you suppose to have it?
after 12 weeks or something?

OP posts:
GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/01/2011 17:13

Sorry, that wasn't very fair of me to stick that in there. Tescos and Boots were doing them, don't know how much stock they'd have left though now.

activate · 21/01/2011 17:15

yes YABU

carriedababi · 21/01/2011 17:21

sorry to shout but,

I DO NOT MIND PAYING!!

boots only seem to be offering seasonal flu jabs not swine flu, and mk boots are ot answering phone.

ok try tescos now

OP posts:
GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/01/2011 17:22

I thought the seasonal flu jabs included swine flu?
