How often are you taking your dc to the dr to be told its teething?

coatgate · 21/01/2011 11:27

£50! To see the Doctor! See, we might all whinge and moan about the UK, but really!

mutznutz · 21/01/2011 11:28

Why don't you take your son to visit your Doc instead of calling him/her out for reasons that 9 times out of 10 they aren't needed?

scuzy · 21/01/2011 11:29

oh at least 5 times where everything was ok. i know it was peace of mind but cant take the chance when he is prone to tonsilitis! and then 35 for a follow up if you come back in with same ailment few days later.

OP posts:
bellastella · 21/01/2011 11:29

Have you checked that you don't qualify for a medical card? Presuming you have though...

scuzy · 21/01/2011 11:30

mutz i have NEVER done a call out. this IS taking him to the doc

OP posts:
Sirzy · 21/01/2011 11:30

I agree it should be free BUT surely after the first few times you were able to realise it was teething?

mutznutz · 21/01/2011 11:30

Oh sorry OP..I thought it was a call out fee for the Doc to come to your home Blush

In that case...yes it's ridiculous.

scuzy · 21/01/2011 11:31

oh i have bella but i dont qulaify i earn 50 cent over the threshold!

OP posts:
scuzy · 21/01/2011 11:33

sirzy believe me i dont rush to the doc the minute he is sick but when he has a temp and you know your child isunwell ... surely i cant not take him. i have not gone myself as i cant afford it at times.

mums should be able to take in their little one and get theirs ears and throats looked at and if all ok fine. if not then see a doc.

£50.00 a go? I don't believe that....

When my DP was working in Ireland and we had to take the kid to the Dr's once we didn't pay ( I am certain no insurance involved). Perscriptions are paid for and I recall cheaper than in England.

No one would ever go at £50.00 they'd just go to hospital causing mayhem and huge waits.

drivingmisscrazy · 21/01/2011 11:34

?50 or thereabouts for a GP consultation in Ireland, unless you are really very poor, in which case it will be free. It's really rough on parents - it can really mount up, especially if you end up with a prescription as well.

OP you do realise that you can claim tax back on medical expenses, don't you. I think this is a better deal than getting it back on health insurance (if you can afford it!) as they have an excess.

It means that DP and I almost never go to the GP unless it's with DD. I find it bizarre, having grown up in the UK, that it's not free for kids up to 16. From what I hear about England from people who work in the NHS, a small fee for those who are able to pay might not be such a bad idea...

scuzy · 21/01/2011 11:34

lol pancake why would i lie! its ?50 to see my gp. once was ?70 cos myself and my son were seen together. why would i lie? and i pay ?120 a month for prescritions for me and my partner for anti depressants. its scandalous!

midnightexpress · 21/01/2011 11:35

Sorry Scuzy, X-posted. Didn't realise you are in Ireland. YANBU. Cripes. That's terrible.

ivykaty44 · 21/01/2011 11:35

Doctors don't come to visit you at home in England, you have to take your dc to see the gp. If you have a sick dc in the night and you call out of hours then you have to take them out in the car - and if you have other dc that may mena you have to take them with you to see a doctor either at a clinci address or possibly a unti attached to a&e

scuzy · 21/01/2011 11:35

OMG is it free for kids under 16 in UK??? i'm moving there! ffs!
