Dyed my hair fuschia pink lastnight and i bloody love it!! Im a bit of a rock/punk chick so it suits me down to the ground - but i am also 25 with 3 children!!

Gasps of horror at the school gates this morning taking DD in - and then my mother tells me its 'inappropriate and embarassing when i have children'

So is it inappropriate for a mother to have bright pink hair or shall i tell my mother to naff off!!??

but when it washed out last time it went manky orangey

how can I stop that?

are the directions dyes better than any others?

mutznutz · 17/01/2011 11:48

You actually heard gasps of horror? Could you really determine the difference between a gasp of horror and a gasp of surprise?

imustbemadasaboxoffrogs · 17/01/2011 11:56

My mother is 67.

She has had pink, purple and blue hair quite regularly.

My granny thinks all outfits bar twinset and pearls are unsuitable attire for young ladies. Yanbu!

spidookly · 17/01/2011 12:04

I love fuchsia pink hair.

YANBU

Maybe they were gasps of admiration?

latristessedurera · 17/01/2011 12:07

You've made me very Envy now. I've been thinking of dying my hair a bright colour but haven't yet as i'm not sure what colour would suit me. Think I might just go for it now.

As for the people gasping with horror when they saw you - their lives must be really boring if your hair colour gets them so worked up.

webwiz · 17/01/2011 12:10

DD1 has long bright pink hair and I'm amazed at how many people stare at her when we're out. She's 19 and a student so it doesn't exactly matter what colour it is but some people have asked me why I let her dye like thatHmm

spidookly · 17/01/2011 12:13

Why you "let" an adult dye her hair?

Jaysus.

People are weird.

But then presumably the staring is part of the reason for doing it - bright pink hair is attention grabbing and unusual.

It doesn't mean they disapprove.

People stare at 19 year olds because they are young and beautiful and full of life.

kellestar · 17/01/2011 12:21

YANBU my mum has always dyed her hair, normally brown. But she's never stopped me going for more unusual colours when i was in my teens and my hair has been every colour under the rainbow. My dad uses up the last of the dye, he loves to stand out, and we loved it as kids. Yes my Dad had a few weird comments, his mum is really snobby and gets annoyed with him. But generally people are quite accepting.

I can't wait to dye my hair, once I find some time with a 4 week old. I am going Pillar Box red.

I went Fuscia Pink after my A-Levels for almost a year and then got fed up with touching up the roots and keeping one colour.

At the start of my latest job my hair colour wasn't that wild, but when i got back from my honeymoon i went Violet and it really shocked them, in a good way. They don't have any rules about attire or style. My bosses face was a riot :) and so well worth it.

If your friends love it and your DP and DC's who cares what the rest of them think. You never know you might be setting off a trend :)

FromGirders · 17/01/2011 12:24

My mum is 59 and has fuschia pink hair. She loves it (always wanted to do it but her mum wouldn't let her) and it suits her, and it's better than going grey, or that cop-out grey blonde so many women do.
The only problem with it is that now I can't have pink hair!

spidookly · 17/01/2011 12:31

You can!

You can tell people it's genetic :o

rasta · 17/01/2011 12:37

YANBU. I had pink hair for years and years (Flamingo Pink Directions) and I bloody loved it. People used to smile at me all the time, it was such a euphoric feeling.

If you were part of DDs schooling I'd be very eager to be your mate Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 17/01/2011 12:53

Mummyto2Mand1B - those mums sound like boring all farts.

I want to dye my hair purple but DS keeps sayinh "noooooooooooooooo"!

mummylin2495 · 17/01/2011 12:54

Yanbu/I am a nan to three and last year i had pink/ purple in my hair.I loved it and my three grandkids think i am a cool nan ! [ pic on my profile]Now i have a blonde colour with bright red streaks. If you like it thats all that matters.

Chelster · 17/01/2011 12:56

I think pink hair is great, and it's bang on trend. If you like it, that's all that matters.

BecauseItoldYouSo · 17/01/2011 12:58

If you don't have to 'conform' for a particular job, then why not!

To many people have boring hair.

numptysmummy · 17/01/2011 13:06

Just the thread i needed to kick me up the arse and get my hair done! I was a deep purple for ages but everone round here has it now. Quite fancy going the red that whatserface on strictly had. My kids and dh love my hair being different colours and so do i - anyone else can sod off! Do all you bright dyers do it at home or go to the hairdressers? My dh use normally dyes it but i'm quite dark brown atm (just to get away from the purple) - how hard is it and would i need to pre lighten it?

numptysmummy · 17/01/2011 13:08

Ooooh,mummylin - your pink/purple hair looks fab!

MsKLo · 17/01/2011 13:08

People should always dress and have hair they like so stuff everyone else and good for you!

Porcelain · 17/01/2011 13:15

YANBU

Mine is turquoise and dark teal right now.

However, you will get a longer lasting result with Special effects or Manic Panic Amplified Grin

Porcelain · 17/01/2011 13:18

Shops offline atm, but check the gallery www.hairdyegallery.co.uk/

mummylin2495 · 17/01/2011 13:20

i go to the hairdresser,i would not be able to do the different colours at home. The purple does tend to come out quite quickly but even when it fades its a lovely shade.Im not sure how they actually do it ,i know it takes ages and i have to have all the foils in.I am due to have mine done in a couple of weeks ready for a wedding in Finland! But i will be having the red again, which tends to stay in longer for some reason. The pink and purple colour is from the range of "crazy clours"I had loads of people asking me where i had it done and saying how they loved the colours.

Takeresponsibility · 17/01/2011 13:25

In a uniformed job and have to have "natural" coloured hair. When I am retired I shall have pink hair...and wear purple with a red hat, and as you are the same age as my son, I guess I am the same age as your mother so there's no excuse for her to be all cat's bum face at your hair.

shoshe · 17/01/2011 13:53

God mine was purple last year and I am in my 50's (or is that allowed cos I am now OLD enough to have purple hair ) Grin

The3Bears · 17/01/2011 13:57

I would not be brave enough to do this, But wouldnt judge, your hair do what you like :)
