To be completely unable to manage my toddlers hair?

WimpleOfTheBallet · 14/01/2011 10:41

I need hair help badly. She's 2 and curly...not the curliest but pretty tight ringlets...and I can't cope with it.

Im THIS far from chopping it...and I hate people who do that to tiny kids.

Evry time I try to brush it...use a tangle teaze...she FREAKS and I mean kicking, punching, scratching and biting.

Last time I got my crown knocked out as she threw herself backwards and hit me in the mouth.

I have tried

Brushing it wet
Brushing it dry
Brusing it with conditoner combed through
Kids De-tangler
Grown ups serum
Different brushes includng an afro

I cant BEAR it...it needs doing now...and I'm going to get beaten up. Sad

Should I wrap her in a towel like you do with a cat? Or is that awful? The thing is that because she throws herself round and gets hysterical she bumps her knees, head and hurts her throat yelling...it's so bad.

HELP ME!

thanks wimple

duchesse · 14/01/2011 14:54

Sounds like she was the one in need of help... Shame her opinion are still on your file. Is there a supervisor of social workers or something who can be appealed to?

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 14/01/2011 15:24

not sure tbh

sinat54 · 14/01/2011 16:28

I dont brush my curly kids hair everyday, I try and do DD hair in various styles of braids/small bunches with plaits and leave them in for a few days.
She did go through stage of running away/crying/covering her head when trying to do it. I continued anyway!
I love my tangle teaser and use a conditioner called US Kids.

Dunoon · 14/01/2011 17:10

Right have been inspired by this thread to make an appointment for DD2 to have her "Amelie" cut on Monday!

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 14/01/2011 17:11

good for you dunoon Smile

Dunoon · 14/01/2011 17:18

Yeah just got to check really carefully for the dreaded lice before we go now. Aaargh

duchesse · 14/01/2011 17:19

What is an Amelie cut?

Dunoon · 14/01/2011 17:38

Amelie poulain from the film

Mummy2Bookie · 14/01/2011 18:10

That haircut is too short for a little girl IMHO

duchesse · 14/01/2011 18:40

Which cut, the amelie one or the Debbie Bliss book one? And why do you think it's "too short"? Not having a go, just genuinely intrigued.

HettyAmaretti · 14/01/2011 18:52

Good on you Dunoon. No way is it too short, after all little girls have been having this length of bob since the 30s. I'm sure it'll look great. Depending on her age the very short fringe could look a bit FASHION IYSWIM.

DD's bob is the same length but with a longer (but still short) fringe, more like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.nl/imgres?imgurl=www.salonmj.com/image-files/little-girl-bob.jpg&imgrefurl=www.salonmj.com/featured-styles-kids-cut-girls-bob.html&usg=__LaD8ZKx6ZetkXGt4sbU4UPPCTEo=&h=322&w=322&sz=93&hl=nl&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=b6UQqCeS8qyrMM:&tbnh=132&tbnw=132&ei=iZkwTdT4OoqVOvjk6awK&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dlittle%2Bgirl%2Bshort%2Bbob%26hl%3Dnl%26sa%3DG%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D588%26gbv%3D2%26tbs%3Disch:1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=873&vpy=61&dur=188&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=114&ty=133&oei=PJkwTZ_5FYToOeT8vawK&esq=14&page=1&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this) . She gets a lot of compliments on it and it's so, so easy to look after.

HettyAmaretti · 14/01/2011 19:03

Dunoon - Exactly the same cut from the 1930's here,'tis an absolute classic and for good reasons]].

Wimple, if you're still reading, this is very much like my friend has her daughter's curly hair cut. I asked her and she also only brushes when wet and used hefty conditioner and leave in conditioner.

tomhardyismydh · 14/01/2011 19:07

its lovely my dd had a lovely thick inverted bob with a very short fringe she is insisting on growing it out Sad its now a shoulder lenghth messy trustle and she keeps getting mistaken for a boy, which she adores.

fluffles · 14/01/2011 19:15

are you sure it needs brushed?

i have curly hair and i run my fingers through when i condition it but i never actually brush or comb it.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 14/01/2011 19:17

This is my daughter, I use the curly girl method or whatever its called. So no shampoo and conditioner only and then a couple of times a week.

I comb it when wet and rarely when dry but only using detangle spray.

Also when I am combing it I bribe her with a biscuit. She is 3!! Grin

McGinger · 14/01/2011 19:19

My wee girl has very curly hair too.

When dry and curly it sits just above her shoulders, when wet and straight its down to the bottom of her shoulder blades.

I brush it every morning, with a tangle teezer.

I spray it with water first (I found conditioning sprays too heavy, they made her hair look greasy) then brush it with the MAGIC BRUSH (thats what she calls it!) then clip in and spray with water again, give it a wee shoogle through and scrunch, and done!

I get her to stand and brush her teeth while I do her hair, she is distracted then as she loves brushing her teeth and she loves to play with the taps and water.

She is just about to turn 3 BTW.

whatkatydidathome · 14/01/2011 19:24

dds hair is the same. I kept it short (about an inch - at one point a number 8) until she was old enough to want it long when I explained that if she wanted long hair then she had to put up with having it combed. Now I brush it through with a hard plactic brush (sort of cross between a brush and a wide toothed comb) once a week (with lots of conditioner on it, wet after washing).

Why are you so bothered about having it long now? Does she want it long?

saffy85 · 14/01/2011 19:32

If she wont let you brush it, get it cut. It'll grow back and when it does she might be more willing to sit and have it brushed and styled.

My DD has masses of thick long, blonde hair which she used to hate having brushed at this age. A year later and she'll happily sit and have it brushed and plaited- so long as she has a distraction like the telly. Dunno what changed her mind I guess it was a phase.

Mummy2Bookie · 14/01/2011 20:11

Meaning think the Amelie cut is too short. The Debbie bliss cute is cute but too short for my dd,

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 15/01/2011 09:26

mischievious, moi? Grin
