to think this is the worst set of birthday presents ever

Its my brothers 21st today and he got

Mum: Calender (he's already got one)

Dad: Air freshener (thought it would be useful for his new flat )

Sister: An acre of the Moon (wtf?)

Sister: Male concealer (he has never make up in his life)

Uncle and Aunt: Socks

Uncle and Aunt: Recipe Book

Me: Aftershave and a couple of tickets for his football team

AIBU to think my family really should have put more effort/thought into his presents

thats shit for any birthday.. but for a 21st thats reallllllly shit.. unless they are doing it for a laugh and have something better lined up for him too...

I think the air freshner is the worst. I'd be sad at that as a normal present, let alone for a special birthday.

Sorry, but the moon thing is shit too.

£25 wasted frankly. £25 worth of present, wasted on a bit of paper that says you own a peice of the moon. I could print something off on the computer for tuppence.

I got a planter with some plants in for my 21st from my parents.

...and I was quite happy with that. My family isn't into birthdays in a big way. Far worse was my student flatmates being horrified on my behalf.

He's not particulary hard to buy for. It was quite amusing watching him opening them and pretending to be happy/greatful

It is hard to muster the motivation to shop for presents after Christnas, but some of those sound like they scrabbled around the house for something to give him at the last min.

Tyler, a giant bar of toblerone is great! I can see it would be a mild disappointment if it was the only gift from a multi millionaire relation. But air freshener - from anyone? For any purpose? But for a gift?

Those presents are dreadful! I was pissed off because got a gold bracelet for my 21st(many moons ago).Know I sound like an ungrateful moo but I dont wear gold but an air freshener! really?. Your brother must be a nice guy if he managed to fake enthusiasm for those gifts.At least you got him something decent.

I remember on my 18th, getting a smallish present from my parents (can't remember what now) with the promise "we'll get you something special on your 21st".

21st arrives, small present "of course we got you something special for your 18th"

Did you? what was it?

I didn't really mind though, we're not big into gifts in my family.

Does your brother make much effort when he's buying for family members?

That he's a smelly, spotty bad time keeper, who needs to get into healthy eating and perhaps broaden his career outlook to include property on the moon in his portfolio?

No I get on really well with him. I found it funny partly because my family thought they'd done well and bought him good things and partly because I knew how much of an act he was having to put on.

mitochondria- He does make an effort for family members, he's young and doesn't have a lot of money but he does buy good presents.
