Its my brothers 21st today and he got

Mum: Calender (he's already got one)

Dad: Air freshener (thought it would be useful for his new flat Hmm )

Sister: An acre of the Moon (wtf?)

Sister: Male concealer (he has never make up in his life)

Uncle and Aunt: Socks

Uncle and Aunt: Recipe Book

Me: Aftershave and a couple of tickets for his football team

AIBU to think my family really should have put more effort/thought into his presents

TotemPole
I can't understand why people buy me jewellery at all. I haven't worn anything for about 15 years. They must notice

They probably think.. poor totem she hasn't got any jewellery to wear!

opolle · 16/01/2011 08:26

They are shockingly bad, I feel really sorry for him and I've never met him. If it were me I think I'd be having words with them.

belgo · 16/01/2011 08:28

Are you sure his parents are giving him money?

zazzabeans · 16/01/2011 08:37

your poor brother Sad
fwiw dh bought me an acre of the moon 2 christmases ago Hmm and is still sitting upstairs stashed in my junk draw! wtf he was thinking, i will never know! he thought it was a cool present!

Newgolddream · 16/01/2011 08:40

AgentZigzag - not sure but wasnt it something to do with "key to the door" kind of thing??

Re OP, sorry for your brothers totally crap presents, they are rubbish birthday presents full stop, never mind for a 21st, whether it should be treated as special or not. Theres poor present buying - and theres this, which takes it to a whole new level!

And its not about the money, even if they could not afford much there are things that dont costs a lot of money that Im sure would have meant more, so I think for me its not so much what the presents , as awful as they are, are but more the lack of any thought and effort tbh, particularly your parents, I can just about see your Aunt and Uncle.

Are they really really maybe not joke presents and somethin better is coming??

vixel · 16/01/2011 14:13

YANBU what were they thinking?

ChunkyBrewster · 16/01/2011 14:22

Aww bless him for being polite. My parents give really really shit presents; my brother got a jar of maple syrup one year. I got a CD that came FREE in the Sunday newspaper and then for my 18th, a bag.. that came from a conference Mum went to for her work. It was a conference for librarians so was a black satchel with "THe Association for Librarians and Piano Tuners Annual Conference 1998" (or words to that effect) on the side.

My brothers and I just laugh these days and compete to see who gets the most dire gift throughout the year.

Your present sounds awesome and really thoughtful. I am sure it made up for all the rest.
