why is that a stupid argument? everybody reads your title the same way they read the other title

which means that you have used the same word

'the c-word' is probably a more appropriate way of saying it without saying it

my argument was not stupid i read 'cunt' as did most other people who read it, you were objecting to the use of the word, it didn't work as effectively you used it yourself

merrywidow · 16/01/2011 16:47

I still think thats a stupid argument and deviates from the point being made

dont like any variation of c*-totally demeaning to women and absolutely unnecessary. If you regard your genitalia as an obscenity then you are a little lacking in dignity and self respect imho.
I know I'm a sad old bag.....

MrsRhettButler · 16/01/2011 16:50

i obviously did give a damn catsmamma

i do see your point merrywidow but i honestly do believe that making people think the word is just as bad as saying it outright

GORGEOUSX · 16/01/2011 16:54

YANBU - I had never even heard this word until now. It's completely unnecessary. I don't understand in which context one would use it.

SwearyMary · 16/01/2011 16:58

"The cunting kettle is broken"
Thats how I would use it, for example.

atswimtwolengths · 16/01/2011 17:01

I wonder whether the people who use it on here actually use it when talking to real life friends or family.

I don't have any friends who would use it. We all swear at times, both when we're angry or to make a good joke better, but this one word is one that none of us uses.

It's just such an ugly and offensive word. I can't see why anyone would want to reclaim it; also I can't see why anyone would think it would do any good reclaiming it. When homosexuals reclaimed 'queer', it was at a time when society was becoming more enlightened. I can't see that us all calling each other cunts will make misogynistic men change their views - they will be just happy to have them confirmed.

GORGEOUSX · 16/01/2011 17:02

Gosh, it's seems a very strange way of verbalising a broken kettle. Couldn't you just say 'the kettle's broken' ? Or if you had particular animosity to the kettle, couldn't you just say 'the damn kettle's broken' ?

bupcakesandcunting · 16/01/2011 17:03

I think everyone is overthinking this one. I like it just because it's got such chutzpah. I don't think that the feminist babble is necessary here, but then I think that it's not necessary in most instances Grin

GlynistheMenace · 16/01/2011 17:09

i like a good 'cunt'

and 'fuck'

so there [pokes out tongue]

SwearyMary · 16/01/2011 17:15

I use cunt in RL, if I am prepared to type cunt or any swear (look at my name) then I shall have the balls to speak said swear. I like the bad swears. A cunt of a day is so much more obvious to the extend of its cuntiness. A not very nice day, is well nice.

Grin
GORGEOUSX · 16/01/2011 17:24

Personally I think 'a dreadful day' sums it up just as well.

katiestar · 16/01/2011 17:27

Quite a strong swear word IMO.I don't know anyone who uses it IRL.

GlynistheMenace · 16/01/2011 17:33

I will admit I don't use 'cunt' very often in RL, or 'fuck' for that matter, but I have done.

I more often use the word 'cunt' for comedy effect..and it works, almost everytime!

Flisspaps · 16/01/2011 17:35

I use it IRL regularly.

For those of you who haven't seem the Vagina Monologues, the piece about reclaiming the word cunt is [ here] read by Alanis Morrisette.

Nanny0gg · 16/01/2011 18:18

How do you use it in real life 'regularly'?
Do you swear all the time, or just have lots of bad days?

cobbledtogether · 16/01/2011 18:25

"I find it odd that women who wish to live within an equal society would chose to reclaim and perptuate the use of such a word"

Why? There is a clear recent history of groups reclaiming words that were meant to be derogatory - e.g. Gay and Fag being reclaimed by Gay men.

and as for the word that has two Gs an I an N and e and an R - well, I belive that only a ginger can call another ginger a ginger.

:)

merrywidow · 16/01/2011 18:27

babyheave so we should all refer to each other as ......

merrywidow · 16/01/2011 18:28

And I mean us ladies of course

OP posts:
SwearyMary · 16/01/2011 18:44

I use swears as I please. I last used the word a few days ago when I was given some bad news.

lochnessmumster · 16/01/2011 18:57

All this fuss over one tiny word is what gives it it's power.
I really enjoy using it, I do reserve it for particularly irritating people or situations, however i find the use of "cuntyballs" works well for a more playful effect. Cuntyballs also addresses the gender imbalance some cunts people object to with the simple cunt.
