to report someone fiddling the admissions system

A friend of mine sold their house and rented a house in our street.

They have sent in their admissions form, the deadline was last week.

They are moving out of their rental this week, into a much cheaper rental on the other side of town.

She says she is having her post redirected so she doesn't miss the schools offer.

It's an oversubscribed school and even some children who attend the pre-school don't get in if they are out of catchment.

I'm not normally the whistle blowing type but this has really annoyed me.

I think if she's gone so far as to sell her house and rent somewhere in-catchment, then she's shown a pretty strong commitment to getting into that school - I definitely wouldn't report her. The dubious ones are the ones who (you hear) use someone else's address to get in - your friend(?) seems to have gone to a lot of trouble.

i agree with what *stillfeel" said and others who say she hasn't broken the law or fiddled the system. I really don't see that the school could act on this info as she has done everything correctly.

Is it because she has purposely done this to have the right address for the application that bothers you? What if the landlord had been a dubious character and for "reaons" booted them out of their tenancy early? As a result they moved to a cheaper house. Would that have been more acceptable?

She has done everything possible to try and secure a place at a good school but i'm assuming (have no experience of the system) that there is still no guarantee that she'll get it?

OP - your friend needs to check the smallprint of the rules where you are - we are obliged to tell the admissions department if we move AFTER we have submitted our choices. I think they will also take a dim view of her not telling them her new address, if shes found out for that.
