Dyed my hair fuschia pink lastnight and i bloody love it!! Im a bit of a rock/punk chick so it suits me down to the ground - but i am also 25 with 3 children!!

Gasps of horror at the school gates this morning taking DD in - and then my mother tells me its 'inappropriate and embarassing when i have children'

So is it inappropriate for a mother to have bright pink hair or shall i tell my mother to naff off!!??

Im 25, I normaly have long bright henna red hair and live in my purple doc martin boots. My other half has long hair and a beard we get odd looks and comments all the time but its just funny now.
I can't wait till tomorrow cus I'm having my hair cut short for the first time and DP beard is going purple.. can't wait to see the looks on the other parents face at the gates not to mention my mum.
(My dad will hit the roof Grin )

A friend who I never got a chance to thank once pointed out to me that 'it is only hair and you only do each day once'

Gah!

UABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU

to post this!

My new years resolution was not to colour my hair AT ALL this year, and now you lot are making it too BLOODY HARD.

Especially as I have just resigned, so now can have my hair whatever colour I want as I no longer work in finance with clients.

Looking at all those links of hair dye means that I'll have to crack my debit card out and buy some dye... Thanks for the links ladies!

I'm a trainee social worker so my hair can't be too bright, but a bit unnatural isn't disallowed Grin

Provided you haven't upset your employer, you are entitled to wear whatever colour hair you like. Or shoes. Or underpants. Enjoy.

It makes no difference to your parenting abilities. I grew up with a mother who was constantly dying her hair various colours - once took my dad a week to notice she had dyed it blue, and he simply asked her in a puzzled way if she had changed her glasses. Grin

In many ways though she was v traditional in her parenting - Startrite shoes, home cooked meals, early to bed. Parents evening at school was interesting. Made teenage years v easy - could wear whatever I liked without any problem. Though God help me if I didn't write thank you letters immediately after Christmas or have immaculate table manners!

And of course, I ended up marrying someone who is lovely, was a Scout leader and has never dyed his hair in his life. My mother was extremely disappointed at what she regarded as his conventionality Hmm

So all I'd say is don't make the opposite mistake of judging negatively on someone's appearance because they are strait-laced...Wink

I had pink hair for about 2 years when my boy was younger, I loved it! Wish it was still pink but don't think my work would go for it :(

RantyMcRantpants · 17/01/2011 19:16

I am heading like a juggernaut towards 50 and love my hair. I have had red, purple, blue, turquoise, teal and at the moment I have blonde with pink slices through it. My kids love their Mum and her hair, lots of people do make comment but they usually are good. My Mum however hates it and is always commenting on how I should act my age and has this cat bums mouth when she sees me.

goondiwindi · 17/01/2011 19:24

I would love pink hair but I am a grandma of 59 and haven't got the guts.

Jellykat · 17/01/2011 19:25

Ooo yes,Brilliant!

I had bright pink up until 4 years ago(47 now),I bleached and dyed my hair every colour, for 23 years using 'crazy colour' which was then changed to 'Directions'..Little tip- the cooler the water you wash it with, the longer the brightness of colour lasts.

Don't ever do blue tho' it drains the colour out of your face and can make you look dead without a lot of make-up! Smile

LollipopViolet · 17/01/2011 19:31

Mines purple, I'm 21 with no kids though. That said, I am the only one in my uni class of 40 to have any kind of vibrant hair now. Want to try pink next but am worried about it reacting with the purple.

CognitiveDissident · 17/01/2011 20:44

FUCHSIA!

Nobody on this thread has spelled it correctly

I was going to let it all pass, be the bigger man and walk away from the thread...

BUT then 'fuschia' and other variants started to crop up on a gardening thread.I couldn't help myself.

BTW, OP;you are not being unreasonable.I'm 41 and had bright pink dreads all winter. They're currently black and white, so I look like the result of a forced union between Cruella Deville and a skunk :)

TastesLikePanda · 17/01/2011 20:55

When I got my most recent job my hair was purple (like cadburys wraper purle) but my fringe and the hair from the nape of my neck were what I liked to call 'nuclear pink'

It made me stand out!

Now it's greying brown but with a streak in it that was blue, then I overdyed it pink so it looks dip-dyed. This was a happy accident!

mummylin2495 · 17/01/2011 23:25

goondiwindi we are not that far from the same age,my eldest grandchild is 20yrs old !! the other two are 16 and 14yrs and they all love my colours that i have .

Whomever it was who posted the link to the Rock Collection website, I say thank you!

I went online last night and bought myself some fabulous clothes Grin

ja9 · 18/01/2011 09:30

a member of our staff in our local Tesco has fushia pink hair just now. DD was most upset with me yesterday when i didn't choose to go to her checkout. In a very loud (read 'like a foghorn') voice she shouted, "but i wanted the pink hair one mummy". Blush Her hair is quite fabulous!
